You could probably do that, but it might just create ‘dust bunnies’ which would be more aggravating. Maybe spray a little electronics cleaner into the bulb to wet the dust, then blow it out with compressed air? Or, just make sure it is installed inside a fairly closed light fixture.
A picture of the 4 rows of the 120 leds on a glass plate in that advert.
Cool light!
Big Clive is cool too.
So these are not COB but COG, chip on glass.
I like that COG design. Can’t wait till it evolves into nice looking bulbs. Certainly does not need to have the traditional A60 shape anymore.
I have just received a few of the retro filament style WW COB LED inside glass bulb for a fixture I am repurposing. A60 and some ST64 versions in 6W and 8W.
One 6W A60 fizzled when I hit the switch… broke the glass and saved the COB strips. Threw the rest away. Good I ordered an extra.
Nice find, thank you.
I’ve been wondering if the audio stream on these videos could be routed through a Google Voice phone to get a transcript.
Searched for mcob on our forum and found nothing.
Embarassing and scandalous so I changed the titel on this thread.
For those of you in the USA, those new type of bulbs are being sold at Home Depot. They came out on Black Friday. A box of 10 is priced at $19.88.
They didn’t sell, so the price is being reduced. So far I have seen them as low at $15.00. I am thinking they will go even lower.
They are being sold as “rough service bulbs”
Tempting dchomac!
This may push you over the top
Now they are $15 for the 10
Advertised as bouncy bulbs: World's first (nearly) unbreakable LED light bulb can be dropped off the side of a building and still work
I wonder what “amber” means. Lighting Science used to make “turtle safe” amber LEDs, so they ought to know.

Looks like these ‘filament’ bulbs are all called “amber” — glass enclosure of a LED strip.
Huh, the Home Depot/LSC “durabulb” looks to have the square light source inside.
The “AliExpreess linked earlier in thee thread (”COB) to have emitters on a circular board — anyone know more? THe illustration looks like light is emitted on both sides of the board (the side of the bulb toward the screw threads isn’t shaded)
I wonder when we’ll be able to buy ceilings that light up ….
I don’t need bulbs, I don’t need bulbs… I DON’T NEED BULBS…. {But I can use them if I had them!!! } Grrr… :person_facepalming:
How can you continue to resist?
(even more temptation)
and a second store
If it would make you feel any better, I succumbed and bought 2 buckets.
Lifetime supply of bulbs for 20 bucks yeah, but on wrong side of atlantic ocean
How about 24 bulbs for $10?
Crazy, isn’t it?
I guess at a buck a bulb, it’s my responsibility to do a tear down.
So here goes.
^ Not a real COB (or COG), but just 4 of those LED filaments stuck on a piece of glass.
