The SJ4000 is a high resolution action camera comparable to the GoPro Hero....at a significantly more attractive price. I have 4 of them. They are very popular and there is a vast array of replacement and aftermarket (high capacity) batteries available for them. They are 3.7v, LiIo
So recently I bought a few of the "high cap" versions off ebay claimed to be 1000mAh and was very interested to know exactly what the capacity of these high capacity batteries actually was since I paid a premium for them. The standard OEM batteries are 900mAh rated.
Since there is no way to do this with the camera, I designed and printed a fixture that slips over the SJ4000 battery and makes secure contact with two wires which I can then connect to my Turnigy Accucell 6 to accurately test the capacity. What I found was interesting....and disappointing.
Their feedback rating was very good so I purchased two EforTek batteries along with a charger for about $19.00
Upon making my adapter fixture and testing the batteries the result for battery 1 was 930mAh and for the 2nd battery only 830mAh (not even up to par with a standard OEM battery. Neither reached the advertised 1000mAh capacity. If I hadn't made the test rig and tested them I would not have known. At this point I can at least return them for a refund.
If you own an SJ4000,SJ5000,SJ6000,Geekpro,DBPOWER, or Gookit they all use the same battery
I will be purchasing high cap batteries from an alternate source after returning these. If I find a vendor who sells true Hi-Capacity SJCAM batteries I will post that back here later.
Next time go with Wasabi Power batteries. They are just 900mah but they will be true to rating and have 3 year warranty. I have some for GoPro that are over 5 years old and outlasted oem GoPro batteries and have only lost 10% capacity. Wasabi Power are very popular brand for aftermarket camera batteries.
I have two younger kids (8 and 4-1/2) so I figure something like this to play with in the water during the summers will be fun. Maybe in the snow, as well.
I’ve done tests on a number of different OEM replacement batteries for both camera and cell phones. I cobbled together an arrangement to charge/discharge them on the AC-6 like you did, though not so elegant.
So far I haven’t found any that were as good as stock, though they generally were WAY cheaper. A few made it almost to 80-90, most were 50-60, occasionally there were duds. :confounded: I suggest you do test your used/stock battery. I found several of mine that were still significantly better after 2-3 years use than the new replacements. That’s pretty telling.
I’ve found you can’t use the reviews at all unless you stumble on someone with the knowledge and equipment to make a test like you did, which is VERY VERY rare. People either don’t have a clue, or it’s kind of “these are great vs. these suck”. They really don’t KNOW, they are guessing based on their anecdotal experience and use pattern, which is likely all over the map. Kind of like some people love [Ultrafires] since they actually do work in their light awhile. :person_facepalming:
With supporting pictures I have been able to get refunds IF I bothered. I’d sure like to know a reliable source for replacement batteries that don’t suck.

Re: Wasabi batteries - I just checked that brand for my Canon SX280. Stock cell is 1000mA. Wasabi claims to be 1300mA. My experience is the bigger the claim, the bigger the lie. I actually bought an Ansmann only claiming 750mA hoping a known brand name and a modest claim would actually be valid……NOT! They were ~660mA.
A couple of reasonable tests conducted on Amazon seemed to indicate this was true for THAT CANON battery. I doubt they make them, so different models could well show different results.

These cells are much cheaper than Canon’s and seem fine mechanically, but don’t expect 1300 mAh. The actual discharge curves, measured into a 20.1-ohm resistor, showed the capacity to be about 780 mAh (using Wasabi’s charger). Both cells gave very similar results; a couple of charge/discharge cycles made no significant difference.
Couldn't agree more. And BTW, I did test the OEM batteries and guess what? Just as you said, they tested higher capacity than my new "high capacity" batteries.
I forgot who, but another member suggested I try Wassabi Japanese batteries so I ordered those and will return these. Rest assured, the firt thing I will do when they arrive is run a few cycles and check the capacity.
Just added to my post when I checked out those Wasabi for possible purchase. I may buy, but I’m not much encouraged. They seem like more of the same BS.
I have had an SJ4000 WiFi for a year now & paid about $45 for it on a deal with 3 batteries & 2 chargers.
I have been very impressed with it for the money :+1:
I use them on sport vehicles, my drones, my motorcycles etc.
Very good camera. I paid about $60 for each one and honestly……I rarely use my $300.00+ GoPro anymore.
I use mine on my boat when fishing to make short videos of catches
I needed a water proof camera & when I saw how much the GoPro”s were I thought I would get one of these SJ 4000”s & see how I got on with it before splashing out hundreds of dollars on a GoPro.
I have been so pleased with it I never bothered getting a GoPro :+1:
One thing I would say to anyone thinking of getting an SJ is to do some research first before buying so that you can tell the difference between an SJ & the far inferior clone versions of it that are out there so that you do end up with an SJ.
The SJ is obviously a clone of the GoPro but if you read the many reviews there is little difference between it & a GoPro but the clones of the SJ are nowhere near as good
Today I received the Wasabi Power SJ4000 Batteries and charger.
For reference, the Wasabi batteries weigh in at 20 grams……IR = 202milli-ohms
They’re on the charger now and once charged I’ll run a discharge test on them to see how they do. Hoping for a good outcome here.
On a side note about the other SJ4000 batteries, the seller of those batteries candys-outlet-store, was very cooperative and helpful with the return of the EforTek batteries and charger.
Maybe in the snow, as well.
