Review = Navy K-628 Lock back Knife

Navy K-628

Overall Length = 7inches Open

Blade Length = 3inches

Type = Lock Back

Blade Type = 440c [ This may or may not be true depending on the source - some have claimed it to be Chinese MOV ]

It finally arrived , ordered well before Christmas , it didnt get here till the 29th , at least I didnt have to wait till next year .

My first Navy was the K-631 , and after getting it I thought it a little on the large side , and decided I wanted a smaller version .

The K-628 really hits the spot , its just the right size for a pocket - camp - utility knife . My sample is tight , and I mean tight , its going to take a lot of work and time for the blade to loosen up , and I actually like it like that . The build quality is excellent for the purchase price , the blade is thick and solid , well ground and finished . The lock is good and big , and square , locks up good and tight giving a really solid feel giving the user confidence in the knife .

Over all , no complaints , now the only niggle towards the negative , if it could be such , the clip is stiff , painfully so . So you know , the knife once clipped to a pocket etc is really going to hang on tight .

The blade on this one was sharp but not shaving sharp from the factory .

Im very impressed so far with this knife , its 99% what I wanted , and I dont know how it could be 100% , unless Navy was to do a K-628 D2 [ D2 Tools Steel Blade ] . Seriously , if it cost another 10-15 dollars , id pay that !

Great knife , if you want a decent cheap lock back , you really need to check out the Navy K-628

Great review and pics . Thanks .

Nice review, i like the jimping on the top blade, looks like one's thumb will get a good bite there. On new blades i like to put some teflon silicon spray at the joint then work it.

ya that's my knock against the various manufactures in china - never know what the steel is exactly.

but i have to say i find the steal from navy adequate along with the build quality , i assume its 8cr13mov but thats what i hate you never know. but anyrate its certainly good enough for general EDC. as for d2 steel i havent put mine to the test but it seems like a good bang for the buck ( least the price i paid for mine) and the reviews are good. mine is a fixed blade but the folders seem to cost a pretty penny.

thanks for the review - how do you like the oval vs the spidey hole for opening

Its fine , I have no issue with it
