Looking for a general-purpose 1x26650 light

I bought some 26650 batteries because I could not resist the $36 Thorfire s70s. Now that I own 26650 batteries, I need another 26650 light… :person_facepalming:

I think at this point I just want a general purpose light. Not a hot-rod, not a 1000m thrower, just a good all-around light. I think relatively compact size and decent runtimes would be most important. Mod-ability would be somewhat ideal as well, because while I might not want to swap the driver, I might want to be picky and throw in my preferred LED tint.

EagleEye X7 seemed to fit the bill, but it appears to be unavailable now. Lumintop SD26 looks good, but somewhat pricey (relatively speaking).

Others? I’m not well versed in 26650 options, just what I’ve read about in this forum in the last few minutes so far…

I’m in a similar boat (bought a Convoy L6). I bought a Manker U 21 as a compact thrower and am pretty pleased so far. Been looking hard at the SD26 as it looks like a good all purpose light.

Love my HD2010
Throw and a good amount of spill for cheap.
But not sure you can buy them anymore…

Lumintop SD26 is a nice all-in-one choice .

The light i own and i think it’s a must have is the DQG Tiny 26650 3rd (7x xp-g2) . Awesome little light !

I asked pretty much the same a while back after my L6 and 26650 investment.

I vote EE X7, I have 2 already and Sorry because I cleaned out the last batch on GB. They will get more and ship in about a week. X7 uses the same reflector as the X6 so it is a good light and with 26650 run-time and does have a better feel in hand than X6. Has triple potential. Only negative I have is the tail SW access, as it comes out the rear from outside the body. My first 2 were XP-L HI, installed a FET+1 into one and made the other a Triple. Sold the triple and need to make another to replace it.

Convoy X3 is on sale @ GB for $25.65 and is a good price… I have one on the way but no experience with it. Not many here own it from my research.

also got a screamin deal off amazon on an old Solarforce K2 for $8ea. Side e-SW that I am not a fan of, but could not resist for the price. Swapped emitter, resistor mod and it’s a nice light. Have plans on the second K2 to be a triple but awaiting parts.

KD sells a few in the $20 range that got my attention but have not pursued.
These 2 tube lights… I do want a tube 26650 next.
UltraFire Cree XM-L U2 5-Mode 1000 Lumens LED Flashlight (3 x AAA / 1 x 18650 / 1 x 26650)
TrustFire A8 Cree XM-L2 1000 Lumens 5-Mode LED Flashlight (1 x 26650)

And several emitter options of this JKK26

Ultra fire LZZ-F1 is only $19, not a tube light, and can be had cheaper if you look around

That DGQ Tiny is $1,255+ shipping on Amazon US :open_mouth: . But looks a little cheaper ($60) from some Chinese stores.

Convoy X3 used to be an often recommended light. It was the XinTD X3 back then. The main standout feature it has over the new 26650 lights is 3xAA compatibility.

  1. LOL, so it was you! And that’s good to know they plan to re-stock. I like the look of the light OK, though it seems 20mm longer than it needs to be.
  2. That’s good, but not my plan for this light. IIRC you used C8 triple parts successfully in the X7?
  3. I haven’t held one, but side switch seems more natural for a fatter 26650 light, in my mind. I could easily be wrong.
  4. I’ll check it out. Convoy BD06 seems like an option too.
  5. I passed on that at the time due to not owning any 26650.
  6. (again, in my mind) I don’t think I like the style of a 26650 tube light. I like a bit of head. :zipper_mouth_face:

Guilty… times 5. Yeah I bought 5 more of the X7, cleaned them out!!
X7 has it’s own triple spacer from Kirill in Russia. Buy 2 and make one a 26650 triple… I did and then some. Awesome light, I like it. I just have a feeling it will be NLA soon. EE Ali page no longer lists them, and GB no longer has the XP-L HI, not even on BO.

Just Old habits but I will always push on the tail before I realise its a Side E-SW light. Side SW lights always get turned on by accident for me in my pack and then there’s the parasitic drain, I just don’t like them without a tail SW to lock out.

I am missing the 26650 tube style light in the variety so I will decide on one sooner or later. Don’t need, but I also don’t need Six EE X7. :smiling_imp:

General purpose, as in walking the dog, not throwing hundreds of yards… I love my Shadow JM20 and JM07 for this purpose. The Trustfire A8, if you can find it is a good light as well. The JM07 is a true 26650 tube light.

So far I like the styling and side switch of the SD26, but I’m having a hard time ignoring the $20 price tag of the EE X7. Current coupon price (through the deals subforum) of the SD26 is about $36 - could almost get two EE X7 for that price. Convoy BD06 also about $20 current sale price, hmm…

Turning the tables on me?… I was spending your money and now your spending mine.
Where?
No, don’t tell me. I was a BAD Boy this weekend and spent too much.
OK, I looked on GB and BG, no $20 BD06. Help…
Yeah I know side SW… but if it’s a real clicky I would. E-SW is a no.

And yes the end price on my X7’s was about $18ea w/ GB17LED

Well I could have sworn I saw $20.xx, but the best I see now is $22.99, eh…

Code GB3RDn9 on gearbest.

Edit: doesn’t Simon give decent BLF discounts, like 10 or 15? BD06 is regular price $25.36 at his store on AE. 15 off of $25.36 is $21.56. Maybe $23 isn’t that great really. Although I did just learn that the BDo6 has USB charging available through what appears to be a magnetic/snap on adapter.

Don’t know if this fits the bill but Foursevens has a sale on the Maelstrom MMU-X3…

47’s Maelstrom MMU-X3 Clearance

Only 2 modes but the 200 might be about right for walking the dog and you still have the higher output capability if needed.

Been looking and the BD06 is a real clicky.
Read some mod potential, stacking 7135’s and jumpering 2 legs on tiny13A to block the blinky modes.

Simon is 15% if you ask him. Need to make the purchase on Ali but Do Not Pay. That generates an order number. Now ask for the discount and he will then adjust the order total.
But if I go through Simon there will be MORE than just the BD06 in the cart. And I seriously need to not go there. $95 of stuff has been in my cart since before the Holiday when he closed. Thankfully he has not yet relisted several of the items I am wanting.
He also changed up most of the items to be epacket delivery so cost went up significantly on the accessory parts.

Don’t think the BD series get discounted, not developed by Simon/Convoy sourced outside so no discount from him
Love the charging and connection for it, gave a BD01 to neighbors for its safe easy and good.

SD26 is the way to go, at $32 wouldn’t call it pricey

BD06 is just too big to be considered as “general purpose”

I have wanted a 26650 light for a while. Lots of budget options for sure.

Thanks for starting this thread SAC.

Bob

Do you have a link/code/source for $32 price?

edit: the BD06 charger that snaps onto the switch seems pretty cool. but the more I think about it, I realize - proprietary chargers are no good. It probably works well and would be a novelty, but I think if the light is designed to be a rechargable, it’s better to just stick with the standard micro USB. That way I can recharge it anywhere, without having to keep track of the special adapter.
