a new EDC light of 2017- JAXMAN E2L

T18, in my country you often are required to fix a customs declaration on the outside of the package, that contains a description and a value. So I do not think that it was a huge mistake from Jaxman. But it would help a lot when Jaxman is aware of the EU threshold of €22 value undrr which no VAT and handling is charged, and adjusts the declared value to avoid that.

I’m sure that Jaxman could have packed this smarter than they did, but I’m not going to ask for refunds. I just hope that they read this and do it better next time.

As a shorty this E2L is really cute, even shorter than a S2+ shorty

Btw, the E2L bezel blocks less light from the optic than a S2+ converted into a triple.

Hey Djozz … you mentioned the goop didn’t give way at 150 C

However, you then heated the head to 240 C … did the goop get any softer at 240C?

I have one of these lights on order. Unfortunately, I missed the window on the hosts so ordered an assembled one with the goop. I like that the threads on the E2L are compatible with the Convoy S2+. I also like the stainless steel bezel and the heatsink fins.

The head got up to 200C, and the goop did not give way. :frowning:

In the meantime, from what I have seen, I think that the E2L that is sold as a host will be just great, it will be easy to work with and has everything that I would want from a triple host including a retaining ring for the driver (this is the first Jaxman light that I own that has that, all other drivers were soldered in :confounded: ). I just hope for a black version at some point.

This goop is not human… It cannot feel pain… It cannot be reasoned with!

Am I reading it correctly that some of you guys are asking Jaxman to lie on the value of what you choose to buy so you can “save money?”

Is there really disappointment here from folks because Jaxman isn’t “helping” them bypass the charges that their individual governments set for products that they purchase?

Sad…and dishonest.

I did get one host of the E2L a while back and it’s a bare and perfect as ever could be, just like buying a Convoy S2 host from Simon but different packaging of course ha ha…,
I will try and do a vid of how to remove some adhesives, if time allows, mainly the stuff under the mcpcb since I’ve never gotten any of the goop as pictured in the OP by Jax.
But can’t imagine if Jax was correct and it becomes fluid at 100C or I think 212F, a micro torch should easily work around inside the driver cavity and De-solidify that thermal compound they used for no valid reason really.

Oh boy, here goes…

Edit: Do you work for Customs or the USPS or doing any sort of trade with China or any other country than where you live, because if you did any of those you’d know just how stupid that sounds,

I absolutely LOVE IT that Jaxman tells the truth on the customs form! LOVE IT!

I hate liars.

I doubt seriously they are, but we will hope Customs is not “tuned in” to this thread.

When did honesty start to “sound stupid?”

I’ll never do business with anybody that asks me to be dishonest on a customs form and I hope Jaxman continues their “policy of truth.”

Yep, no one likes Liars, but then there’s doing business and no likes be double or triple taxed on anything they should purchase, and if they told the truth on all these declarations they’d be violating current trade agreements and if you’ve ever wondered why they can ship to us so cheap but we can’t ship to them as cheap, trade deals, USPS deals, DHL deals, all of them are liars, REALLY…! And then theirs POTUS and the likes…

+∞

Liars are liars - period. The rest of your “$3K” story is a red herring and immaterial to the discussion of Jaxman being an honest dealer.

I wonder how many of the same guys complaining about paying taxes on their choices were the ones asking for the free light to review…?

Not to get up on a soapbox or anything, but we all know what’s wrong and what’s right.

I applaud Jaxman for their stance.

T18? Do you know Hoosh personally? The “you’re not smart enough for me to try and explain” is extremely rude and while I’m not fond of hitting that button, you’re showing yourself…

I don’t like having values on my packages because I don’t live in the best area and have had things go, “missing.” I see both sides of this, I’m sure Jaxman had 0 ill intentions with how they shipped the product.

Back on track, I did some reading up on the old vs new XP-G2s. I can’t tell much by eye, but I can see little red speckles in my LEDs. From what I read that’s a sign of new XP-G2s, I also cannot see dots in the phosphor it looks smooth. I don’t have any way to take a closer look/picture, but I think I have new ones.

Also another question. So I know I can set the thermal regulation twmp with Bistro, what do you reckon that should be at in this light? It does get quite hot, but I have yet to see it step down… I’m also hesitant to leave it on for more than 20 seconds.

Well, dzozz I’m pretty sure your declaration should have been checked twice, once as a “Gift” like it is and secondly, “Commercial Sample” but I don’t know European customs regulations either and should have never allowed my concern over this vendor or this purchaser to bother me at all, not in the least, but sometimes I just care to much I suppose.
I only wonder what is really going on,
I am the first and apparently the only one here at BLF to get this light without any glue, goop, what have you, received a perfectly clean clean perfectly built light, just as I expect them to arrive, now for all the brain-iacs just how could I have accomplished that??
Perhaps, maybe I know what I am doing or maybe no one else does, hum seems logical to me… but no matter, this builder is used to the dismissals here anyhow,
I am assured there is no glue, I get my light and there is no glue, and I’m asked to show there’s no glue, so I do, and it was all an absolute waste of my time and on so many levels,
So that’s it, it’s just like always, a whatever… ha ha

About being honest to customs:

I know what customs are for and that VAT is a good thing for government money, and I even have the opinion that over here the government money is very well spent.

But the current customs system in the Netherlands is not suitable for small purchases. I payed 20% VAT which is fine with me, but on top of that I pay handling fees that are half the price of the bought item. I’m sure they are real costs that are made by customs but it just kills any attempt to buy small things abroad.

I’m sure that our goverment or whoever down the road controls customs knows this, and they do not want to stop this small trade, so they actively decide not to check packages unless the value is so clearly declared that they can’t ignore it. But in the meantime he bulk of packages from China (my X7 Marauder was way over 100 dollars) get through without checking.

My idea is that it would pay off big time if all packages from China were checked by customs for VAT charges, but they keep the system ignoring this intact to allow small trade to happen

In this system being honest is not a black an white thing. It just implies that for small purchases, Fasttech, dx, Gearbest, Banggood and even Convoy Flashlight will get their packages delivered without their customers paying an extra 100% over what they already payed, and Jaxman is being honest and thus looses their trade to the EU.

It would help a lot if the EU, or the Netherlands, developes a customs/VAT system for small purchases that rewards being honest instead of the current rigid system that only works for bulk trading.

This is a very nice solution , but i have to say that these little Omten switches can handle even 15 amps … My triple X6 (xpl v6) is still running great after a year of use (mostly in turbo).
