What did you mod today?

Today I swapped the emitter of my Olight S-mini :

Lol…you made someone a very happy camper though. You were able to spread your joy elsewhere. My edc has been the X5 since I received it and it probably will be for a long time.

545kcd using xp-l hi ? Sweet .

Also , anyone using the 86mm KD reflector in his D01 ?

How did you focus your D01 for that throw?

Yeah, that little quad is a pretty dang sweet light, for sure. Dang sure won’t be picking one up at Wally’s World anytime soon…

Nothing yet but it is still early...

I cheated unknown. The “Big Head” Courui is now the Mega Fat Head Courui.

153mm Seanna optic.

Ohh i remember now :smiling_imp:

Shame Shame Shame. :stuck_out_tongue:

I need to tweak mine. It was such a pain for me to mod it when I finally got it all together and properly centered I just left it. Low 200kcd’s iirc. Really disappointing for a FET XPL-HI in a Courui D01.

CQG Carbon Fibre

I recharged the batteries completely in these 5 and measured again. The only other change was that I removed a rather tall centering ring from the Courui, but it didn’t make much difference. It was one of my earliest mods, and I have a feeling I just need to completely rebuild and update it. Any tips on where best focus is? Right now the reflector is directly on the mcpcb. Not sure if I need to raise it up more or sand some off the reflector.

Marked improvement in the L2 with a charged cell.
Here are the numbers:

  • Nitecore TM16 - 105kcd > 111kcd
  • Solarstorm SP03 - 236kcd > 255kcd
  • Courui D01 - 231kcd > 239kcd
  • Brinyte B158 - 230kcd > 243kcd
  • Convoy L2 - 130kcd > 194kcd

Sweet mod CRX !
I sit a wrap or did you fit the CQG into a carbon fibre tube ?

Thanks. It’s a 14mm od x 12mm id carbon fibre tube, i just cut the pieces and epoxied on.
I always felt the S2 was just a bit too thin & slippery - much better now.

10180 & 10250 battery charger

Great work one more time CRX … Very very nice charger

Cheers mate

I know it was discussed, but didn't see your answer. What is the distance you are measuring from?

I use 5m but I try to always mention it. I've measured/seen improvements when I've measured same lights, same cell levels outdoors at over 10m.

I was measuring the full length of my living room, 26ft

OK - really hard to gauge on such a small sample of known light configurations. You are in the ballpark I would suspect. My original meter, LX1330B, doesn't need a calibration factor - it always seemed bout right, and matched up to other multiple meters on the same light. But I did buy a 2nd one from an eBay source, cheaper than elsewhere, and it's pretty consistent at 5% under the original meter. The LX1330B has been proven to be pretty consistent so I suspect the source of where I bought it.

I'd check with others, maybe reviews, who measured the TM16 and compare. Manufacturers specs are frequently off - look at ThruNite's TN42 as an example, plus ThruNite has always been consistently low in their throw specs. Modded lights have too many variables - biggest is actual amps to the LED, LED itself, and LED positioning, replaced lens, etc. Batteries, wires, etc. all factor in to amps at the LED.

This should help with Courui focusing.
