Freeme Review: JETBeam JET-1 MK 480lm XP-G2 14500/ AA - incomplete, pic only

I got 800mAh Keeppower cells

Last charge showed 848mAh

I opened it up for centering the LED and ordered a replacement XPL Hi

My advise for centering the reflector is to glue the reflector with the spacer, its almost impossible to get it centered without that, bcs it has not a typical centering ring

I ordered 3 of em only one got decent centered led

It is glued, but with some heat you can get it opened relatevily easy
Its like some soft acrylic glue

My Nitecore P12 is absolutely resistant to be opened up with more heat and way more force no chance

Lexel were the Keeppower cells you used protected or unprotected?
Thanks

Protected as the light drains em until the PCB trips
Cell voltage putting in charger is then 2.9V

Does anyone know the approx lumen level on Mid setting when using a 14500 battery? It’s gotta be more than 30.

My camera is not showing any PWM on any mode. Using a Samsung galaxy S6 camera, with a 14500 cell in the light.

get in your shower and light waterdrops you will see PWM with Lithium battery

Couldn’t tell when swinging the light, but finally could see it by pointing the light directly into the camera. Certainly don’t notice it with the naked eye. I tried it in the shower, and didn’t see anything with the naked eye. But taking a video of droplets of water, you’re always going to see a frame/strobe effect. Just like a video of an airplane propeller. I don’t see PWM as a real problem with this light using a 14500.

Falling droplets you see always with naked eye the PWM
Or taking a photo of falling droplets

Video is the most unreliable method to detect pwm

I don’t see anything like that with the I MK in the shower. Not on a photograph either.

PWM on earlier batch was not so good. Perhaps they have updated it?

I tested a 3 months old light with 900Hz PWM

1/100s image

The pwm is easily noticeable with the eyes in falling droplets as its sloeer than Convoy 4500Hz

My Jet-1 stopped working today, tried AA’s (primary alkaline, Enelop Pro) and 14500 but it lights very dimly and that’s all. So in BLF spirit i disassembled the light and everything looked fine so i decided to go further, i striped the driver and now i am trying to find driver that will fit in there so i can piggyback it on the stock contact board.

Is there some decent and widely available driver (China preferred, shipping from USA is expensive) that can be used for this light or i might be in trouble? Every driver up to 15mm should fit in there, led is going to be either the one i have now, the xp-g3 4500k or maybe 219b 5000k.

This is how the stock driver looks

and here is the contact board without any components on it, ready for another driver

In case anyone is still interested about runtime on AA cells in high mode…

Is there any imformation about the output of low and medium mode on 14500 battery?

nice pictures Freeme !!!

Nice pic…but sorry, you must not change the interval of minutes, this pic seems a more different runtime than the real, the scale is not good.

Thank you for your compliment.

Well, I’ve compressed the first 80 minutes or so as there was not much happening there.

According to manufacturer, runtime on high is 1.1 hours, so I dont understand what you mean when you say that runtime is different than real. I basically got about 80 minutes before output started dropping quickly, using a standard capacity nimh cell.

Here it is with uniform time scale, just less resolution…

I bought the Jetbeam MK-1 as my first ever EDC light. I have been carrying it with me and using it every day it for over 6 months. I figured I would share some of my thoughts as a newb.

1. The anodizing is very attractive, but not very durable. It has wore off in areas where it would contact other items in my pocket.

2. The pocket clip has been amazing. I have never had the light come loose or slip out of my pocket. It also is very low profile and hard to see in my pocket.

3. I use a AA and the battery does last a long time. I typically only use the lowest setting as I am typically only using it to get behind computers or at night to get around the house and yard.

4. The Medium and High settings are very impressive and are even brighter than my full size Mastercraft Maglite (which makes it my primary camping light as well).

5. Based on Freeme’s review it appears that Jetbeam has consistency issues as mine does stand straight when resting on the tail cap and the lense does not fog up on any setting.

6. I can confirm that the back cap does gather lots of dust and junk, useless in my opinion.

Just got this little beauty today, saw it at a great price and couldn’t resist.

Now to play with it and see what it whispers to me…
