Review - COB flashlight - Big L@rry clone Silver version

It’s time I jump on the review band wagon, so here is my review of a clone of Big L@rry - silver version

This pic is clickable if you want to zoom in

I think this was one of my very first COB lights, and it is kind of neat.
A Very well built work light or a flood light, sleek looking, hefty with excellent grip and with tons of features.

Body is a solid construction using anodized aluminum, and lense is plastic, pretty sturdy though
It serves well as a work light and excellent flood light that covers almost 180 degrees.

–400 Lumens on High – runtime 4.5hrs
-great battery life on Low uses 3xAA 160 Lum 15 hr runtime
-Red strobe
-Length7.9 in
–7.5 oz
-Excellent tailstand,

A very strong tail magnet- you can leave it on top of your car, and that thing will stay put while driving -Kojak’s style

Easy to push rubber button is recessed so no worries about accidental turning ON

The light survived a 10 feet drop :+1:

The clip is very strong and you can also hang it on the wall.
You can also clip it to your belt and see where you walking at night, it is very bright.

Some COOL PWM effects:

Tried to take a picture of the Red COB LED’s strobe:

Video review coming soon!!!

The manufacturer’s website lists MSRP $19.99 but I got it for $5 locally

Fixed the images, so hope it’s a half decent review :disappointed:

okay… i can dig it.

I was never a “cob kind of guy” but… my neighbor has basically a (rechargeable) light plastic body version of this review, very similar, just not made to mil specs.

after spending several afternoons in his automotive garage? I started to LIKE his work light. Its “perfect” for in-the-garage working.

then my parents died? in the course of taking little stuff after the last parent passed? DAD had basically the exact same light as the neighors. Rechargeable plastic version of this light you review.

I NOW realize, that since i am not an automotive mechanic? i wasnt privvy to the special “needs” and “wants” of an automotive work light… and i feel silly now in hindsight, because i have spent my time working on MY car once a year? cussing out a flashight i otherwise loved, finding little “places” to hold it and aim it on what i was working on (wheelwells are rough, lol)

my only “complaint” with my neighbors lite and now inheriting dads same light? was… they are a little “chintzy”, they wont survive being dropped and kicked around. THIS light, with the exception of rechargeability? is the same light, but, in a heavy duty metal casing.

so, i enjoyed the review? and it reminded me how much i like the neighbors and dads work light… how it fills specific functions in a way no “regular flashlight” ever could. It ALSO jogs my memory?? that DAD’s inherited light? came to me withOUT the needed 110v charging transformer, and, i need to MOD dads light to fix this, or, i am going to lose dads light, and it has great sentimental value.

curiously? you ALSO jogged my memory that my neighbors light? is his replacement for his “other” similar light… and HE lost HIS charging transformer, and wants someone to make him one.

plus, i might have to machine up a indestructible thick walled metal tube, to see about transferring the “guts” of a plastic light like this, into the “milspec” housing.

==

so, i enjoyed this more than i thought i would. Thanks!

I don’t understand what you mean with red strobe (?)

Hi Jerommel,
sorry for the confusion. Will try to finish the video review in couple days so you can see it in action.

Basicaly, the strobe is using the RED LED’s, just one line of COB’s.
So you can use it is a RED strobe warning light.

sorry about your parent, hope you find a way to cope with the loss using your dad’s flashlight.

This work light is really neat, and it feels much sturdier that other so called “Mil spec” lights.

sounds like a good project machining an indestructible body. I am planning to use rechargeable batteries as well when I run out of my stash. So looking forward hearing more.

O, i see, so it’s a special COB with white emitters and red emitters in one?

Yes, isn’t that a cool toy?

Yes, and interesting too if you want to mix some red into the white light which usually lacks red.
…but that would mean a different driver probably…

I like the solid body durability; that’s why I never bought an original. I try to not be too rough on things, but excrement occurs and a busted light when you really need it is as sucky as things can get :rage:

A link to the seller’s page would be nice

Phil

ok will look for the link, I think I posted it a few weeks ago.

Hi Phil,

I bought several 2 packs like these from a local store last year during the Black Friday sales and they have been very useful lights. I gave most of them away as gifts. Wish I had bought more!

Thanks for the review and info. Would be nice to see more lights like these powered by a single 18650.

You are welcome.
