Convoy S2+ SMO

That is a nice little test setup you made ‘ZozzV6’…I like that.

Those are some interesting photos also. Thanks for posting.

Thanks Zozz. Whats your personal opinion on the differences between the two reflectors?

Very cool Zozz, thank you Sir.

Today I received one each SMO for the S2 and S2+
My SMO S2 has the smaller hole. Didn’t open the packs yet.
New FW 7135*8 drivers too.

I am unable to see pics 4, 5, 10 & 11

I got 2 of these in today as well. Quickly put one in one of my S2+’s with an XP-L HI. These rock, we are not talking C8… but a FET driven XP-L HI really throws for a small light! I get one large ring on the edge of the beam, but out side it will not be noticed!

These are a huge improvement and will make for an excellent option in you EDC if you want some throw!

Thanks Simon!

Thanks for the updates. I’d really like to know how it compares to the S2 SMO.

My S2 is a triple, can’t help with that comparison.

Ok, can’t do any pics in town tonight… but the S2+ with a FET driver, Hoop pill and XP-L Hi will light 90 foot tall tree tops at a block + away from my house! I am loving these reflectors.

Does mouseover still work? I do not have the tree icon and the normal and advanced editors do not seem to have the option for the second image???

Finally got to take a few pics this weekend.
Here we have a Convoy S2+ with an OP reflector and XM-L2 4C

And here we have the new SMO reflector in an S2+ with a 5A2 XPL-HI. Notice the nice strong hotspot? It did gain a ring on the edge of the spill, if you are wall hunting, but not really visible outside. I really like this new reflector!

I am also adding my Olight S1R with stock TIR and XM-L2 4C.

The SMO has tighter hotspot definietly. And not much corona as the OP. For indoor use I prefer the OP. But I don’t tried with XPL HI outdoor. Son I will get my Convoy M1 and want to compare with it.

I really like the looks of the SMO reflector in those pictures. It looks to have a far brighter hotspot and judging by the power line it seems to have better spill too.

How much of the beam profile do you think is related to the XPL-HI and how much to the SMO reflector, I’m guessing it’s a combination . Any chance you have beamshots of an XM-L2 with the SMO?

Roll a little upward. I did it. But if you want outdoor photos sorry

Thanks, I saw those. Yes, I’m interested in outdoor comparison photos.

I was a little surprised at the amount of spill it did produce, but that reflector is very shallow.

The only other S2+ that I have with an XM-L2 is only driven by 6 7135’s and currently has a 10 degree TIR, the one I used for these pics is my 18350 EDC with an OP reflector. I would expect a similar beam profile with a somewhat larger hotspot. If I get a chance 2 weekends from now, I will convert it and post a photo. I think I like the XM-L2 for in the house but for general use this one is a winner!

Wow the difference is huge! Makes me seriously consider trying to assemble one with XP-L HI like yours once the new firmware appears on the stock S2+. Carry a TIR and you also have a hotspot-free light for close-up work. Both smaller than a zoomie :D

I have now set up the XP-L Hi with an 18350 tube and dropped it into my EDC rotation along with the XM-L2 that was already an 18350 light. I think this is a great combo.

Hello!

Sorry if this is a bit off-topic but, now that this S2/S2+ topic is hot, I thought it could be a nice place to ask this question.

I am deeply overhauling a zoomie host which has about twice the surface area of an S2. Using a deeply modified version of this good ol' driver, I've decided to keep the maximum driving current at ≈4'2A with the addition of a couple of R033s to the sensing resistor stack, mainly because I'm shooting for a normal person to be able to operate the torch in medium mode without much discomfort.

Therefore, my question is as follows: Is it more or less comfortable to operate an S2/S2+ host in high with a 2'1A driver?

Thanks.

Cheers ^:)

One of my EDC S2+’s has a 6*7135 driver, so 2.1 amps. It gets warm, but will not burn you by any stretch. 2.1 amps puts out more than most would need for an EDC, but is there when you need it.

Thanks, but don’t worry if it’s not something you want to test for yourself. I’ll buy a SMO reflector and see how I like it.

I hate to take the lights apart, over and over… always a chance to break something. I really hate it when an EDC lets me down!

saw the S2+ SMO on banggood today, couple bucks.
