Screen recording help please?

Hi all,

Does anyone know how to get clear sharp text for a screen recording that will be viewed on a facebook size video? Mostly on phones I would imagine.

I am using OBS and it works fine as long as your viewing the recording in full screen, but no matter what I seem to change on the input/output etc by the time it gets squished down to the fart size movie they use on facebook the text looks horrible.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Not being a video person the only thing I can think of is to reduce the res of the video before throwing it into OBS.

Cheers David

Change your window size to your desired video size and record the window or window area instead of the entire screen. Or change your screen resolution.

I have used camstudio

Shoot it with your droid or iPhone. Set it on something that keeps it from wiggling, tap the ‘Go’ button & Bob’s yer uncle.

I use Camtasia Studio 8. It will allow you to produce the video at any format size you like. Generally, for recording screen text, you need to shoot / produce the video at the same format ratio. It will be clear then. You might even get it done with a little program called Snagit by the same folks. Hope this can help. TL

Edit… sorry, I forgot…. You can Google Techsmith. They write Camtasia & Snagit.

This was also one of my thoughts since camera tech is way beyond screen recording tech at the moment. The big hang up I’m getting here is recording the monitor this way puts wavy lines through the image. Almost like when you touch the screen with your finger. Havent quite figured out how to get rid of those yet.

My wife is a YouTuber and she recommends Screencast O Matic.

Those lines are the result of your monitor scanning. Before there was screen capture software I used to try and video the screen too…. I never made it work. The monitor refreshes at 60 times per second. Your eyes can’t see that but the camera can. The screen capture software of course eliminates those lines.

I haven’t tried taking a video of a screen in years…I would have figured that the newer monitors would have a better technology…but I guess not. Can you not just use a screen capture software as suggested?? You can perfectly capture all or any portion of the screen. TL

I have some coworkers who are big fans of Fastone Capture. I’ve never used it but it works well for them.

I have tried capturing only the top left 1/3rd or so of the window. This does help. It gets the text looking reasonable at a Youtube size replay, but Facebook is only about 70% that size and it gets grainy. I cant depend on full screen mode since 40+% of FB traffic is phone now.

As an alternative can you just upload it to youtube for viewing there, and post a hotlinked screencap on facebook instead of actual movie? This to avoid the facebook resizing.
