Your pocket/keychain flashlight?

So what is the flashlight you carry in your pocket and/or on your keychain?

keychain: Jetbeam Mini-1
Pocket: Manker T01, Utorch UT01

  • Is it a AA or AAA or lion? Mini-1: 10180 Li-Ion T01: IMR14500 UT01: 14500
  • Why’d you choose that one? Mini-1: Tons of light in a very small, rechargeable package (130Lm on max). T01: Compact thrower, nice UI w/ good modes. UT01: Compact flooder, common UI with T01. Both can also run AA.
  • How long have you been carrying it? Mini-1: 9 months. T01: 6 months UT01: 6 weeks.
  • How often do you use it? Mini-1: Rarely. Only when occasion prohibits the others. T01: Occasionally. Few times a month. UT01: Every work day.
  • How’s it working for you? Great, Happy with what I carry and how I carry it. Rarely need to go to my pack for a big light.
  • How’s the wear-n-tear on the finish? Mini-1 is SS, very little wear. Others are in separate pockets, so they don’t get banged up. I don’t really care, just want to know exactly where they are.
  • Do you carry more than one? Yes. Keychain, pocket thrower, pocket flooder

Soon the Mini-1 will be replaced by a Mini-1 Ti. Freeme’s got a killer deal that expires soon. I’m upgrading because the Mini-1 Ti has a 2 way clip that I can use with a ballcap for an impromptu headlamp.

Oh, have a Maratac TFP AAA on my placket of my shirt. Makes for a nice hands free light, personal flood. Not very tactical.

Nice poll. A lot of interesting answers.

I was very torn between the Utorch UT01 and the On the Road M3. I went back and forth on which one to order. They’re on special right now so they’re only $3 apart in price. I finally decided on the OTR M3 since it is slightly smaller, has the low power warning and the magnatized tail. And the run times are listed as being a bit longer. We’ll see how it does when it arrives.

I still have the Fenix E05 but have put it on the keychain with my vehicle keys. I have the Thrunite TiS on my ‘survival’ keychain along with the peanut lighter and SAK.

I have the OTR M3 also. Also OLight S1, S10RII, and a few other 16340/CR123A lights. The reason I opted for the Manker and UTorch was for AA compatibility. The UT01 is surprising small. It’s very close to the Jet-1. Slimmer than the 16340 lights, too.

Honestly, there are so many good lights out there and I’m barely scratching the surface. LOL And they keep making newer, brighter and better ones. Worse than a drug addiction. Or is it better?

  • Is it a AA or AAA or lion? Li-ion? Varies between single cell: 16340, 14500, 18350, 18500 or 18650
  • Why’d you choose that one? my pocket EDC varies depending on mood, what I just got or what I just modded.
  • How long have you been carrying it? varies. But I change pocket lights often depending on mood. I might carry a light for 3 days, then put it aside for a different light, then go back to the first light for a week.
  • How often do you use it? I probably use my EDC light at least a couple times each day. Usually for very brief periods.
  • How’s it working for you? Works great
  • How’s the wear-n-tear on the finish? Depends on the light. Lights with HAIII anodizing, bare aluminum, or bare titanium tend to look great. Lights with cheaper anodizing tend to look like crap (I carry my light in the same pocket as my keys).
  • Do you carry more than one? Nope just one.

Alright, 2 years later and it’s time for an update, methinks :crown:

