+1

It is usually a compromise between lumens and lux. One direction to go is multiple reflectors/emitters, like a bigger TM16GT. This way one can get lumens and lux as long as the separate reflectors make good use of the available area and are driven well.

Too much unsure so I will start keeping the interest list later down the path
For now just think along

Basic ways the same as the Q8:
Designs open source
No money/profit for the team, just the fun of doing it
Open about and for as much as possible

I’m in for sure, make sure there is a good copper heat sink in there somewhere.

Interested.

Cool!

I’m interested too…but…where does it end, lol? Instead of starting with a 120mm reflector why not a 160mm? It’s best to start big instead of small due to the fact that newer, bigger, and better will be out before you know it. It’ll take a little longer for a manufacturer to best it if you build it big. The Eagletac M25C2 Turbo that I modded with a fet and dedomed XM-L2 U4 1A has a 92mm reflector and does 636,763cd. My wife calls it the plunger because the head is so much bigger than the body but it throws like crazy. I’d still like to be able to hold the light with one hand though, so 160mm may be out of the question…unless a handle is added…

CST90 (Inner diameter 117mm, Outer 128mm). Minimum order quantity, 100.

Just need to get them to not cut out the base like above.

I’m in!

Would prefer 4 cells instead of 8 (in fact not interested at all if 8 cells). Go for max lux over lumens (plenty of flooders or compromise beam lights around).

Is it not too deep? It’s just a question…I’m not into the whole measuring the angle of the beam thing…it just looks really deep to me. I guess that would product more of a spot?…than spill?

Of course I’m in!

Its 120mm deep. Meant to throw, throw, throw. Tried to get a group buy going here, but it didn't lift off.

Depending on price.
I will be this one…

Cheers David

Did you get one or did they not sell one at all since the buy didn’t happen?

Definitely interesting project

I definitely want one

About a year later, I was finally able to convince Illumination Machines to let me have a demo. It was scratched, dented, and appeared to have a couple defects, but is still a beauty to behold. I lost a very special family member during the course of the host build here. I just haven't had the heart to pick it back up since. I do want to finish it eventually.

I sure am sorry to hear that. I can understand. :frowning:

Wow, might be worth building a light around that reflector. The quality issues are compounded the bigger the reflector is, just like aspherics, so size I'm sure comes with a cost.

Interested, want to see where this ends up going. Max throw over lumens I think.

Is it going to have a top handle like the old 6v lanterns ?
