13-inches Humongous reflector HID host found (final reading of about 3.8M cd)

It is well centered from what i see and yes i did wear gloves to move it around in and out as well as side to side. In fact there is a adapter disc so that it fits H3, and i removed it and it becomes H7 (bigger hole). So i tried H7 bulbs which the arc gap protrudes further into the reflector, no go. So slowly pulled it out and any part of the beam does not get circular. I could do this with the SM5200 and Amondotech 3152.

I am pretty well versed in focussing because i had to do that perfectly with the SM5200 and Amondotech 3152 to get max throw from them too, but they just needed a little work for focus to be optimised.

Funny thing is that the adapter does not look wrapped or anything at all.

Ok, i screwed everything down and it seems that once the edge of the reflector is firmly secured down, the hotspot is much tighter. Seems like the reflector is so huge that it warps if not supported at the edge.

I am getting like 2.4 million cd. I need to go for 50m measurements to get accurate stuff, the light sensor/voltage meter is probably getting overloaded.....and i need the beam to spread out. It is so tight that the center peak beam which gives you the PBCP is slightly half the diameter of the hotspot of a Solarforce Masterpiece Pro-1, you can imagine the intensity. We are talking about 9000 chamber lumens vs 250 emitter lumens, into something smaller than the hotspot of the 250 emitter lumens. Something like that.

Eg, That is 36 times the light. 36 x 55k cd = 1980k cd.

yes it seems the 13" reflector seems to have some warping compared to the two sanmaks. what is the reflector material of the 13 incher? sanmaks reflector looks great compared to the two bigger lights.

I'm glad you kept at it and got it focused a little better. I'm sure you are happy with it now. I know what it's like to think "man, i bet I can get that just a little bit better" and then spend two hours each night with it.

The reflector is definitely aluminum. With such a big reflector and glass surface in front, heat is actually not an issue. The true reflector front aperture is 280mm, or 11.06 inches.

Sanmak SM5200/CS-220HID is 6.5 inches front aperture. It is this slight wrapping of the reflector that gets you rings. The good thing is that it is invisible in reality, because you are not going to be using this below 50 metres. heh....

Shipping to PH is the same as to SG, you can get the 55W SM5200 for usd88 shipped. :) It's actually enough, and definitely more cost effectively than to change it out for a 100W.

I now measured 2.54 million cd at a longer distance of 12.4 metres. Previously 2.4 mil was at 8.17 metres. Really need to do 50m soon.

Played with the x-y axis a little coz the bulb / adapter was a little off-centered. Candlepower jumped to 2.8 million now and that's at 8 metres (previously 2.4 mil only). I think it should surpass 3 mil at the 50metres range. So officially, we are comfortably past Gen II Maxabeam. (remember, my meter is the under-reading DX meter, you can probably add 15% to it if you are comparing to quite a few figures at CPF)

The glass cuts 8.0%, unfortuantely.

First off, Solarforce Masterpiece Pro-1, with 2 x 18350 inside. (max output cell config) This also sort of serves as a control shot, because the Masterpiece Pro-1 cannot really do 450m.....just that perhaps the manufacturers would like you to believe that.

2100 what 'pocketable' light would you recommend me for a thrower? I'm really happy with my DRY but for throw it really does suck. That DBS really looks nice but i think it's really worhtless for everything else but throw as it's like a laser. :) I'm considering the ff stl v6 but it doesn't fit in a pocket... the DBS 2 14350 (?) does but i dont have a charger nor the batteries for it and it's probably a pure thrower

Don't think it can be so high. Most probably 26k to a max of 30k for the budget P60 stuff that we use (enourmous output heat sag). Think need the EZ900 die and over 1.2 amps, definitely not easy for the budget P60s. If we use the Dereelight EZ900 1.5A pill then it'd push the price way up with the Ahorton and you might as well get the DBS aspheric. :D

It's not easy or cheap to go for small and throwy, that is why DEFT line can exist (even the DEFT HO couldn't be sustained).

Just extreme output/throw is easier. If you can shell out the dough, 1 to 1.2k can get you close to a magical 100 million cd, shipped. :) (actually i saw $890 shipped to my country but that's a lower power and i can't find that deal again)

48mm head. It looks somewhat bright for the hotspot. It won't touch STL-V6/V2, but even the 2 x 18500 option does not fit a pocket.

But hold your horses, the DRY with Turbo actually gets 25k cd on my meter, and the CQG with 48mm head probably gets around the same ballpark relatively. (my meter under reads)

You might have to get the Sunwayman V60C. But i guess too expensive.

Do you have a C8/Keygos? The Fandyfire STL-V6 can use that tube as well as some others.

It's a cheap light, so you can afford to buy a charger as well as batteries. The Trustfire TR-001 is cool and pretty cheap, i have it, works well....just that it charges a bit slow. heh... but generally ok and terminates decently and consistently.

Got 1168 lux at 55 metres. 1168 x 55^2 = 3.5 million candlepower. On DX meter so you can factor in 10-20% additional as it under-reads (well documented). With 10% additional you get 3.8 million candlepower.

This is with the glass lens on, so you can add 8% if you decide to run without the lens. (I measured 8.09% cut with the glass lens)

I'll try to get a 2.18km shot, i IDed a building and it could hit it, but i did not have my cam/telephoto and tripod with me.

If you don't wanna use ESCROW (actually it's safer than PP in a certain way, because the seller is not paid until you authorise ESCROW to release it, so you have the bargaining chip for any full or partial refunds. Now PP could in some rare cases be unable to suck funds from the sellers account, highly unlikely but i thought i nearly suffered that for my Lightpipe 250W purchase, which was usd 530 and he had multiple orders)

I purchased from Guangzhou COSON, as they have the 12V to 24V version. This version works with voltages from 9.5V-30V as specified on the back. The advantage is that you get slightly more power output with 24V, ballast efficiency is higher as well. The ballast would be straining, and you can hear it, if the voltage drops below 12V loaded. This is useful if you want to use an external pack next time with 2 x SLAs in series. You will never know what comes up.... i feel that paying like 20-30 bucks more is better for flexibility.

You can see in the listing that it is taking 12.0V from a PSU and current is 8.3 amps. 99.6 watts of input power. I personally measured 98W from my SLA.

BTW if you want the most output, choose the 4300K bulb. 5000K bulb is ok if you want a pure white, definitely within 5% of the 4300K bulb.

You need to order a pair of 4300K H3 base bulb of 55W power. This would give you the smaller bulb with a shorter arc length of about 3-4mm. The 75 and 100W ones are 5-6mm, and this means less throw. However the 75/100W bulbs do give 9500-10000 bulb lumens, while the overdriven 55W can only get maybe 7000+ bulb lumens due to lowered efficiency. High powered HIDs & metal halides are very efficient relatively, more efficient than LEDs. The Philips bulbs are doing like 120 lumens per watt, and this is at the high end of the power curve, not like XM-L which reaches only about 60 lm per watt in real life in our flashlight app. (due to heat) You may notice that P60 XM-Ls often dig below 50lm/W.

The LED franternity thinks that HID is old-school and LED is overtook it esp with the XM-L. Sorry folks, in reality it's far from it. But on paper, XM-L looks good. :)

It's a big investment with all the bulbs/ballast and host. But i'd say bite the bullet if you are a throw junkie. It is WORTH IT. If you really want to get into the throw crowd and can accept the -ve of say big host and plastic construction, forget about LEDs.