  • Current EDC is a TN12 (now in CW) at the same spot, a T10 in the right pocket near the cell phone (chest pocket when I’m wearing a shirt with one), and a Ti3 (NW this time, got another one) on the undershirt as before.
  • Is it a AA or AAA or li-ion? The TN12 is li-ion, The Ti3 is AAA, the T10 is AA.
  • Why’d you choose that one? The TN12 because it’s the powerhouse that’s there when called, the T10 because it’s the perfect compromise between compact-ness and runtime, and the Ti3 because I like a backup to my backup.
  • How long have you been carrying it? The TN12 for about a year and a half, the Ti3 for two, and the T10 is bordering on four months.
  • How often do you use it? All the time. The TN12 gets lit for a few minutes every night as I get close to home (many empty lots full of weeds, drug problems not far like in any big city, and a history of BnE’s in the district that could scale up to straight up robbery – not taking my chances, I’m lamping the heck out of any place that could hide a perp - though I could use an L6 for that), the T10 when it’s practical to have floody light at one click, and the Ti3 whenever I wanna do something while appreciating its beautiful tint
  • How’s it working for you? Wonderfully! :+1: I have light at anytime I want for pretty much any circumstances imaginable for EDC, and three choices of pleasantly-tinted light at that :sunglasses:
  • How’s the wear-n-tear on the finish? Not terrible. The tails of the TN12 and T10 are discolored on the very edges of the scallops from a few unfortunate drops, the T10’s clip is bleached where it hugs the body of the light, and the Ti3 has lost the anodizing on the outer rim of both bezel and tail (and a bit on the clip too) plus the bezel has a minimally flattened spot where it fell from over two meters (wow, this thing is tough). Overall, you can look at my torches and say they’re definitely used, just not every single day.
  • Do you carry more than one? 1, 2, 3… look ma, I can count! Just kidding. But I do have more than these on my kit as a whole: I have an Olight S2 Baton that currently rides on the shoulder strap of my backpack, an S1 Baton that’s pretty much permanently attached to my ball cap as a headlamp, and a Convoy C8 (7135x8 with an XM-L2 T6 4C on OP reflector) that goes on a pocket in said backpack as a “car light” that I don’t leave in my car. I swear I’m more jealous of that torch than my car as a whole :stuck_out_tongue:

ADDENDUM: If anyone’s wondering about the E01 from last update, I have a cousin that’s very likely making great use of it. Smart girl and a budding flashaholic, so gotta put in the incentive there

It has been a couple years since I saw this thread. My favorites have changed a bit.

  • Keychain light: Cooyoo Quantum SS
  • Necklace: DQG Fairy
  • EDC: Olight S Mini

Those are the smallest ones I use often, but there are a whole lot of others which get frequent use. They’re just … bigger, and mostly modded.

For extended use, 1x18650 lights are generally where it’s at.

What I like about this thread is, it confirms that I’m not alone. I might still be crazy, but I’m not the only one.

This right here.

Is it a AA or AAA or lion?
AAA and Li-Ion

Why’d you choose that one?
No specific reason, just carry them

How long have you been carrying it?
About 1-2 years

How often do you use it?
Quite often, when I forgot to carry my main flashlight

How’s it working for you?
Pretty good.

How’s the wear-n-tear on the finish?
Full of battle scars

Do you carry more than one?
SURE!

I usually carry two, one in my pocket and one as a keychain

Jetbeam Mini 1 10180 is always with my keys, it’s so small so you can’t notice you’re carrying with it. The light is made in stainless Steel and it doesn’t have any scracthes. I’ve been carrying it for a year and helped me a lot in many situations.

But at 130 lumens it has a very short runtime so I need another bigger flashlight for my daily needs. I consider the Jetbeam mini 1 as a emergency light

In my pocket (the small pocket we all have in the right side of our jeans), I always carry my beloved Olight S1A with a Sanyo 840mAh UR14500P, I did swap the emiter for a warmer tint and for 8 months it’s been my favourite EDC: powerful (600lm), moonlight mode, great UI, side switch, lovely beam due to the TIR lens, small size and magnet in the tail. 8 months in my pocket and it looks brand new without scratches, because I always make sure I don’t put it with the keys.

Still in one piece but sure its not good look like new.

Do you carry more than one?
Yes that why we at here.

Nitecore Tube and Atrolux A01(Convoy Tiny) always with my car key

Or

Nitecore Tip

Lumintop tool on my keychain backing up my Blf a6 in my left pant pocket

Copper w N219b, Astrolux M03, comes w 10180 and charger, on keys, only high mode is reliable
Copper w N219b, Worm head on Maratac, AAA Eneloop, in pocket. For EDC I like Medium first, its what I use most.

I have sale codes for the Tool, Worm and Astrolux, pm if you cant find them.

I don’t have a keychain light. Instead I have a Photon Freedom on a leather necklace; a Photon of one edition or another has lived around my neck for over 20 years or so, I guess.

