Olight S1A tear down

Everyone got this sweet S1A for review…
I got mine too, but choose to swap the emitter so I made a video.
Basically, you start like the S1 and driver pill assembly is made like an S2 :

EDIT : I am a bit surprised to found an aluminum LED PCB in this little 600 lumens flashlight :

Is it possibly DTP? Can you check? I guess it wouldn’t have to be anything special. To make merely 600 lumens, it is way under-powered. A cheap aluminum board can probably handle that ~1A or so current just fine.

Damn great!

Sorry I didn’t check and just reflowed a new emitter on it.

Okay, something strange about the S1A :

What the heck?!

Exactly…
Quick thinking : UV does make the LED phosphor glow, and maybe then the LED is producing a small amount of current…that current might confuse the driver maybe

The UV might get partially to the LED surface which acts a little like a photodiode.

The drivers parasitic drain might be so low and the sensitivity of the gate to light up high, so that the very small reverse voltage triggers the driver to light up.

I just tested mine and it does it as well! The brass, copper and aluminum S1 Batons and the S10R II do not do it! That is so cool…

That is one cool find.

  • S1A SS - Activated by UV
  • S-mini Ti - not activated
  • S-mini Copper - not activated
  • S1 Ti - not activated

Confirmed. S2A or any other Olight of mine does not do it.

Same here, that’s some crazy behavior

I’ve got a bunch of new and old Olights…none of them do it, only the S1A.
BTW, it’s not the stock emitter, mine is a T5-5B1 from Convoy
