- The Fake-Cree LED Awareness Thread - The new "low" in Budget lights.

My 2 cents: is it quite possible that the vendor sold you that torch believing he got “genuine” UltraFire lights from his supplier and has no knowledge whatsoever to distinguish between a real Cree XM-L T6 and a similar looking LatticeBright T6 clone.
So he might have also been ripped off. Also note that if a china shop or Ebay only states “LED type: T6” and the word “cree” is not even mentionend you can be sure to get a LB clone, and it would probably not even be a false statement.

Same about Q5. If they do not mention the word “CREE” it is because it will not be “CREE”, it can be anything else

Well, to be honest, neither “T6” nor “Q5” are any type of leds anyway. If they were just a tad *cough* “smarter” they could deliberately slam a typo over the “Cree” name on the ads (“Cr33”, “Creee”, …), and so they could completely lawfully rip you off. “All sales final”, LOL! :D

Cheers ^:)

Hi, what about this one. Does it look like cree xm-l2? I know quality of picture is not the best.

Imgur

Quite the opposite, from experience. They mix together everything that claims to be the same, and send you whatever’s on top of the bin, no matter who actually provided it originally.

May be good. It has the core points in staggered rows and insertion pads are round, as CREE.

Well when i get it, ill take a better picture .But yes i agree with the things you point out was thinking the same just wanted to hear some other opinion.

  1. TT6 just arrived and at just a really fast look it appears to be a Cree. I have to go mow grass but after that and a shower I will dig deeper. I took a quick phone camera shot of the LED but loading it is proving to be a task lol.

I think I may have been lucky this time. I just got showered and still need to eat but from just looking at it through about a 20 power magnifier it looks like a real Cree XML, I will start opening it up soon and I will post what I find. One thing I have noticed already is it is most certainly in the range of 500 to 600 lumens which is what this vendor is actually stating where most double that... Back soon with something one way or another.

Here is the quick shot I took just after I got it... It is pretty crude....

Latticebright XM-L copy.

Here are 3 shots as good as I could get with just the phone camera. The more I look at it and the clone I got from eBay the more it looks like a Cree. I could only get the star out just enough to see there is nothing at all written on the back, digging deeper at my knowledge level would be bad...

Here are a couple of shots of the one I ordered from eBay that I know is a Latticebright, it is printed in the star.

Indeed confirmed Latticebright Cree-fake.

Yep XML T6 clone. Its a shame companies can get real Crees so cheap so why bother!

I have not seen this kind of emmiters (take a look at picture with reflector), may be XML2 clone.

Weird picture of that led, it may even be a render, not a real picture and be XM-L2 after all…

Well during re-assembly of the new sk98 that arrived today I snapped an O ring and nothing at all to fit. Headed out to Walmart, they are open all night and they gotta have assorted O rings... WRONG, after I explained what an O ring is and finally had to take out the light I had on me and actually show him what an O ring is, apparently that is the one thing they do not sell... Finally got back home and after looking though some other lights I found one that was probably a little better as it is just a tiny bit thicker.... So back to assembly and now the reflector will not thread. Part of that is my fault, the snap ring pliers I normally use are in my tool chest at work so I used a set that I am not as use to. It is set pretty decent now but I have to eventually get that replaced.

Best part was comparing it to the one I got from eBay that I know to be a Latticebright, seeing the difference is very simple even just zooming them both as far as they can and point them at the wall. Even my wife saw a huge difference. I will take a shot of that shortly and post it.

Here is the listings for where I purchased both.

This is the one I got today and so far to me looks the most like a real Cree UltraFire Cree XML T6 LED Zoomable Flashlight Torch Lamp 2 18650 KIT SK98 (Black)

And this is the one from eBay that I know is a Latticebright UltraFire 2200 Lumen CREE XM-L T6 LED Flashlight Torch Zoomable 18650 Charger

I will post the light difference in just a bit.

Okay I hope that this picture is a decent enough shot that you can see the difference. The light on the left is the one from eBay and for sure a Latticebright. The one on the right is the sk98 that arrived today.

It is obvious that one had a longer focus range, but I can handle that for the difference in just the light color alone. It is hard to see in the picture but the sk98 is a good deal brighter.

You judge... I would love to hear you thoughts.

Hi Terry White.

Check out this flashlight: UltraFire SK98 1*LED 3-Mode 600-Lumen Zooming LED Flashlight

Seems like the torch you got from Amazon, which you suspect has an onboard genuine XM-L.

That torch I ordered a couple years ago for a friend; heck, you can find my review of it on the page I linked (2014/04/15). It uses a genuine XM-L.

Well, glad to see you've woken up to the horrible reality of CrappiceBlight emitters: despicable colour rendering.

Cheers ^:)
