a new EDC light of 2017- JAXMAN E2L

I am really undecided about what to buy, S2+ or E2L. Yes I looked beam shots and E2L looks better but there is like $10 difference. I think I should get this because this is new and has TIR lens.

What do you think? In your opinion $10 difference worth it?

It’s a good light stock and 3 LEDs is more efficient. It’s really your call, I enjoy both equally, but my new hopped up E2L is more fun. The S2+ will have slightly more throw, what are you looking for?

Sounds like a recipe for a BLF Brew

Dear jaxman,
I just received the package with the E2L flashlight and was not happy. You wrote the value of the flashlight on the outside of the package:

If the declared value is over 22 euro ($23 dollar), EU customs will charge VAT and handling. So I had to pay an extra €18.65, which almost doubled the price of the flashlight.

I have ordered two E2L hosts from you as well, when those are shipped, could you please please please declare a value on the package that is under $20 ?
Or else this will force me not to order from Jaxman again, it will be just too expensive :frowning:
I think the same happens to all EU customers.

In these instances, just do not accept the package and it will go back then you will get your money from seller.

That’s unfortunate djozz. My E2L had the value marked as $19.8. At least we can do an electronic customs processing ourselves here and only have to pay the VAT and possible toll.

Thank you for message. I want as flood as possible, so this means E2L is better choice ?

Also, what do you think about using E2L or S2+ as Headlamp? (I want floody) . I am decided to buy Skilhunt H03 but is it better to buy e2l or s2+ as headlamp because it is cheaper and maybe even better than h03?

First impression: very good as an ‘as is’ flashlight, and a challenge for modding because of

  1. some glue in the bezel threads (luckily it is SS so it could handle some force, got it off with a piece of inner tyre and a adjustable wrench)
  2. lots of pretty hard (hardened Artic Alumina adhesive feel) gooey under and on top of the ledboard, that will be a challenge to remove.

Compared to some random S2+

The gooey, even sticking to the optic and side of the led. Very stable and no problem at all until you want to mod it.

The output on high setting is 790 lumen @30seconds.More later…

The leds are old production type XP-G2. Am swapping them, but will keep them safe for thrower use!

I hope mine doesn’t get charged with VAT. I’m in EU also and ordered a pair of E2L hosts. :person_facepalming:
fuzun: I think not a correct way to leave it and send back and wait for refund. Jaxman can not know every counrty charges and taxes.

Oh man that sounds like a highway robbery. Wish someone would mention it in the interest list before.

What is that 13.00 charge? Shipping and handling?

it is VAT and administration fee (on these low VAT numbers the administration is kicking in harder)
This is the reason I try to split orders so real value is below 20

Got the driver out and broke away whatever gooey I could reach, it does not stick as much as Arctic Alumina Adhesive, but that ledboard will never come out. I can tell you that the white stuff does not give in even at 150 degC.

So I had to do the reflow in situ. I’m glad I recently made my new heatblock, it needed to be fired up to 240 degrees to unsolder the old leds, and even to 270 degrees to get the flashlight head to the needed 200 degrees for proper reflowing. (all measured with an infrared thermometet)

There you go. In the picture I found out that one led has shifted so I had to re-heat the head to correct that.

And I’m not impressed by the 319C’s under narrow Carclo optics (these are 3000K 80CRI). Left is a 219C triple (3500K 92CRI) for comparison, right the 319C triple E2L. Look at the big yellow center!

The light heats up very fast and the output is good: 2240lm at start, 1740lm at 30seconds on a 30Q at 4.18V. Current was 12.8A (clamp meter measurement without tail section).

I’m ambivalent about the mod. When abused at these high powers the E2L does not seem to handle it much better than say a S2+, I’m sure that with the thick led-shelf, the aluminium vs brass, and the rudimental finning, there is a difference that pays off at somewhat lower power but this (40W) is way too much.
And about the 319C under the Carclo optics: the tint of this 80CRI led is really nice, much nicer than any 80CRI 3000K Cree led, and when not white-wall hunting the beam is perfectly nice, but I see no advantage over the 219C, the latter even has a better beam. Perhaps in a reflector light the 319C shows its merit?

T18, in my country you often are required to fix a customs declaration on the outside of the package, that contains a description and a value. So I do not think that it was a huge mistake from Jaxman. But it would help a lot when Jaxman is aware of the EU threshold of €22 value undrr which no VAT and handling is charged, and adjusts the declared value to avoid that.

I’m sure that Jaxman could have packed this smarter than they did, but I’m not going to ask for refunds. I just hope that they read this and do it better next time.

As a shorty this E2L is really cute, even shorter than a S2+ shorty

Btw, the E2L bezel blocks less light from the optic than a S2+ converted into a triple.

Hey Djozz … you mentioned the goop didn’t give way at 150 C

However, you then heated the head to 240 C … did the goop get any softer at 240C?

I have one of these lights on order. Unfortunately, I missed the window on the hosts so ordered an assembled one with the goop. I like that the threads on the E2L are compatible with the Convoy S2+. I also like the stainless steel bezel and the heatsink fins.

The head got up to 200C, and the goop did not give way. :frowning:

In the meantime, from what I have seen, I think that the E2L that is sold as a host will be just great, it will be easy to work with and has everything that I would want from a triple host including a retaining ring for the driver (this is the first Jaxman light that I own that has that, all other drivers were soldered in :confounded: ). I just hope for a black version at some point.

This goop is not human… It cannot feel pain… It cannot be reasoned with!

Am I reading it correctly that some of you guys are asking Jaxman to lie on the value of what you choose to buy so you can “save money?”

Is there really disappointment here from folks because Jaxman isn’t “helping” them bypass the charges that their individual governments set for products that they purchase?

Sad…and dishonest.

I did get one host of the E2L a while back and it’s a bare and perfect as ever could be, just like buying a Convoy S2 host from Simon but different packaging of course ha ha…,
I will try and do a vid of how to remove some adhesives, if time allows, mainly the stuff under the mcpcb since I’ve never gotten any of the goop as pictured in the OP by Jax.
But can’t imagine if Jax was correct and it becomes fluid at 100C or I think 212F, a micro torch should easily work around inside the driver cavity and De-solidify that thermal compound they used for no valid reason really.
