What are the top 10 signs .."You might be a Flashaholic"?

Well after reading through this thread, (a symptom of flashoholism, no doubt), I’m sure that if you put us all in a dark room, any political, religious, or personal differences we have would melt away. We’ve got this crazy addiction. I’m sure mine fulfills some childhood desire cuz lights sucked back then. That would explain why I have so many walkie-talkies and knives.

Here are some goofy things about my light hobby that may sound familiar:

  • I give lights as gifts to people who continually ask to borrow my lights.
  • Bought a nice Skilhunt H03 headlamp, liked it so much I bought another for work. Work is too nasty and undeserving of that light so I bought a Boruit RJ-02 for $8 to use there. Great light, almost too good for work. Where to from there?
  • Wifey said she thought the clear Nitecore Tube worn on a ball chain around my neck looked cute. An excuse to neck-wear 24/7.
  • Christmas: Blitzwolf camping lantern/power bank for all the kids, grandkids, and wife. (with phone charging cords so they don’t take mine)
  • Stepson started truck driving, hmmm, Tube and ball chain just in case. (he loves it).
  • Nitecore F1 charger/power bank in car and motorcycle, just in case. (hey, there’s 18650s everywhere in laptops and vape shops just in case of apocalyptic situation)
  • Took inventory at arrival to work: Tube neck light, cooyoo quantum ti on keychain, copper Tool AAA in pocket bottom, SC62d clipped to pocket. Reached for the Boruit headlamp.
  • Excited for storm season, possibility that electric will go out for a little while and I can say “see? good thing I had lights for us all!”
  • Wifey bought me a Powercap beanie with beautifully tinted 5MM emitters. Thinking about modding it with the driver and battery from a Nitecore Tube.
  • Bought multi-pack of Micro-USB charging cables to distribute to all my locations in the highly unlikely event that I’m caught needing a charge.
  • My children have the best lights in school!

I thought it would help if I stayed off CPF and instead focused on budget lights. Turns out that I’m like a smoker or drinker that buys cheaper cigs or booze but spends as much cuz they consume twice as much. I’m gonna try to hold off until Skilhunt puts out a new CR123/16340 light or if I find a sweet AA light. I need to use up a bunch of 16340s and I’ve got a ton of Eneloops.

If your junk drawer became your flashlight drawer…then the drawer next to it and so on…

When you dream is:
I want to be alive when LED will have 99% efficiency and 1% heat losses.

When you recognize this flashlight :

Your EDC includes at least 3 flashlights.

Well, if my phone “flash” light counts… guilty! :person_facepalming:

hmmmmm sets see I have been thinking that my led lenser torch’s are a bit lacking in performance lately

or me eyes (I am just about to hit 52) so went looking for a better light to replace my t5 as a EDC weeeell

holy rocka moly are there some torch’s on the market , and I cant afford to get ripped so I start looking for

reviews and here I am , so I read about the jetbeam 1 MK I now have one then I join here and I read about a

olight s1 and yep got one of them too .

now it’s a week later and I now have 6 more torch’s in the mail so yep I think I have to say hello my name is

deye223 and I have a problem not to mention the li-ion cells I have bought and the charges I need this just like

shooting all the ancillary stuff will cost as much as the main thing and more .

cheers D

You may be diagnosed with Acute Flashaolism Syndrom (AFS) if:

- you feel uncomfortable without at least two or three lights near you

- you buy lights just to store your other flashlights spare cells, and then buy spare cells for those lights…

- your neighbor believes he’s seeing strange lights in the sky some nights

- you own untouched spare lights in their original packaging, just in case

- you wish the grid would go down more often

- you go out at night for no other reason then lighting up

- you look at closeup pictures of naked lights late at night

- you fantasize on a 2k lumen keyring light

- you have tint and bin preference

Oh, boy, I got it bad…

No fantasy anymore (Emisar D4)

Does my flashing get me in financial trouble?

Do I attempt to hide my excessive flashing from my friends and family?

Do I lie to friends about my flashing?

Do I feel the strong need for more and more flashing?

Does my flashing cause me to become isolated from normal society?

Do I need to flash immediately upon waking up?

Do I make up excuses for my excessive flashing?

Does flashing dominate my routine thoughts?

Wow… I have to answer no, no, no, no, no…!

Somehow, this sounds more like someone in a trenchcoat who hangs around a playground. :o

Eep!

Impulse buying bright shiny expensive lights.

NTM has “buff” (naked) right in his handle Hmmmm (mostly kidding)

… well, i was thinking about a AAA, 10180 or coin cell light…

It (the D4 with 18350 tube) is pretty small though, so some dreams do come true.

What is the diameter of the D4? I’d expect that even with a 18350 tube, it might be a bit thick and clunky for key ring use.

But hey, patmurris, it was quite a while back that Dale had his Texas Poker AAA light reaching over 1k+ lumens OTF. With today’s emitters, it might not be long before 2k+ lumens OTF is possible from a build or mod. Especially now that some of the smaller cells are trending upward in both capacity and current handling. If/when that “bump” reaches the 10180, there won’t be anything left to stop us from getting 2k+ in a light the size of a BLF 348!

EDIT: Just now looking at the CREE PCT I think it might already be possible, with a XHP50.2 K4 bin wired at 6V, and a couple 10180, in a AAA-size light. The relatively low Vf compared to 2S Li-ion might push output over 2A, right at the edge of ~2k lumens.

One collateral feature is it will also work as a windproof cigarette lighter!

Copper BLF A01, XHP50.2, 2x10180, no driver?… Would the led fit the head?

Damn those are obvious AFS symptoms! :person_facepalming:

-When you’re arrive home at weekend with a new flashlight and your mother says “another one?”!
-When you carry a backpack just to bring 1 or 2 flashlights when going to the beach…during daylight!
-When the family asks you to order them new flashlights!
-When you have 2 flashlights on your bedside and use them instead of the room lights!
-When you clean (vacuum clean) your house using at least 3 flashlights to see the dust and clean it!
-When you talk so much about flashlights, and you buy them, that…your girlfriend makes a strip for you, in a dark room, just using a flashlight on the lowest mode

- you think about the lights you have in the mail before falling asleep, smiling at the thought that one may show up tomorrow.
