Review:No name USB charging nice quality flashlight

Does gearbest sell what is needed to swap in a legit XM-L2 ? possibly ?: http://www.gearbest.com/diy-parts-and-tools/pp_142215.html?wid=21

Wow! Really interesting, but a tad bummer the brightness ramp-down is awfully fast. Nice host for a 219C R9050 emitter swap. :-D

An Ultraturd blue! LoL!

Cheers ^:)

I have 4 of them. Excellent little light for $12.

wstrachan, could you post some pics of the driver? Preferably good closeups with macro if available. Is it easily moddable? Raising the driving current, that is.

Cheers ^:)

2 arrived with me today :+1:
A good little light for the money with nice features like the battery status via the illuminated mode switch & on board USB charging.
I like the ramping UI.
USB charging is OK also with the lap top pulls I put in them coming out at bang on 4.20v before settling to a resting voltage of 4.16v a couple of hours later (with better cells, these lap top pulls have seen a lot of use, resting voltage may well be better).
The claim in the review of 550 OTF lumens looks about right, with the tint being cool but no hint of blue/green/purple as I have seen with other fake Cree leds I have (yes they are not Cree  ).
They have a reasonable sized hot spot with a bit of spill.
The supplied 3000mah “crapfire” cells are in my Lii-500 now having a capacity test done but based on the very high resistance shown of 125 & 72 which are much higher than any cell I have I don”t expect to much.
In fact the test has just ended whilst I type & the 72 resistance cell shows 1212mah & the 125 resistance cell 1194mah :person_facepalming:
Unsurprising really & these cells will be off to the recycle bin
All in all I am happy with the performance, quality & features for the price :+1:

Ah good to hear BH (forgot all about this lol, do funny if one forgets and then unpacks, like… “Hmm wut… Ah oh yes”

No. This is a fake Cree. The same as in this flashlight (LatticeBright XM2).

No offense to anyone who likes this light, but I think for ~15bux the UltraFire DV-S9 kicks its ass.

Diving light, magnetic switch (slider), you set the brightness like a wall-mounted dimmer switch to whatever brightness you want. As in instantly, no ramping up/down or anything. Want “turbo”, slide it all the way. Want almost-moonlight, just give it a small nudge. Damn, I love that…

It takes a 26650 (comes with a sleeve to take an 18650), is a rather beautiful deep indigo color, and is waterproof (being a diving light, well, duh).

I’m still waiting for my second one, as I liked the first so much I had to get a spare.

As for this unnamed critter, it sounds really nice and I’d probably get 1/more if (going on what other people said here):

NO STROBE (like seriously, why does every light have to have that accursed mode?!?)

• brightness memory

but the really nice options are:

• built-in charger (just in case)

• red/green indicator

so I’d be tempted, but…

UltraFire DV-S9 ………… :person_facepalming: :person_facepalming:
Oh noooooo……… more temptation and very little resolve to resist. :open_mouth: … :person_facepalming:

Thanks for sharing that one ‘Lightbringer’!!! It takes 26650’s also and I can always use another home for one of those.

But as far as you calling the light in this thread an “unnamed critter”, I must in good conscience inform you that back in This Post in the thread of his review of the light…… NikolaS did indeed name the light.

It was christened “CFG01 Cheap, fake and good”…………

Duly named & referred to thereafter for all eternity…… as the “CFG01”………… :stuck_out_tongue: :+1: …

Just FYI of course……………………

Thanks again for the heads up on the DV-S9. :+1:

Yah, I read about the “CFG01”. I was just going by GB’s “name” for it.

No worries about the DV-S9. I posted a “review” or whatever a while ago here. I was floored when I got it, as it really surpassed all my expectations. And even though the temp’s on the cooler side, it’s nowhere near Angry Blue™, but is a rather nice(ish) color.

And I love the slider. 10mA parasitic, so yeah, do a TCLO when you’re not using it. ¼-turn is plenty.

Here ya go, found it…

I got mine from FT, with discount code “BLF”, so I paid, what?, 5? 10?, less than the list price, so the deal was that much sweeter.

I hear ya’ Lightbringer………. :+1: …
Thanks for mentioning the tint on the DV-S9 too. I had meant to ask but forgot. As long at it not “Angry Blue™” I am good with it. I like tints on the cooler side myself. :+1:

Thanks again ……….

No worries. Was just shining it around, but it’s kinda hard to guesstimate in a vacuum the “exact” CT/tint. I usually compare with more or less “known” LEDs/lights.

As long as it ain’t green, either. Man, that’s an ugly tint…

OK, OK, OK….

…gotta have me one of those Ultrafire DV-S9 lights, too! Man, I’m glad I don’t build or collect cars as a hobby!

I just confirmed 5% off with BLF code through FastTech, in case anyone else will be “diving” into this one!

EDIT: Thanks, Lightbringer, for pointing out this interesting light - I, too, like the 26650 format

No worries. I had an unused 26650 that needed a home, so…

Enjoy!

I understand that on the tint and I totally agree with you on the “green”! I can;’t stand that, I rather have blue. :person_facepalming: And I don’t like blue either………

+1 to all of this!!!
Especially the part about building or collecting cars………… :person_facepalming: … :money_mouth_face:

Good links and info! Thanks again Lightbringer………… :+1:

No worries. (Sorry for almost hijacking the thread, but I really like the ’S9.)

I posted this on the other thread about this light :frowning:
“I have read Zeroair“s review of this light over on Reddit & although not disagreeing with his opinion of this light my opinion is that he is a little harsh on it.
At the end of the day it is a $10 dollar light with built in USB charging, & an illuminated switch that shows cell status & charging status.
It always turns on in high then ramps down to it“s lowest setting, flashes, then ramps back up to high, flashes, ramps back down to low.
At any point you click it off then back on & it will be in high.
My 2 don“t have to bad a tint or beam.
For what I want to use them for for they are ideal (actually they are mainly for my wife to use)
Yes they are cheaply made, yes the emitter is fake & yes the lumen claim is false but at the end of the day they are about $10.
Now you could get say an S2 for similar money ( I have a couple) which is a better made/quality light but does not have the features this light has & to me (especially my wife) these features are handy.
My 2 cents worth

Or you can get one of those Boruit headlamps for <10bux and just take off the head-strap.

Okay, you might have to hold it funny, but it’s a nice little critter!

(Hmmm, actually, that ain’t a bad idea.)
