Did you order the custom BLF AA-Y4E?

Based on initial demand, I think. Actually the real question would be "How many is Manafont willing to order from Mrlite?". Mrlite will produce a minimum order of something like 20, or they can make thousands if someone orders them. As I mentioned elsewhere, the risk really falls on Manafont, because they are not doing the typical drop-shipping method of ordering from the manufacturer on-demand, but rather they actually purchased a batch of these from Mrlite, and now they have to sell them or else they lose out. This is an advantage for the customer because they ship within hours instead of waiting for days for the product to arrive from their supplier's warehouse, as DX does. Therefore it's a bit more risky for Manafont. But the good news is that I asked them how sales are going for the BLF AA-Y4E, and they were very happy with the initial response.

I'm in for a Black one. Still can't believe this light got done for $17. In the budget world this light is one of a kind without peer. The programmable Akoray-106 is a great light and has some advantages, but it does not have the low-low of the BLF.

Hey, admin, plz add "Waiting the review" option, or smth like that Tongue out

Done, good idea! Thanks.

Actually, I'm waiting for reviews from rzezniq and how2, both of whom "plan on buying a $500 Wolf Eyez flashlight from Neverbuying.com". You guys didn't think I would let you get away with clicking that option without suffering a public shaming, did you?

I'm paying in installments, I'll pay it off by 2050. That's when ill receive the light.

Additional comment from our friendy staff:

We are sorry that BLF AA-Y4E has became temporally unavailable due to overwhelming demand.

Second lot of BLF AA-Y4E are being manufactured. They will be shipped in about 1 week time.

Thank you very much for your understanding.

If these are so easy to make, I wonder if they can do 3-4-1-2 modes for next batch. I can't imagine people falling in love with flipping through all modes to get to high.

So, how about it, admin? Up to the challenge? There's nothing to lose by asking them to try my idea for the next bunch and we can let the reviewers decide which is best:

Ha, take that.... Ultrafire.... ;-)

It was me, I ordered 5. I'm so sorry for that.

Im in the wait too. Damn i thought i was fast enough... the first batch was more likely 30 black flashlights.

I did it for teh LOLZ :)!

I’m the opposite as I can’t imagine dealing with a full blast of high at night when I want low. I’m not certain if I use my highest mode or lowest mode the most in my lights (I suspesct I use the lowest more) but cycling from low to get to high (when needed) is much less of a nuisance to my eyes than dealing with full blast high when I want moonlight mode.

Same for me. I guess this light has outsold their expecatations. As Mr. Admin said, the company buys these lights in quantities and then sells them to us…my guess is that around 25 of each color was ordered and I wonder if silver is still available (I ordered Black).

I noticed this post just after I placed my order - is this a message you got when placing an order for one of these lights? There's nothing on the product page to indicate they're out of stock.

Cheers

Now the black one appears as "new arrival" today... probably means that the black one is again in stock?

Got an email saying it was out of stock ....

Sorry about the people getting a delay, but Congratulations to Mr. Admin for a successful product launch! I told my brother about the renegade band of budget flashlight enthusiasts teaming up with Chinese companies to get a custom light and he promptly went and bought a silver one. It's his first real flashlight purchase and his first one from a Chinese exporter. And this was my first Mr.Lite and my first order from Manafont, so it's win-win all around.

Thanks brted! This has been an interesting experience, and I think we got a great light out of it. This will also be my first Mrlite and my first purchase from Manafont. This is good news that it has temporarily sold out, (sorry to those who got left out in the cold for a week) because that means Manafont will probably be willing to do more custom mods with us in the future.

I am very pleased with the way they are handling their stock. The silver AA-Y4E is apparently out of stock now, and it's not currently listed in their catalog. Thank you Manafont for actually maintaining an inventory and not selling products you don't have to your customers. I've seen over at DX in multiple occasions that you have to read the customer comments below to know if the product is still available or not. Manafont is a refreshing change from that.

I'm the opposite as I can't imagine dealing with a full blast of high at night when I want low. I'm not certain if I use my highest mode or lowest mode the most in my lights (I suspesct I use the lowest more)

The lowest most chinese lights ever go is 10% of the brightest mode. The lowest and even low mode on these is supposedly much lower. I use the 10% modes when I need light inside boxes an arm's length away. Even in a dark room (2-3m+ distances), the low only illuminates enough to see where things are and hardly render details well. The mid mode on this light is already lower than on most, with supposedly 30% pwm or about 30lumens on a AA, similar to a few fauxtons, not that bright at all.

Also, if you're thinking of use low to "preserve night vision", hope is already lost. The only night vision preservable by non-red light unless we're talking barely visible beams is pupil dialation which is quick to adjust. Plus, in the rare circumstances where it's necessary, the very easy solution is turn it on with either your finger over the end or againt your body.

I do design myself, and the general principle to observe to is make the general case useful. Usefulness always trumps consistency or design philosophy.

I hear you my friend and we’re both just giving our personal preference. I didn’t expect to change your mind…I’m just pointing out that your preference doesn’t suit me in my practical uses.
Regardless of if nightvision is maintained, my eyes do hurt with bright light at night…I even dim the brightness of my iPhone screen at night to avoid the “pupil shock”. And since I’m more likely to use the lower modes on a daily basis, a high first light really doesn’t serve my purpose.
