Review: ThruNite TN42 LED Searchlight

OP used Samsung INR18650-30Q, can’t go wrong with them or something like LG HG2…

Wow.

I know it’s an illusion, but in that first set of pictures, it really seems to be making the Moon shine brighter ….

Now THAT is throw…….

great Review again!

thanks for your work!
( i hope HKE stocks the NW soon :( )

Amazing even by the highest of amazing standards!

Do you know if you’d get constant-current regulation with the 18650s as opposed to the rechargeable battery pack from Thrunite?

Excellent review!

I don’t think this light can be further improved in anyway, it’s simply flawless even in the eyes of an modder. Maybe a small current bump, but the performance in stock form is just insane. Really want to get rid of my K70 now.

Good news……well I think it’s good news!

My TN42 has been dispatched……by Amazon!!

It appears Thrunite have used Amazon as a ‘dropship’….is this good or indeed…bad?

Cheers

Rob

Almost In Europe Thrunite send the flashlight by means of Amazon.

Look carefully at what you get from Amazon, make sure it’s what you thought you were getting
because they commingle inventory — trusting the label, no matter what the source, to be accurate — from all sources.
So the warehouse picks the next thing out of the bin for your order, regardless of who you think you’re actually buying it from.
That has let a lot of counterfeits be sold through there in the past few years and they’re getting a lot of attention about this practice.

:+1:

I´ve buyed in Thrunite Store.

When i claim thrunite that ship the flashlight fast to make a review in spanish flashlight forum, the Thrunite explain to me the they use the logistics of Amazon.

(Thrunite have a store in Amazon Europe).

Great!!!

How will I be able to verify if my purchase is genuine???

It’s probably arriving tomorrow!

Thanks for the heads up, I’ve recently bought another torch direct from thrunite, I was surprised when a package from amazon turned up, anyway it was the thrunite torch I ordered.
Now the same exact model I bought a while back didn’t come via amazon it was sent by thrunite.
Anyway the one from amazon was a bit of a let down, horrible tint and not quite the same quality as the first.
Was disappointed and just sort of put it to one side and thought o well I’ll just mod it one day.
But now after reading what you put and looking at the link, I’m wondering if it’s a clone/fake

F**king great!!

£150 I’ve paid!

EDIT:

Well mine arrived today………OH MY GOD it’s bright!!

Can’t determine if it’s genuine or not. I’ve emailed Thrunite to ask them if there’s anything I can do to determine it’s authenticity!! But fake or not it’s ridiculously bright.

I can’t wait for total darkness to arrive!

Glad you like it.

Does it have a serial number on it?? Thrunite should be able to verify it if it does.

I will have mine in a few weeks,TN42vn.

It does! I’ll await their response.

Oh and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed!

I agree, because mine is modded and will have a little more output than yours! Stock is still amazing.

With the new LED’s and several manufacturers pushing the lights like modders, the results are very good.

Totally awesome!
Way beyond my budget though…

Well,

I was happy with my newly acquired TN42, until I inspected it a bit further, the hotspot is quite mishapen, with a good sized ‘egg shaped’ belt of
corona around it. The AR lens is dirty both sides, and what appears to be metallic remnants from the reflector manufacturing process are on the reflector! One piece (when looking from the side of the beam) glows like a meteor entering earths atmosphere. it’s my first Thrunite purchase, which they assure me is geniune, and I’m somewhat upset.

So it’s gonna have to go back, Unless they send a new reflector, but I’m afraid that the LED may be defective!!!

I wait a lifetime for it to be delivered too.

Cheers

Wait a minute guys, I see some of you were talking about “genuine” and “fake” Thrunite - Do we really have a fake Thrunite, or a fake TN42 to be exact? I have been in this hobby for quite some time and as far as I know those “clone companies” (i.e. Ultrafire, Uranusfire…) rarely clone these premium lights for the cost and technical complexity reasons I guess, or at the very least they would clone them in the very obvious way, and the price would have obvious difference too. Not to mention that if they happen to clone these premium lights they will never, ever use the same packaging as the original one - again for the cost reason, because they are going to sell at the real “budget” price, right?

I mean if there is really a “clone” TN42 available (which is quite unlikely IMHO), and the price is 1/3 of the original price, then I would buy it in a heartbeat lol.

Why strobe is only 680lm?
