I guess 1 Trustfire 26650 with protection does protect your other 1 or 2 unprotected cells like king kong in a dead short by a malfunctioning driver (worst case scenario). However still not recommended as the discharge would be mismatched, though i fail to see how the king kongs with so much capacity and current capability would be stressed. Not for the faint-hearted or those non-technically inclined.
3pcs of good 18650 like XTAR 2600s (nearly 2500mAh measured for cycled cells) are good enough and the slightly fatter tube does make the proportions better and more balanced, and very slightly enhances heat disspation as well compared to a 2 cell thin tubed flashlight designed for 18650s.
Of course. I’m just trying to minimize the risk while trying to keep my new King Kongs in circuit. I guess Trustfire’s would drop earlier so wouldn’t stress KingKongs with low voltage. Both were measured above 4000Mah while TFs are said to be more like 4000 and KKs 4500.
Ok, I'm in. My new years resolution for 2012 is to only buy neutral/warm, non blinky, 3-mode lights. So I figured I better get one more unrestrained purchase in before the big blinky ball descends.
Thanks for the info, again. :) Let's assume I have 2 protected and one unprotected cells. Where to put that naked (unprotected) cell? Place 1,2, or 3 counting from head.
I have two 4sevens protected cells, interestingly 3900 and 4000 mAh, I hope that does not matter.
OMG, dx has much lower price than all! I ordered from kd, then it came from mf, now from dx! At least the kd shipped fast, dx would ship in one month. But damn, i lost 19 dollars!
(1) 2 protected and 1 unprotected, i don't see any difference regarding the sequence of the cells placement.
(2) 4 Sevens protected, what i know is that one of them is specced for higher drain apps. Shouldn't be too much of an issue, but do try it out first in a safe place and see what happens, and of course measure them cells. :)
tomorrow. Hopefully I'll get some iPhone beamshots tonight if anyone's intrested :-)
89$ from KD, 5day shipping... DX would probably take 5weeks hehe
I'm at work right now so don't have much time trying to loosen the head completely but it appears to be a screw in and reflector feels glued in, couldn't unscrew it. Here's some pics(90m to wall):

Edit: yes beamshots have slightly different angles but had to move around for other trucks :-)
Btw using 3x trustfire flames 18650 2400mAh right now, my 26650 hasn't arrived yet. 18650 filler that was included works fine and it feels solid and of good quality.
