KD (kaidomain): Deals and new products thread

Thank you very much for sourcing this driver, order placed.

Happy New Year BanL

You’re welcome

Thanks

Hey Kaidomain.
I bought http://kaidomain.com/p/S026149.Triple-Cree-XP-L-HD-Neutral-White-4500K-LED-Emitter-with-20mm-x-1mm-DTP-Copper-PCB-(Parallel)-w-optics
I thought, that when I bought LEDs with an optic, it will be fit together. But it’s a ordinary optic for Nichia / XP-G / XP-L HI not to XP-L HD. The optic is first based on the LED domes, not on the legs. Led domes will be damaged.

There is two sides on this:

  1. Kaidomain should not sell triples with optics that do not fit.
  2. on the other hand it is known, at least for Carclo triple optics of which the KD optic is a clone, that XPL-HD leds do not fit. So it could have been figured out beforehand. That does require some knowledge/experience on the subject though, and KD should not assume all customers experts

So why would KD sell a XP-L HD triple at all if it does not fit under an optic? Two possibilities:

  1. to be used without optic
  2. or they assume that the buyer is going to dedome the leds.

Or 3) that the customer will modify the optic to fit at their own risk.

djozz, KD optics is not Carclo clone.

I have one of these XPL-HD triple kits and with it being my first build of a triple I had no idea what to expect, seamed to go together ok to me. And it functions ok (although I did expect more light!! but then I guess we all want more of that!)

Using a BLF A6 host, short tube , efest purple 18350 , Convoy 8x 7135 driver with new firmware. Home made alloy spacer between LED PCB and shelf.

Reading what you guys are saying Is something up with the fitting of the optic? , The optic seams to sit on its legs and the LED domes equally ,this correct?

I will choose third option, and try to drill the optic a little bit, to fit the domes in.

Is it the same lens: http://kaidomain.com/p/S023167.3-in-1-20mm-Optical-Lens ? If I waste first one I have to get possibility to buy new one.

Probably You just didn’t noticed that the lens first sits on the leds domes, and it’s still missing around 0,5mm that the optic legs base in the right place. You just get lucky You didn’t damaged the LED domes when assembling all together.

I assumed that because it fits the same board, but now that you correct me I see that I’m completely wrong. Just had a look at the KD triple that I received last week, it even does not fit the Carclo 20mm triple optic, just KD’s own one (which looks nice enough btw, I like the thicker build and the flat surface so that it can more safe be used in a flashlight without glass lens).

Left KD 20mm triple optic, right Carclo 20mm optic.

In what way does it not fit?

Any chance to get copper DTP or at least aluminium triple 219C 4000K R9050 serial boards?

Home lighting purposes.

Cheers ^:)

The KD triple boards I have are JUNK, they aren’t flat at all too thin by the time I filed and stoned flat, you can spin them on a flat surface like a TOP!

It’s look like stamped from thin copper plate. Edges are rounded, and aren’t flat as KawiBoy1428 said. If compared to other top quality like Noctigon it seems to be very weak.

But for this price I think we didn’t get more.

Carclo 20mm optic seems more clearer than KD optic and better light transmission

and the carclo look to have slightly more clearance for the emitter base. Wont be resting on top of the emitter.

Anyone has used a KD triple board + optic combination yet to see if these potential issues are actually a real problem?

As far as the board goes: It takes two minutes to sand it flat (I always flatten my boards, I wish I could get the pills as flat as the boards), they are copper and are DTP and therefore will be as good as any DTP board in heat performance.

About the optic: it looks like it will be closer to the led indeed which could potentially damage the led, but may also extract a bit more light out of the led. I’m curious about the beam.

djozz, can you please measure full height of KD triple set (board+optics)? Mine one is still on the way.

The board plus optics in correct position is 7.4mm but there’s an issue, the legs, when fully inserted up to where the ‘stops’ are (which I assume is the correct optical position, and the optic just not touches the silicon of the leds there), they stick out on the underside of the rather thin 1.0mm board by .7mm.So the optic plus full legs is 8.1mm. Seems like the optic is made with a 2mm board thickness in mind. Nothing you can’t sand off though…

Hmmm… The picture shows the optics resting on the LEDs, not on the ‘stops’.
I had noticed that too with my triples.
Had the board been the regular 1.6mm thickness, it would prevent that from happening, the optics would then be 0.1mm above the LED.

I don’t follow. The “stops” of the optic and the LEDs both rest on the upper surface of the board, independent of its thickness?