In my front left jeans pocket - on a 2-way lanyard - I carry an Olight i3s with an Eneloop in it, and in the coin flap of the right hand pocket I stash a Nitecore TIP v2. To be honest I find the TIP awkward in real-time use with that lockout system, but I love having 350 lumens on me that takes up no space.

Evenings I add an S2+ shorty to the armoury for doing stuff out in the real dark with chickens, dogs, firewood and the occasional zombie.

If I go walking with the dogs after dark then I’ll have another dozen lights stashed in pockets and so on. Makes sense to me. Right? What’s the point of having weapons to fight the dark with if you don’t use them?

Yeah, thinking I might have jumped the gun too early ordering the JETBeam Mini-1 Ti. That Nitecore Tip is looking mighty nice with it’s 360 lumens and now that they’ve worked out the electronic lock-out…

As I mentioned in another thread, GB screwed up another order (third in a row) so the OTR M3 is no longer coming. That’s fine. I like the S2+ quite a bit and have several of them and given several to family. Thinking I’d be just a well off, if not better by getting a dedicated S2+ and 18350 tube to carry it in the shorter format. That way I can use an 18650, 18350 or 16340.

I carry two most of the time, a lumintop tool, and an Eagle Eye A/X6 triple. The Lumintop is a stock old 2 mode light with a Ni-MH. The EE is an A6 head with a X6 body a MTN FET+1 driver with a modified version of ToyKeeper’s cypreus2 code(lots of hidden blinkey modes) Domed XPL’s with a optic modded for clearance and a custom copper spacer.

Why’d you choose that one? The Tool I got from 246’s 100th post giveaway. The EE X/A6 I build when the group buy for the BLF A6 was getting started I bought a stock EE A6 to figure out what the spacer would need to be for a triple I thought I’d could some extra and sell them when the lights started to arrive, after cut the one for my light I found out that one of the convoy spacers Richard sells is a perfect fit so I never made any for resale.

How long have you been carrying it? Almost 3 years for both.

How often do you use it? The EE is used every day I need to charge it weekly. The Tool isn’t used as often.

How’s it working for you? Both are working good, I have bought more lights and swapped these two out but I keep going back to them.

How’s the wear-n-tear on the finish? Finish what finish?

Do you carry more than one? yes

That was my thinking. I have a dedicated 18650 S2+ and a shorty with a long tube if needs be. I think the shorty makes for a fine, fine light (easy enough to put another 18350 in pocket with caps on for reserve power). There is something about the weight, length and feel - can’t describe it. I’ll be turning one of the S2+ I have into a triple soon for something different.

If you’re in FL, why not order your Convoys from Mountain Electronics? My last order from them was a revelation. The two lights I received both had tail switches that worked as advertised (instead of the multiple clicks needed for the Chinese ones), the threads were lubed and I’m pretty sure someone had actually looked at the lights before shipping. Given the chance I’ll pay the premium (even here in Europe) and order from them again when it comes to Convoys - they’ll get here quicker and I know they’ll work correctly.

So what is the flashlight you carry in your pocket and/or on your keychain?

Astrolux A01

  • Is it a AA or AAA or lion?
    AAA
  • Why’d you choose that one?
Small size. I just love the diminutive size of the A01. I tried carrying an L3 Illumination L11C Nichia 219B (4 mode), but found that AA was larger than I liked. I did not want to get anything smaller than AAA because batteries become more exotic at that point. I also carried an AAA-fueled BLF-348 for a while before switching to the smaller A01.
  • How long have you been carrying it?
Ever since it was released about a year ago. It rides below my wallet in my front pants pocket. It practically disappears.
  • How often do you use it?
    4 or 5 days out of 7.
  • How’s it working for you?
Great. Never had any problems. The Nichia 219B tint is wonderful.
  • How’s the wear-n-tear on the finish?
It's in mint condition, but only because I carry my keys and coins in a different pocket than my flashlight.
  • Do you carry more than one?
Not on my person. In my daypack, however, I carry a ZebraLight SC62w and a Nitecore Tube. I also have a few lights in my vehicle.
