- The Fake-Cree LED Awareness Thread - The new "low" in Budget lights.

Okay I hope that this picture is a decent enough shot that you can see the difference. The light on the left is the one from eBay and for sure a Latticebright. The one on the right is the sk98 that arrived today.

It is obvious that one had a longer focus range, but I can handle that for the difference in just the light color alone. It is hard to see in the picture but the sk98 is a good deal brighter.

You judge... I would love to hear you thoughts.

Hi Terry White.

Check out this flashlight: UltraFire SK98 1*LED 3-Mode 600-Lumen Zooming LED Flashlight

Seems like the torch you got from Amazon, which you suspect has an onboard genuine XM-L.

That torch I ordered a couple years ago for a friend; heck, you can find my review of it on the page I linked (2014/04/15). It uses a genuine XM-L.

Well, glad to see you've woken up to the horrible reality of CrappiceBlight emitters: despicable colour rendering.

Cheers ^:)

Hmmm…

It looks fake to me with the grid of dots like that and no black dot in the corner… :frowning:

Disheartening stuff altogether… :frowning:

I have 2 XML'S 1 clone for sure but looking closer at the other now and I want a higher opinion. Either way both care coming out and new XM-L2's replacing them with much better boards. Provided I can keep the things centered. The butterfly gaskets I ordered have a smaller hole than the retaining ring. At least on this first one. Pictires below...

The run off you see on this one is my fault. It's Flux. both pics are same emitter.

This shot has bettet light and much more clear, and cleaned up some of the flux.

That one is not Cree, the die is too small.

I was pretty sure it was a clone but not 100 percent. Some I can pick out easily others I count the knowledge of you guys. Each one I learn a little more…

Thank you.

Looks a bit like this, but without substrate stain: (click for better resolution)

Side by side makes it much easier to see.

Im going to save that picture if it’s okay just for my own reference.

Im swaping out 2 clones right now. Utting in XM-L2’S and much better boards. Lol one of them the pill is much taller than most and the wire leads are too short to reach the noctigon. I have silicone coaed wire on the way but still probably at least 2 weeks. Think I’m going to harvest the wiring from the clones I removed. Just eally hate swapping wires on those boards they are the 8 7135’s from Mountain. That is a very tiny spot to hit.

hello, my first comment my English null (translator), well you say, Greetings

Hello, friends! I got from aliexpress two different flashlight. Seller page writes that it CREE XM-L T6. I gave him a photo of what I have received, and said it was fake diodes. The seller tried to convince me that this is the original T6. Seller has thousands of of positive feedback and honest. What should I do? How to prove to him that this is not XM-L, is not T6, and is not CREE? Or is it real T6? Write what is this diode. If you can give the link. Help me please!

Welcome to BLF!

Just take a pic from the OP here and place your led next to it.
With green arrow GENUINE CREE to th real, and with red FAKE NOT GENUINE CREE BUT SOMETHING ELSE
Make screnshot of the product page point red arrow to secs stating XML T6 and write in red ADVERTISEMENT SAYS CREE XML, Received produt does not have it

The word “CREE” is the only word you can argue for. “XM-L” and “T6” do not necessarily mean that the LED is CREE branded.

It’s clear, frend. But understand, I say to the seller, it is not Cree XM-L. But the seller said to me that it is a real T6 but with small crystals. (Although sales page he is clearly written: Cree XM-L T6 Yellow) What do i do? How can I prove to him?

Sad state of affairs indeed!
My last batch of 5 Ultrafires from DX are all fake with bad color and brightness.
Has anyone determined some safe sources of genuine Cree drop ins — that still qualify as “budget lights” ?
Thank you.

Face it, they either don’t know or don’t care what they’re selling — unless you make it their problem.

Posting here doesn’t affect this sort of seller at all.

You need to complain to PayPal or your credit card company, convince them, and get a refund

EDIT: or, if it was cheap enough and good enough to be a host, fix it up right, of course. We do that a lot.

If something looks too cheap to believe, it probably is.

Steenbhg, if looking for SK98s, try this one out: UltraFire SK98 LED Flashlight (XM-L2) @FastTech

“XHP50” from Warsun X80. If I compare it to pictures here on BLF and cree datasheet this one sure look suspicious/fake… The dome texture looks more like LB HP50 but not the backside. Even the mcpcb is suspicious. XMK=No info to be found

That one looks like they have changed the retaining ring a little. Made it smaller. I may order one of those just to check it out.

Yes, looks very much like the LB HP50 and I think it is one. Of course many sites offering the WarsunX80 are labeling it “XHP50” which is a clear false reference to the Cree original.

K.

The concentric circles are interesting. perhaps a OP-Reflector is not nessasary to prevent a donut hule.
