Light diffuser material from Luminit

I’m subscribed to LED magazine and found this product mentioned. Diffuser film by a company called Luminit and as you can see from their website, they do a lot more than diffuser films.

They sent me a sample. The filter is quite opaque and reminds me of Zebralight diffused lens. Luminit claims “LSDs will achieve between 85% and 92% transmission efficiency”. The thickness of the film is .25mm.

I’d be happy to cut out a small square for anyone who wants to try it. If the feedback is positive, I could possibly buy a few large sheets to cut up into squares and mail out. I have no idea what the pricing is on these sheets, and I’d rather not have people here bombard them with sample requests. The sample looks promising to me. It turns this Acebeam EC 50 into a wall of light.

Here is a few pictures using an Acebeam EC50 GEN II flashlight.

How does it compare to DC fix? Does it come in different diffusing angles? I may be interested a sample…

I’ve never used DC fix, but this comes in many diffusing angles. This particular one is a 40 degree circular. They make them .5 degrees up to 100 degrees. They also make elliptical diffusers such as 60° x 10°

Circular: 0.5° to 100°
Elliptical: minor: 1° to 60° ; major: 10° to 80°

Light transmission efficiency
Circular: 0.2° to 20° ≥ 90% - 20° to 80° ≥ 85%
Elliptical ≥ 85%

Thanks mate this stuff looks cool. It must be better then using an old milk bottle lol.

Looks like very good stuff. But how does it stick on?

That would work great for a headlamp , er a headlamp with a reflector that is.

It’s a plastic sheet .25mm (.011”) thick. I pulled off the bezel and stuck it on top of the lens, and put the bezel back on. I’m talking to the sales engineer tomorrow morning, and one of my questions is if there is a “cling” type film available. This company makes all kinds of diffusers, lenses, and holographic films for heads up displays, etc…

very similar to the Zebralight diffuser like in this H600Fd MK III headlamp

Check out how diffused this Acebeam EC50 is in my back yard.

Whoa… cool stuff, hmm imagine if I put it on my TR-J18 with monster driver, extreme flood:D

Thanks for the heads up!

I would love a sample for my headlamps, that is where it really matters to me.

How do you get all your grass to grow white like that? Is it because of the diffuser?

What headlamp do you have that you can get the bezel and lens apart?

Robert, would you be willing to send me a couple square inches of the Luminit film?

I’ve got d-c-fix on some lights and would love to compare it to this stuff. I can post some comparison photos.

I use a vinyl cutter and the computer to cut perfectly sized circles. It will cut up to 0.8mm material so it should work with the Luminit film.

If you let me know what sizes you need I can send you some circles of d-c-fix, maximum 3-1/2” diameter.

I can send you a 1.75 x 2.25 piece. Will that work? You have to promise to post your “before and after” results here. Deal?

Thanks for the DC fix offer, but I’m fine with this. If I end up buying a bunch of sheets of this, I might hit you up to cut them. Had a nice discussion with the engineer today, and waiting on pricing. Hopefully it won’t be too horribly expensive. The full sheets are 22” x 22”. The way he explained it to me is, these are holographic 2 layer sheets.

PM me your address

Deal! PM sent. :+1:

Thanks for the sample! It arrived today. The holographic nature is interesting… I put it up to just a couple lights to test, but It is far superior to dcfix at first glance. Very smooth and very efficient. It’s pushing me on to get my butt moving on a long outstanding RGBW build i e been working on. Any response to your pricing requests?

I emailed him this morning, but haven’t heard anything yet. Trying to get a few more samples of the 10,20, and 30° film diffusers. He was supposed to email me pricing today. Going to call him tomorrow.

Was hoping to get this figured out before going on vacation. Feb 9th thru the 19th. Scott (goshdogit) just received a sample and is going to see if he can cut the film on a vinyl cutter.

do you have a lux tester? im curious to know which diffuser eats up more of the lumens.
