Since the SK68 usually has rather wide inside tube, you could put 2x CR2 in series, but you’ll smoke the driver and / or the LED.

Now, please bear in mind that, since SK68s use very simple boost drivers (to handle Ni-CDs/Ni-MHs/alkaleaks), not even with all my expertise do I find advisable to use unprotected li-ions on these crappy flashlights.

Thus, better install a protection PCB on these li-ion batteries meant to be used with SK68s and other multi-chemistry boost driver crappy torches.

The Led is already receiving 3v.
The driver is boosting the 1.5v up to 3v in order
to meet the forward voltage requirement of the led.

If the led was receiving 1.5v it would not light up at all.

The feat those boost drivers have to accomplish is quite a bit finickier. Because of the actual battery load voltages (IR dependant) plus other component induced voltage drops (springs, etc), their operative voltage range window needs to go waay lower.

I can get “N” cells for £2 at my local sainsburys that’s what got me thinking. Can any anyone confirm if 2x cr2’s fit this light? Next question do NiMh cr2’s exist? Are lithium manganese primary’s available in the Uk?Thanks everyone for you help trying to avoid lithium rechargeables with this one.

Tried the light with 2 NiMh and a piece of wire and it was twice as bright as with one cell, so now I’d like to know if 1/2aa or cr2 NiMh cells exist anyone know?

How long did you run it for, sometimes the magic smoke doesn’t come out straight away :wink:

As far as I have read these lights can run on 14500s so two NiMh should be fine? Also just found these will join to make a 2.4v aa to use in this light, thanks everyone for your input. I will report back with the results when I receive the batteries….

Will post white wall shots with a single Aa NiMh and the 3.6v 1/3 NiMh pack when they arrive.

Some notes about that 3S Ni-MH on an SK-68, Cliffdenyer:

With 3.6+V at the driver's input of a 3-mode SK68 I have lying around disassembled, I could measure ≈1.2A tailcap current in high mode. That's a 2.5C discharge rate for a 480mAh battery, equivalent to a 5A discharge rate for a 2000mAh Ni-MH. Now, if those batteries were real 480mAh Ni-MH's with low internal resistance, that could be acceptable in the hands of a tech knowledgeable user who would willingly turn-off the flashlight as soon as he notices a drop in output. However:

That “Flash AA” is an off-brand battery which barely tested close to 1400mAh at low discharge rate. I want to illustrate this to make this supposition: your “480mAh” cells battery is really more like 350mAh. Take a look at that “Flash AA” 5A discharge curve then, and think about it; also, bear in mind the SK68's boost driver won't cut the crap until all the way down to sub volt levels…

My driver is Five mode so it’s different to yours, maybe Il keep this one for a while and test the batteries out and get another for gifting.

Barkuti do think it would be better to use 2x 600mah 1/2 aa NiMh for the gift light? I will keep the 450mah 1/3 aa’s for myself.
