BLF GT Design

The thermal behaviour will be fine when it’s thick aluminium.

In terms of appearance, design 3# win my heart.

Thank you.

Since everyone else is saying what they voted for and why, I guess I’ll do the same.

I really like designs #1 and #3 for the conical head. To me, that looks better than the bulging head of the other designs. I came here with the intention of choosing #1 because in lots of ways, it really is the best looking light to me. But, thinking about actually owning the light, holding it in my hand, and using it, #1 feels too clunky. So, I voted for #3 this time. I think, if design #2 had a conical head with the anti-roll blocks (instead of cuts) like design #3, that would be a better look for me. But, really, if #1 was just a tad bit less clunky looking, it would still be my favorite.

Another thing I want to mention: I think if there might be a BLF Quad in the near future from one of these designs, I’d rather it have the head shape of design #2. Even though I prefer the conical head for a single emitter, I think the bulging head looks better for a quad. So, maybe we should go with #1 or #3 for the GT1, and #2 for the GT4 later.

hmm poll is open, should work

this is not looking good way too divided.
I am PMming all the designers to see if we can work something out.

The poll has only been “live” less than a day. Give it time…

While you’re waiting, check out my idea in the post above yours. :innocent:

I like your idea

I encourage anyone to try to envision N°2 design (wich i agree looks good) in actual use, in a glove box or laying down on a car roof, imagine this massive light resting on those two very localized points (the head elbow and the tail anti-roll/cigar grip) if horizontal, and that crenelated bezel if vertical , it will ruin the ano on the light and the surface you lay the light on if you are not extremely slow/cautious, this light will be completly beat up around head elbow and cigar grip after a day of real use, and it wil chew any surface soft enough with it’s crenelated bezel, now imagine design N°1 with rubber around the tailcap and bezel in any position, that’s a well tought out and utilitarian design, perhaps lacking a bit of knurling to improve grip.

It seems really depends if one wants a shelf queen and favors looks over function, or if one wants to actually use the light.

The rubberized bezel and tail is actually a really good idea that I liked from the start, I was sad I didn’t think of them actually lol.

It is something that could be added to design 2 easily enough as well (or any of the others).

Now that’s a design I could believe in for real world use.

While looking good (especially number 2) I’m afraid a plunger of this size, without a handle, will be too tiring to handle for anything longer than short show off sessions.

The handle was rejected early on when people selected the plunger style for this light.

All of these lights will have the ability to attach a handle to the tripod mount but none of them will come with a handle.

A lantern style light will be far superior for a handle based light and it is something that is still being talked about for a later date.

Please count me in when that happens.

Yes Davi, like that input.
As a matter of fact I have been asking for a smoother part of the head to 5ar from the first time I saw a design but that area was left clunky so I figured this is a “designer choice” he does not want to change so then it is done and I stop asking (I see no point in repeating and repeating since part of the organisers team I think I should be as objective as possible)

Good points that should be / should have been incorporated into it.
As is it has many sharp edges.
It will scratch that car roof.

Well,it’s a good point for good reasons, so i still think 5ar should improve his design accordingly.
It’s actually why i joined in with alternatives.

I know, and you must understand how frustrating it is to slowly see the things I asked 5ar to do way before the first render was published now slowly getting in and not having them in causing the mess we are in now.

My 1x extension TK75 and my X60vn are just fine with the “issues” you describe. And I used my X60vn in Afghanistan in the middle of Kabul.
Shelf queens they were not.

I also like DavidEF’s idea even better - give the cone to those who want it, and I’ll take #2 for a potential GT4/GF quad.

That’s quite the undertaking, it’s much less messy than it could have been, you are doing a great job as well as all the contributors/designers. :+1:

Slowly but surely? :+1:

 … :open_mouth:
What are you referring to when you say, “the mess we are in now”???
