ENEDED

ouch, that’s some bad news :s

I also ordered one yesterday… so, if I understood well, there are only two differences:

1) the head was modified this way:

to prevent the opticts to crush the leds

2) no more threadlock

am I right? did anybody find a good solution for problem #1?

Now the price is on $38 like the codes on banggood.com.

A solution for the other head is change the leds and rasp the optics a bit down, that there can not be contact between optics and LED.
The other solution is to get a refund because of the wrong description. I have ordered one for the low price.

I would think someone has found a good solution or modification that allows using the same leds?

Are all the old version non-functionnal or can we get lucky ?

I bought two new/old versions from the aliexpress’s seller and i am not really happy about it… :person_facepalming:

Mine (S41S Colored with Nichia 219B) from the first batch actually still works and I have “tortured” it at least a bit.

I’ve been using a first batch S41S with Nichia 219B as an EDC for about six weeks now, and it’s still OK. It gets a few minutes of use every day, mostly on the 50lm level, but I have run full test cycles on turbo as well.

The only glitch I’ve seen is that it occasionally drops into the configuration menu when I’m changing mode. I suspect ropey switch debouncing.

On a related note, one of my two original black aluminium S41 lights has failed after virtually no usage; it starts jumping around between random modes after it’s been on for a minute or two. Alternatively, Banggood may accidentally have shipped me a prototype of the never-released Astrolux S41 Limited Edition Christmas Tree Light :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, fingers crossed, i guess.

Anyone know a summary of the reported problems with the first version?

can anyone confirm that XP-G3 is quite hotter than Nichia version at the same amount of time period.

my xp-g3 version gets quite hot in even level 4 than the nichia model within about a minute.

I have seen that some say thermal paste is not enough and led plate does not touch the copper part properly and it cause the extra heat. is that true??

ASTROS41S - invalid promo code… any updates on the code? thank you

If there are problems with the heat path such as no thermal paste or port contact of the mcpcb to the host, the host will actually feel much cooler while your leds burn up. The faster a light heats up the better the thermal path. So in your case, the nichia host would be the one with problems, if there is a problem at all.

I see: ok the optics, but why changing the leds?

Not necessarily.
The MCPCB will get much hotter and the efficiency of the LEDs will be bad, so in all there will be more energy transferred into heat, and the only way the heat can go is the pill, so eventually the light will get hotter when there is bad heat transfer to the body.

That’s true though.

I’m confused. I’ve just ordered the S41S, will I be able to use its head with my 18650 S1 tube (wich has 0,95 mm pitch)? I thought so because according to this http://www.banggood.com/it/Astrolux-S41-Astrolux-S1-LED-Flashlight-18650-Body-Tube-p-1054468.html at least S41 and S1 should have common threading… but now it seems that the S41S matches the S2+ body, which I also have and I confirm that has wider threads (1,2 mm pitch). So how is this thing?? does that mean that S41S and S41 have different threading? :s

I’m sorry but that’s just not the way it works. If your s41 has an mcpcb that is separated from the led shelf your emitters will fry before your light barely gets worm. Ask me how I know;)

Convoy S2+ does not fit Astrolux S41S

the user I quote in my last post wrote it did fit  so you think it will not fit the convoy S2+ but it will instead fit the astrolux S1? (which is what I’m hoping for, of course. For the option of using the 18650 tube but also to use the aluminum 18350 tube+tailcap to shave some weight)

As you can see in the description

S1 and S41 shares the same tube.

S41 and S41S have the same dimensions, just different materials.

I just received my second S41S today. I waited until after the problems were sorted out before I ordered my first and it arrived awhile ago. All was good so I ordered a second. It’s good too.

I have noticed that some were complaining that theirs kicks down to moonlight after running on Turbo for the 35 seconds or so.

Both of mine do too, when running on an 18350 IMR from Radio Shack. However both of them kick down to level 6 from Turbo (level 7) when running on a 20Q 18650. I also ordered the longer tubes.

Yeah I linked the 18650 tube a few posts above, to show the same… hopefully my S41S will lego with my S1 (which is also the most logic thing to expect). It’s just so weird that every now and then someone shows up saying that their copy fits the S2+… and there’s even a picture showing that, more info here: Astrolux S41 - presale ended - #1313 by fedcas
