BLF GT Design

#1 design is classy and reminds me of the Polarion... my dream flashlight for many years. #2 looks badass like a L6 on steroids. If the manufacturer can also make the handle my vote goes for #1, but if not I'll go with #2. Either design is amazing!

The handle will not be coming with the light although you will be able to use a tripod mounted handle on both lights.

Fritz could most likely upload the CAD file for the handle though and it is possible it could be 3D printed but it would not look nearly as good or be as strong as metal.

I have a good idea for the handle and will include it into my next design.

No, while they both/all look great…… #2 has better proportions, ergonomics, and balance. As well as better cooling potential for a future mod platform.
Vote #2.

Yeah, Jerommel, while I respect you greatly, I really disagree on this one. I have a TK75 w/extension, an X60, a TR-J20, and a TR-J19 and they all balance and handle just fine. I have a cone-shaped stubby zoom light and it’s the worst by far on ergos, balance, and proportion. Heck, I wish my TM16 had a 4x18650 extension available.

But as it’s been said, maybe do a run of both designs? There are two camps that really love one and really don’t love the other. I’d be all for BLF GT1 being design 1 and BLF GT2 (or whatever the name) being design 2.

Yes The Miller, explain to us a little more closely

Doing 2 designs of the same light would not be an option due to simple logistics, it makes no sense for a company to do that.

Now converting one of the designs into a different flashlight, that is something that might be an option.

Say something in the ~60-70mm range with 26650 or even 32650 cells maybe?

Yes Keithd this is discussed but using same tube, base head for GT2 or whatever the name  is much easier then start over with a new design.

OK, I read what you said (quoted below); in response to my question ‘The Miller’. Not sure that answered what I asked.

So I’ll just make it real plain.

Maybe it is a “language thing”, but when I read what is quoted below; it comes across to me as if you are throwing ‘5ar’ under the bus and blaming the need for this poll on him.

And personally, I do not see any need for ‘5ar’ to change his design for any reason…. unless he himself wants to.

I know that is pretty plain, but there is no use beating around the bush; that is how your statements come across to me.

All the designs look very good and I am just telling you how your remarks come across to me.

teacher, had a post ready, refuse to openly go into negativity, Pm it to you now.

Guys; it’s only a flashlight, not the end of the world.

But how will we know if we are approaching the end of the world without a flashlight??! Do you realize what could happen if you don’t see it coming!?

:open_mouth:

It’s apparently your taste, but the #2 has a heavy bulky head so you can’t easily hold it near the centre of gravity.
That’s just not nice for a heavy hand held light.

You bite your tongue! You bite it right now!

…flashlight is love, flashlight is life.

 and

Please, spare us the armchair wisdom this time.
But let me make it plain then.
It seems (and correct me if i’m wrong) 5ar doesn’t yet pick up on the points made about his design.
And i’m not talking about aesthetics, but about weight distribution, handling and protruding sharp bits.

:person_facepalming:
It is too late for that ‘The Miller’, you have already done that with the negative comments you openly made about ‘5ar’.

I simply then “openly” asked you about them, yet you seemingly refuse to “openly” address what you said.
I’m not picking on you or even mad or upset.
I only wish for you to “openly” explain your comments or “openly” apologize to ‘5ar’ if you cannot.

If I read what he wrote correctly, ‘5ar’ would like an explanation also.

The ball is in your court………

I think miller is (understandably) frustrated with all the bickering that has been going on, I think it just caught up to him.

Admittedly I have been childish and I should have just let things slide, I apologize for my part in it.

I also need to apologize to Jerommel for being overly argumentive.

How about we put things behind us and everyone work _TOGETHER _to make the GT happen.

Both design 1 and 2 are good and popular options.
Both of them need things tweaked and changed, neither is perfect.
The results are too close between the two to make a concrete decision.
Instead of arguing why one is better than the other, we should be making suggestions and improvements to both of them one feature at a time.

Eg. first decide what the logo will look like, then decide on knurling or no knurling and where, then decide on tailcap flanges or not, etc.
I think by doing this and having these decisions implemented to both designs we will end up with something in the middle that most people will be happy with.
Currently the lights are far too different and unique and appeal to people with different tastes.

Maybe working out other parts of the light first like a reflector will help make more progress currently rather than arguing about aesthetics.
Thickness of metals, positions of fins, and stuff like that is not set in stone so anything about “balance” or “temperature” is pretty irrelevant at this point in the decision making progress.
Both lights have almost identical proportions and balance and temperature can be worked out later easily.
