Flashaholics Anonymous: The Flashlight Purchase Refusal Kudos Thread

I’m a bad flashaholic. For the first time in ages, I left the house for a quick mid-day errand without any of my custom-built lights, and I ended up needing my Cypreus. I ran into someone who was really interested in flashlights but I had nothing to show off. He’ll probably end up on BLF regardless, but still. Would have been better if I could show what it actually looks like to have 3000 lumens in the palm of your hand.

Kind of embarrassing really. I was ready to have an epic moment where I’d be like…
Behold! The wondrous rod of light!

But I reached in my purse and it wasn’t there.

Every time I come across this thread and vow “this is my last light for a while I accidentally click on the for sale thread and buy something

Oh, nuts… okay. i resisted the urge to buy a “real laser” again…. I mean, I remember when a couple hundred mA laser? mean you were a cut above? You almost need to get over a full WATT now to be considered more than “someone who plays with the cats”

of course when you dont BUY something, that just makes it more appealing to learn to MAKE one, lol…

Just followed a thread on an airrifle site about flashlights two weeks ago.
Someone recommend the Blf A6 with Panasonic 18650 and a Nitecore
D2. Okay, I use it for my work during surveiilance, so it’s a legitiment buy.
I need also a nice holster for it….there are now 6 flashlights with different purpose on their way, incl. holsters and al kinds of batteries that’s will fit the D2. I really try to calm down and first overview - like the man with one gun - but time is running out on the coupons and subscribed for 2 GB….don’t want to miss good deals, so I tell myself ’for that price, I can’t resist and it’s logical to purcase. My girlfriend already has give me a nickname - lampie -
But now she wants also their own flashlight, carried beside her Mora survival (pink) knive for the summer holiday in Sweden in the bush, so everybody is happy

De-nile… is a river in Egypt, lmFao…

Well, I’ve been pretty good. I haven’t bought a new flashlight in a couple months! And the one I bought then was a cheapie from Lowe’s, so it doesn’t count.

I’ll be good too this month, because i have spent all… :person_facepalming:

I haven’t modified a flashlight all week :innocent:

Does this count? I just deleted a flashlight from my KD shopping cart… (It was a cheap AA-sized host)

(of course, the only reason I removed it was because it’s become not-available since I added it so I can’t purchase it anyway…)

If I go a month without buying a flashlight… What do i Win??

I hope it’s a Flashlight.

I sold ONE, does that cancel out One purchase?
If I buy them as Hosts do they count? It’s not a working light….

I need the the rule book on this so I can find loop holes.

From the OP:

Looks like all you win after a month of not making any flashlight related purchases is… another month of not making any flashlight related purchases!

Here’s the “loophole” I’d suggest making for yourself: after every consecutive month of not buying anything flashlight related, give your self $$$ credit to spend when you inevitably do make a flashlight related purchase again. So, it’s like the lottery. Each time around that nobody gets the jackpot, the prize amount goes up! :money_mouth_face:

Excellent solutions David.
So if I skip 2 months and have more to spend on the third month I am getting cured, right?
Now to figure out what months have the best sales and to get the MOST out of my Quarterly Spending Bonanza.

I can refrain from buying lights longer than anybody!
Current offerings make it so easy to do, given my preferences and requirements.
If you can’t resist buying a light, try me, and I’ll tell you why I think you shouldn’t buy it.

I failed again this month. Just received today what I order four days ago…a Lumintop T5 tactical thrower. I just could taste it. Before I knew it, I was pouncing on that PP button!

That’s the spirit!

…and now an Ultrafire UF-L5!

I haven’t made a single purchase in March yet

I tried to buy a Convoy L6 in clear finish but they are out of stock. So I guess I’ll wait and see what comes next that is bigger and badder. :>)

Well it seems I didn’t have to wait long. I have wanted a big boomer flashlight for a couple of years. I had been looking at a couple of the Trustfire J series and couldn’t quite pull the trigger. Then I saw the Convoy L6 Clear and fell in love. But they were out of stock. But after a few months of not even thinking about flashlights (well that’s not true since I pick up a flashlight and take it with me every time I get up and walk away from my desk) but I didn’t think of buying any flashlights for a few months. Then for some reason it just hit me and I started to order parts from Kaidomain, Fasttech, etc. Spent more on parts than if I bought a couple of boomers. And while looking around for parts I found out the L6 Clear is available from Simon and so I bought one. I could go on and on for hours about how beautiful this flashlight is but I don’t want to knock anyone else off the wagon. Just to say it is beautiful, well balanced and bright.

I also bought a couple of very cheap Ultrafire XML-T6 zoom flashlights that can work from either an 18650 or 3 AAA batteries. Not really a great flashlight but works on AAA’s which are plentiful so I can loan them to people looking for a flashlight and not have to give up/out any of my good P60’s to people who don’t understand flashlights.

But now that I have plenty of P60’s and I have the most beautiful boomer ever made in the Convoy L6 I have no other choice but to start buying drop in parts and building my own drop-ins. I own XM-L2, XP-L & XP-L HI drop-ins and I have to say the XM-L2 is my favorite. Just the right balance of throw and bright so I will try to build a couple of 3A XM-L2 drop-ins. Maybe one of those triple XP-G3 triples for the P60 that looks very interesting.

I want to wish all the flashaholics a happy holiday season, and a very prosperous and flashlight filled new year. Every day I see more and more LED based lights being used by society so our LED flashlights seem more common than ever before.
