Micro-Textured Lens for Solarforce Flashlights

I decided to try my sample with the ultimate challenge: The XP-G3 4500k 90cri in a smooth reflector.

I give this product a thumbs up.

No, it doesn’t fix this emitter. The tint shift is still ugly as sin with green blue and yellow all in one. But I did see a noticeable improvement over how it was without the micro texture. One thing I notice about this vs a frosted lens, the coating/texture/whatever doesn’t “glow”. With other effects it looks like the lens itself has become the light source, with this you can still see through it to the emitter and reflector when the light is on, it’s just a little blurry. That tells me it isn’t blocking the amount of light frosting does. Hopefully that makes sense.

I do think you should price out a run to fit the S2+ and other tube lights, I’d buy one or two.

Been playing with the one I got as well, just busy with work for the next few weeks so no pics. This is amazing and like PD68 said above, the lens itself does not look like the actual emission surface. Good way to put it PD68, I could not place what was so different about this lens and its treatment prior to what you posted.

Putting this in front of a smooth optic (20mm) makes an even smoother look to the beam. Not a “holey moley” difference, but a good one for someone that wants a different look on a clear optic.

In front of my SMO reflector lights, this is EXACTLY what is needed to make a beam that can be used far or near, indoors or out and just looks right. Incredible stuff you have here Randy, I would guess you got your idea from a Kindle or other dedicated glare free device, that is the only thing I can think of. On a sheet of paper in the sun, the lens is glare free, but for flashlights, a little bit off the emitter makes for a beautiful beam from the micro textured lens.

Great stuff! This will be on any light I order from you!

I would also order this as a lens separately as well….

I’ve added some output and throw test to the original post.

I should have the MT lenses available for the S2/S2+ lights in about 2 weeks.

Alright so after a busy work week, I finally got around to putting the lens in my Solarforce L2N lego…

Here’s what it looks like before the swap with an AR lens I got from KD:

Ceiling shot with AR lens (don’t think my old Samsung S3 camera does a good job of showing much here):

Getting ready to do the lens swap here:

Micro-Textured lens installed:

All put back together:

Ceiling shot… from which yeah, my Samsung S3 camera sucks for this type of shot :frowning: :person_facepalming: :

As you guys can see, my ceiling shots don’t show any difference because a combination of me not being a photographer and the old camera on an old phone just wasn’t able to capture. From what I can see is yes I saw no visible difference as far as light output between a regular AR lens and this MT lens, which is great. To my eyes, the Micro-Texture lens does definitely have a subtle smoothing effect on the beam without muddying it up like a heavy orange peel reflector does. It’s too bad a large size lens would be cost prohibitive as I too think this would be a great lens for a pocket thrower like a C8…

That being said, this PFlexPro Micro-Texured Lens gets 2 big thumbs up from me! :+1: :+1:

Just got mine as well, and should have some more detailed feedback shortly.

One thing I noticed (that I didn’t catch initially) was that there is protective film on BOTH sides of the lens. At first I only noticed/removed the film on the more obvious side, as the other side didn’t appear to have any film in place. Also, the attached instructions states to install with the textured side out, and that the clear film side is textured. So, at first I thought there was only one “clear film” side. At least on my sample, the film on the non-obvious side was on there very good and perfectly round. It actually took a bit of effort to get the film off that side once I finally realized it was there.

So, to all that received these as samples, be sure to take the film off both sides!

Edit: Mini-review up:
PFP MT AR P60 Lens Review

The Rayovac beast uses a lens like this. It uses an mkr or another 4 die led but the beam is flawless

I cut one of the MT lenses down and installed it into an S2 XML HI with a smooth reflector… the beam is perfect. I think it may have a little more diffusion since the lens is closer to the source, but still much more like a perfect beam pattern from a smooth reflector. There is still a gain in throw vs the stock lens and a big beam improvement.

I have an order arriving in a few days pre-cut to the S2 dimension (1.5mm x 20.4mm).

I also ordered a few for the C8 just to see what it will do. I still think the C8 size will be too expensive, but I want to try it anyway… I have a C8 that could use some help.

These will not be available as a separate item on my website, so, if you’re interested in buying some of either the Solarforce P60 size or the S2/S2+ size, please PM me (ConUS only). I will have the piece cost later tonight.

I will make these available for individual purchase for about a week,

Conus only?!

correction: anywhere I can mail a first class envelope with up to 3 stamps.
The rule is ‘if it’s anything other than documents, a customs declaration is required’
A few of these lenses in an envelope should mail okay as a document

Pricing for the MT lens is as follows:
20.4mm (S2/S2+) $3.00
29.45mm + o-ring (Solarforce P60 only) $4.50
Per order add: $1 for US or $2 for international
Limit 5 lenses so the lenses will mail in a First Class envelope

PM me for payment instructions.

Finally had some time to test this lens, I used a Eagle Eye A6 with : Nichia 219C D320 5000K, BLF A6 driver, SMO convoy reflector.

Standard EE A6 lens

MT lens

I really like this lens, it makes the beam softer in a subtle way, I find it much more pleasing to look at.

Thank you for making this available.

If you’ve received the Micro-Textured lens and have tried it, please post any comments you have about it.
I’m trying to decide it this will replace my AR lens for the P60 drop ins or just have it as another option (opinions?). All of my personal P60s now have the MT lens it’s the only lens for me.
I’ve also tried it in a C8 and I really like the results.

I’ve had a few more requests for the lenses, so if you’re interested, Sunday 11/20 will be the last day to request them through BLF. After that, they will be available on my website, but only as an option with a flashlight or drop in.

I think they are great. It’s not a night and day difference to me, but it is a noticeable improvement with no downside imo.

PM sent

I’ll take 3x MT lenses for S2+

I’ll take 2 for the s2. Can these be filed down to smaller size?

PM sent for 5 S2+ sized lenses. Thanks Randy.

PM Sent.

Any chance for 28.6mm lenses?

PM sent, thanks for offering this!

I have notices in a SMO P60 with a Nichia led that this is like a night and day difference. I have also installed on in a SMO S2+ with and XP-L HI and OMG it makes the beam so perfect! I am going to have to order more of these.

This is a wonderful product!
