DEAL ENDED - DX XM-LT6 900-Lumen 5-Mode White LED Flashlight - Titanium Color (2x18650) - $29.99 (Normally $41.30)

I'm not the guy to ask on batteries but would guess any 18650 will do 2.5A.

My 18650 collection is pretty ghetto - all recovered from old laptop batteries. They're pretty tired, and unprotected. You might as well try the TF protected before buying something else though.

Here are the two lenses I know of that are close

Their lip is probably thicker than stock lens and the OD probably won't be perfect either.

To me, the ideal situation would be if the focal length was long enough to be slighly beyond the original lens so that I could mount the aspheric in something, like a piece of PVC, that I can slip onto the head and only use it when I want to - like a color filter would be used.

I wouldn't buy a driver until we see whats in it - but if you really wanted to be set ahead of time I'd go w/ 2 smaller diameter drivers in parallel instead of that sst-50 one i linked, that way you won't end up w/ something that won't fit...

would be great if what comes in it could just have some more chips stacked on for higher amperage...

IHaveJustPaidForOneFoy

And also I bought one of those drivers, I'm 90% sure that I can mod the output current of this driver

In case it is 5A as the title says (I really doubt it), i will mod it down to 4.2A.

If it comes at 4.0A I will not mod it, but if it is under 4.0A I'll mod it to 4.2A :P

Also, I currently have a spare XM-L U2 1A (my fav. tint!), so if it is too blueish... it will be an U2 1A @ 4.2A :D

judging from pictures alone, I think it will fit (the driver). but, i'm willing to wait. I'll have fun getting the new light, then i'll order the driver and a month later be thrilled with the light again :)

it seems the DX sst-90 and sst-50 drivers have some reviews that say the max current is less than stated, but maybe w/ the xm-l it will be higher than w/ sst

viffer750 claims the focal on the 66mm lens is 42mm - my guess is that is very close to stock lens. There's a thread on CPF where it was used in a DX showerhead light - i think - might have been the 59mm - search deft jr

i'm going to order both right now

That’s true, I have two DX’s SST-90 driver, and both came at 5.0A and 5.2A instead of 6500mA stated by DX; but with a little modding, you can get up to 11A (but never more than 28~29 Watts). On my TrustFire X6 with this driver I set it to 7.2A because this driver can’t handle more power output :frowning:

One more month and I'll see if this SST-50 driver fits this flashlight :)

sounds like we've got this covered!

Why do you guys have to put stuff up like this? This is a great buy and if I do it I will be in big trouble.

Already have a custom C-88 reserved with E1320 and a Sky Ray 818 on the way from Lightmalls but I have a weakness for all things titanium and $30 for this light is awesome . . .

cantlivelikethisFoy

looks like they are already sold out

S***, i missed this.

I won't pass up a silver/gun-metal light, esp at this price.

I have the OTR X5, but do note people have purchased PAlight 8011 copies and it is not the same. Minor nicks here and there and generally rough cuts. This looks like OTR X6 or Loongsun LX-9012.

The OTR X5 is something like 7.5/10, while a Fenix finishing is like 9/10. $45 shipped via DHL for the OTR X5, i can't complain. Also there is the driver thingy. Efficiency is one thing but PWM is another. OTR has 520Hz PWM IIRC, pretty good for budgetlights.

I know what you mean. I was just paying the bills and crunching some numbers, and I figured out that since my self-imposed flashlight-hiatus a few weeks back, I've spend the measly sum of $230 on flashlights and batteries. Granted, some of those are gifts, but that's still about $180 more than I had originally wanted to spend. Yikes!

I am cutting back on lights. Somewhat successful. Int-outdoors and CNQG are not coming out with much stuff right now.... Right now i am pretty entertained by my 3 mil lux @ 1m thrower.

Cree, pls do not release a new emitter. That'd be da bomb! (Everything reset and start all over again!)

sacrilege! xm-l is great but we need an emitter w/ lower angle, higher surface brightness than can be pushed to ~3A (and benefit from it)!

Damn it! I missed it! Oh well...I wasn't keen on the titanium finish on this one (prefer this one in black) but sure was a nice price. Can't wait to see how it turns out for those that grabbed one. :)

There are so many lights I want at Int-outdoors. About a dozen, in fact. A $1,000 gift card ought to do it.

I've been pretty good so, if anyone here happens to be my rich uncle, now would be the time to "come out."

Missed it ...

mine just arrived. I'm waiting on 3 or 4 orders placed well before I ordered this. it does have china post tag on it and I had to sign for it.

first impression - came in decent cardboard box marked d1, dry threads, weird burr in lanyard hole, silver color isn't bad but would look much better matte, draws 1.65A at tailcap on high from 2 old tired 18650s (recovered from laptop batteries).

lenses haven't arrived.

hole for driver is 22mm

stock lens is a hair under 56mm

sanded down DX 59mm aspheric to fit. plenty of rim left on it - the 66mm lens may fit w/o removing any of bulge (edit, later found it does not even come close).

focal length of 59mm is roughly 10mm longer than where it sits when bezel is screwed all the way down, but it is fairly focused (you can see emitter shape but its blurry). Unfortunately it reduces lux by ~25%...

color is fairly cool white w/ light purple fringe on hotspot, not bad, to my eye, at all...

edit: med and low are significantly more purple. I doubt i'll use any mode but Hi, but if I find that I do I'll probably swap emitter.

dthrckt how good is the anodizing compared to your other lights?

the best anodizing I own is on xtar d06 - this is no where near that. Not as hard as Xeno (although I have scratched red e03 to bare aluminum in a few spots) but it might actually be thicker.

I'd say on par w/ other budget type xxxfire but I think it would be slightly better than average if they had put a smoother finish on the metal first.

It seems like it was medium grit blasted before anodizing, and i think the added texture makes it easier to mar the finish - ie I can put a mark on it by scraping w/ the point of a utility knife (that does nothing to xtar) but it doesn't get to bare aluminum - you would have to apply firm pressure to do that.

I guess trying that on both shows lights how much I care about keeping a shelf queen vs using my gear

I'm quite satisfied for $30, and I haven't even gotten to try it at night yet.

I'm out of thermal grease but once that's added and I run it on some better cells I'll decide whether or not to mod. I'm betting others will get higher tailcap readings (my cells are terrible).

It might be worthy of a U2 bin, and some fatter leads (although they're thicker than any others I have).

I have no use for blinky modes, especially in a thrower, but I won't change that unless I find a replacement that is as powerful and fits w/o too much trouble (DX SSt-50 driver is on its way but is bigger and has blinky).

i'll review it (and about 5 other new lights) once I've sorted a replacement for my dunked camera...

it is finally almost dark here
