Simple cardboard box for the IYP365

Inside the box: light and a couple of spare o-rings.

Lumintop’s specs for the light:

  1. Utilizes High CRI Nichia 219BT LED or CREE XP-G2 (R5) LED with 50,000-hour lifetime

    CREE-Type: High: 200 lumens/35Minutes, Mid(Default): 40 lumens/25hours, Low: 3 Lumens/50 hours
    NICHIA-Type: High: 125 lumens/35Minutes, Mid(Default): 25 lumens/25 hours, Low: 1.5 Lumens/50 hours
  3. 3 modes: Mid-Low-High; Two ways to change modes: press the clicky switch or tighten/loose the head
  4. Runs on: 2 x AAA (NOT included) (10440 Not Recommend)
  5. Dimensions: Length: 5.04” (128mm); Head Diameter: 0.57” (14.5mm); Body Diameter: 0.49”(12.5mm); Weight: 0.81oz(23g) (excluding battery)

As you red, there are 2 version of the IYP365, one features a cool white XP-G2 emitter, and the other has a Warm Nichi 219 hicri. Obviously, I got the second one.




Well made and lubed threads. They are anodized, so you can physically lockout the light.

A very wide metallic clicky switch at the tailcap. It is stable enough to make the IYP tailstand. There is some geometrical pattern on the tailcap. The clip does rotate. The tailcap can also be unscrewed and the clip removed.

Also the switches are very different.

The IYP has a GITD ring under the glass.

UI
You can control the light as a clicky or a twisty.
Click (or twist) to turn the light on, click (or untwist) to turn the light off.
When the light is on, make a half press (or untwist and twist quickly) to change brightness (medium, low, high, medium… in loop).
The light has not memory mode. It always turns on at mid mode.

Output and runtime
Output and runtime have been tested using AmazonBasic AAA Nimh 800mAh.

The output at the high mode is consistent with the specs, at mid mode not.


Runtime at high mode does exceed the specification.

This is the warmest nichia 219 emitter I have seen on a light. I red somewhere 4000k, I believe is a bit lower. Lovely tint, and high CRI.

My thoughts
The light is well built.
The UI is similar to the one of the other penlights, but the IYP doesn’t have memory and always starts on medium mode.
The beam profile is similar to the one of the other penlights, a wide beam with wide spot, suitable for short distances.
Having a CW / WW + HICRI choice is always nice. The regulation is excellent at the tested level.
The IYP has a rather low streets price and I believe I recall seeing groupbuys with even lower price.
If you can dig the UI, I can’t find a big flaw on this light.
That’s another light I will use when wearing a suit.

Saw the review already at CPF. Thanks for the work Budda :wink: I got this light (Nichia as well) from Banggood for only 15 Dollars during their 10th anniversary thingy. It’s seriously a really lovely light; one that you’ll love to carry with you. 4000K is also a pleasant change from the regular 5000+ Kelvin. It’s good to know that output on turbo is constant and doesn’t plummet like some other (usually much higher output) lights. The silky finish of this light is also very pleasant…

Edit:

related to the much lower measured mid output, I tested the lux values of my Nichia version. The lux value for max output is set at 128 lumen, as stated by Lumintop and verified by you, and the output for mid and low are calculated linearly. The results are as follows:

High 128 lumen (reference)
Mid 9 lumen
Low 1.5 lumen

Although my mid of 9 lumens deviates a bit from your mid of 11 lumens, the low is spot on with your measurement. Overall, my measurements are in accordance with your measurements. Cheers.

I will be get this from Amazon. When I bought a similar light to this (sunwayman version that is nearly identical) from Gearbest, it never showed up and the order # & tracking # never could be tracked. $16 gone in the void.

I got a Lumintop IYP365 during a group buy this summer.

I loved mine when I first got it. Great tint on the Nichia. Nice external appearance, not at all “tactical” / pseudo-military.

However, the switch on mine quickly stopped working.

I’ve tried tightening it and untightening it. No joy.

At this point, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. It’s pretty frustrating.

I think I’ve read before about the switch issue. Mine sometimes doesn’t turn on, and I have to soft press to cycle/trigger activation. For the price I paid I have no problem with this whatsoever. It shouldn’t get worse of course not to spoil the fun, because it is a joy to own and use so far.

I also got two, the other one has a finicky switch that only works sometimes.

I got just one. I have to press the switch just right or else my light won’t turn on nor off. But I’ve been able to soft press to switch modes for the limited time that I played with this light.

I bought one a while back, and just ordered another from GearBest’s special offer (see their thread). I know I can’t use two 10440 cells, but what about one 10440 and one dummy cell? Has anyone tried that?

I really like the light, and have no problems with it starting in Medium all the time. So far I haven’t had any problems with the switch or anything else. I have turned into a Nichea snob, so this is a welcome penlight size for me, and at the prices I got them for, possibly a nice gift or two as well.
