Unscrew the head to reveal the micro USB charger port.Forward tail clicky soldered into brass tube and fixed to tail cap with brass contact ring. Brass contact points in head unit.
Charging unit is potted inside a copper housing.A 300mAh 14250 cell is used with this light.To charge, remove flashlight head, turn on the clicky switch and connect USB lead.
Red indicator for charging and green for charge complete.
The charge current is 300mAh maximum, around 1C for this 300mAh 14250 cell.DQG Family

I’m not sure what happened to the tail. Stock it is a twisty, right? Did you remove the magnet and drill a hole in the cap, and work from there to make the switch? (somehow)

Thanks mate, yeah it’s a twisty in stock form and has an 8mm x 2mm magnet in the tail so i drilled a hole, made a magnetic sandwich from 0.5 & 1mm magnets with an o-ring in the middle, covered that with a disc of copper tape with 1mm solid copper wire pressed in around the edge of the endcap and made a silicone foam doughnut stuck on with double sided tape in the middle for breaking contact when pressure is released.
It still works as a twisty too of course but i find momentary switches really useful.

Wow, I’ve been looking at my DQG AA Stainless since January, Why? Because of that darn bezel and driver, I just wasn’t quit sure enough to get the torch and have at it, so decided to put it aside for awhile, glad I did now,
Your Ti version is just beautiful, I just might need to get the Ti as well especially now that you’ve solved my questions and seeing just how great your mod has turned out, I’m aiming for half that great, I hope.

Thank you CRX for sharing this, I followed your link from your plumbing department light build, what a light, which by the way I found some very interesting PEX brass fittings the other day at Home Depot that just might make some nice pills, they are brass plugs for PEX tubing, push them in the tube and hose clamp them, a 20mm Noctigon can sit on the flat of it and the diameter is near perfect so doesn’t look like a lot of work, so we shall see I hope.

Your quit welcome, well I’ve been sitting on this light since the day it arrived, the tint was terrible so thought I’d just change the LED and see how it goes, well not so easy so I discovered and so it has sat since then until today when I was reading about your knuckle lights and saw a link over to here where I discovered how to get that driver out, man alive it still wasn’t all that easy to do even with the info, but my plans are to do basically just what you’ve done but on a stainless and a brass that I have, the brass has a decent tint but I want to change drivers and LEDs in both mostly because the lights themselves are very well machined and really worth fixing or I’d have given them away by now.
Yes those plugs I found at the lumber store here called Home Depot are very interesting and brass, the one that really got my attention is a 3/4 inch plug which would be 19.05mm and it’s fairly smooth and flat,
I set a 20mm noctigon on it and it looked like a near perfect fit, they also had it in a 1/2 inch or 12.7mm,
I just went into my parts room for lack of anything else to call it, and I still luckily had one still in the package so got the name and Googled it up so you can take a look,

They do look promising to me, the size and length overall will fit in some lights that I had wished I had a pill for so this just might work, haven’t got around to trying it yet.

I must have maybe 50-100 magnetic switches up to 26650 size,
I used to sell E Cig devices and before all the electronics came into play all there was as far a vape devices was straight mechanical device, basically a tube of various metals, like copper which are my favorites and with a 510 screw in connector on one end and a magnetic switch or spring switch on the other and a cell in between, some are rather complex, other’s are just two magnets with reversed polarity magnets that slide up and down on a rod, but I’ve been sitting on these tubes and switches for some time now and just thinking about what kind of light I’m going to make out of them, someday… ha ha

Anyhow I got both DQG AA bezels off tonight so I will be at Mt. Electronics tomorrow picking up a couple drivers and mcpcb’s and then all is good to go thanks to you CRX.

Cool, thanks, those magnetic mods sound interesting, would be good if you come up with a light or two out of them.

Installing a new driver in these is a little more involved, not too easy as there is just enough room on the shelf for the noctigon and TIR so the driver would need to be installed under the shelf like I did then, there’s the wires etc.

I take it these are still made with the integrated LED/ PCB board.
So ideally you would need a driver in a press fitted brass ring or such to fit in there. Being honest I can’t quite remember what I did exactly but remember it was some hassle getting it all in there, should have taken more pics :slight_smile:
The contact plate in the tail will need to come out too to make room for the cell being pushed further back but luckily that unscrews too.
Best way to figure it out is to take it all to bits, play around with it and you’ll see what’s what or if I’m making sense or not :smiley:

Well crude, now I remember why I had all these e cig magnets sitting out, and switches, I flat out forgot what I was doing and it was talking with CRX about magnetic switches, wow, getting old or something.
I did sit down and put a threaded pill on the end of e cig tube with a magnetic switch and works just like a momentary, but goofed something on one and melted the spring, shorted it on the side of the tube I think.
I do have some really cool looking magnet switches that’s for sure.
Looking at the DQG AA where the magnet sits, like you did with drilling that out, these magnets look like washers and slide onto a rod with reverse polarity of course, so thinking of drilling and then get a few of those brass or copper caps the KD sells and put a rod into it with the magnets to slide on, then find a retainer to hold it all together maybe.
What I need to learn is re-threading, you can never hardly find a direct thread match, from lights to E Cig tubes like 20x1 is most common but then it’s all over the place in the e cig world of devices and in tube threading so would need to thread some sort of adapters, beats me, but sure glad I know why I had all these dumb magnets sitting around, thought I’d lost my mind and completely forgot about your awesome light here, sorry,
I should mail you a switch or two to see if you can make it work on something, but Scotland…? Wow, long was from here, I might as well be in China…
