not to be a jerk, but probably because he's busy shipping lights for people that have paid
judging from the drivers that are offered on his site, the no step down is also 700 pwm
based on comments from owners, I don't care which battery carrier I get...the plastic will accommodate a slightly larger battery, the metal is a little 'nicer'
unprotected is recommended because the turbo version tries to draw 5A from each battery, which will trip some protection circuits. also, the longest of protected cells won't fit in a metal battery carrier.
no, he's not selling step down only...specify version B for no step down, as stated in his post
Not to be jerk back but if he is busy shipping out ,I paid btw , how come no confirmations but one r posted? Also u assume both r 700? with 3x18560 those bigger ones can’t be no more than a few minutes to runtime , I rather have metal for durability personally, plus I don’t want a fourth different style battery to keep up with;) I’m thinking non step-down is older version no difference;)
Also why get non step down when he says don’t run it past 20sec. Lol oh ok imam go a minute just to see if I’m lucky? Lol. I’m kidding with ya btw
While you are waiting for a reply from Ric ( I am as well), take it from the many people here on BLF, that Ric is a good guy with good service and he will strive to keep a good reputation. From what I've heard, he is somewhat of a one-man-show with cnqualitygoods so I can see him being very busy with this overwhelming demand.
I’m definitely trusting ,I already paid , just felt the ones asking questions aren’t getting there answers , I’m excited and know what I’m getting other than battery carrier but just was trying to get those questions people asked several times answered for them , hek I bought from dd and tmart before reading the bad things so I’m no worried at all about vic lol
Thanks for your comforting wisdom
I believe that you are correct (it would be my best guess anyway) that unprotected cells are recommended due to the high current draw not being compatible with all protection circuits. As such, I would presume that cells with a protection circuit that could handle a high enough current could be used. It would be nice to get confirmation on that though. Be a shame to buy some high current capable cells only to find that this was still an issue.
If unprotected cells were a necessity (or it's just what people chose to use anyway), it would also be nice to know if there were a low battery warning. I'm aware of li-ion safety issues, but as a result of having had encephalitis, my memory is rubbish, I am easily distracted and lose track of time. As such, when using unprotected cells, I feel much happier if I know when the batteries are low.
No disrespect to Ric - I greatly appreciate him offering this deal and am sure he is indeed busy (who isn't? Modern life tends to suck that way) - but it would really help me know if this was a light that I could trust myself with if I could get confirmation on whether (appropriately spec'ed) protected cells could be used, or if there were a low battery warning. Otherwise, with my memory issues, it would probably be most sensible to give it a miss.
I have been using the Tenergy 2600 protected cells in my Turbo and have run it pretty hard with no problems. Awesome light. I have the plastic carrier though.
yeah, i agree, a confirmation on the questions would be nice.
I do place a lot of value on responsiveness (ie, will pay higher prices or wait longer for shipping).
If cnqualitygoods had responded to my question about their double ended light, I would have bought one (even if I didn't like the answers), but instead I lost interest.
Anyway - I want the no step down version because I live in a place that is pretty cold much of the year. Lowest temperature I have camped in was -19F (-28C) (and that was the temp in nearest town...I'm sure it was colder where I was). Those kind of temps must give you a bit more room on that 20 second run time suggestion...
Also, if I find myself in a room full of zombies, and I have the DRY, but not my AK-47, I can turn the light on turbo, exit and barricade the door.
I totally forgot about the inexpensive Tenergy cells on ebay. So you're able to use them fine without modifying (flat top)? I see from HKJ's tests they have a max discharge of ~3.9A. I wonder if that is enough for this Turbo driver. Also, it's still hard to not be skeptical of the origins or these batteries. Considering price and the reports of dead cells or low capacity, it makes you wonder.
Well, it doesn't appear the ebay Tenergy 2600 seller currently has any protected cells available. Of course! I might shoot him a message asking if he might have any around to sell me AFTER he responds to the questions I already sent him. Maybe it's a sign I'm not supposed to have these for this light
I just paid for CW Version A (PayPal 7V636988VT343181A). I have one already, but want another for a friend who also loves lights and will be blown away once he sees it!
Perhaps that's at least partially just in order to make sure to get a Dry as long as the "current stock" lasts (if such a stock exists) even if you're not within the first 30 in the queue... Pay first get the light delivered first you know.
