New type of E27 MCOB Led Bulb

Hereā€™s another one:

So these are not COB but COG, chip on glass.

I like that COG design. Canā€™t wait till it evolves into nice looking bulbs. Certainly does not need to have the traditional A60 shape anymore.
I have just received a few of the retro filament style WW COB LED inside glass bulb for a fixture I am repurposing. A60 and some ST64 versions in 6W and 8W.
One 6W A60 fizzled when I hit the switchā€¦ broke the glass and saved the COB strips. Threw the rest away. Good I ordered an extra.

Nice find, thank you.

Iā€™ve been wondering if the audio stream on these videos could be routed through a Google Voice phone to get a transcript.

Searched for mcob on our forum and found nothing.
Embarassing and scandalous so I changed the titel on this thread.

For those of you in the USA, those new type of bulbs are being sold at Home Depot. They came out on Black Friday. A box of 10 is priced at $19.88.
They didnā€™t sell, so the price is being reduced. So far I have seen them as low at $15.00. I am thinking they will go even lower.
They are being sold as ā€œrough service bulbsā€

Tempting dchomac!

This may push you over the top
Now they are $15 for the 10

Advertised as bouncy bulbs: World's first (nearly) unbreakable LED light bulb can be dropped off the side of a building and still work

I wonder what ā€œamberā€ means. Lighting Science used to make ā€œturtle safeā€ amber LEDs, so they ought to know.

Looks like these ā€˜filamentā€™ bulbs are all called ā€œamberā€ ā€” glass enclosure of a LED strip.

Huh, the Home Depot/LSC ā€œdurabulbā€ looks to have the square light source inside.
The ā€œAliExpreess linked earlier in thee thread (ā€COB) to have emitters on a circular board ā€” anyone know more? THe illustration looks like light is emitted on both sides of the board (the side of the bulb toward the screw threads isnā€™t shaded)

I wonder when weā€™ll be able to buy ceilings that light up ā€¦.

I donā€™t need bulbs, I donā€™t need bulbsā€¦ I DONā€™T NEED BULBSā€¦. {But I can use them if I had them!!! } Grrrā€¦ :person_facepalming:

How can you continue to resist?

(even more temptation)

and a second store

If it would make you feel any better, I succumbed and bought 2 buckets.

Lifetime supply of bulbs for 20 bucks yeah, but on wrong side of atlantic ocean

How about 24 bulbs for $10?

Crazy, isnā€™t it?

I guess at a buck a bulb, itā€™s my responsibility to do a tear down.
So here goes.

^ Not a real COB (or COG), but just 4 of those LED filaments stuck on a piece of glass.

Speaking of COBs:

It is 4 of the filaments stuck on a thick piece of glass. Then they used some sort of flexible glue (goop) to stick that to the flexable vinyl frame (globe). All of this is done to cushion the actual filaments from shock. Hence the term ā€œrough serviceā€ bulb.

The filaments are COG, chip on glass. So because these filaments are glued onto a slab of glass they perhaps could be called
COG on glass, or COG-OG
chip on glass, on glass.

Actually the chips are on something (?) inside those filaments.
So itā€™s a FOG lightā€¦ (filament on glass) :stuck_out_tongue:

Got a bucket-O-bulbs today, 10 for the $9.90
Used 9 so far, need to get another Tub.
Nice light. Used 3 sets of 3, over 2 bathroon sinks and a cieling fan. One left. After a few minutes they are pulling about 5.5W. Nice color and really surprised how well the light gets dispersed in all direction.

Definitely need more.
