a new EDC light of 2017- JAXMAN E2L

Wow…. do you have a link to the complete article? I’d like to read it.

Sure here is the link How the world’s biggest companies bribe foreign governments—in 11 charts v

Thank you.

T18……. once again great pictures! But I do have a question about how you de-attached the MCPBC.

Once you removed the optic did you place something in two of the three optic holes and twist in a circular, but horizontal motion to break the MCPCB loose from it’s “mooring”??

A lateral twist I guess is what I am trying to say/convey.

I realize from your pictures that your MCPBC seems to not have been “moored” as firmly as others. But I was just making sure about your process in case I decide to employ it.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you Teacher for the kind words and I’d be happy to explain the process I used to remove that MCPCB, not difficult but was frankly something that should not have been necessary, quit a pain frankly.
Happened to see your post and wanted to let you know that I did and I will have to get back to you on this, but I will, promise…!

Say Teacher, FYI, I got 2 - M2’s, as I had mentioned I am never really sure of what to expect with Jax but I guess I was right, so some good news, and removed the bezel quickly to get a peek and it’s real clean, the entire light is darn nice for sure, will try and get some pics this evening and tear it down more, never know what looking into the pocket will bring you, surprise… ha ha…
Anyhow I thought you’d like to know this and so what I said stands of course, but really glad I got two now or I’d be a bit bummed, but I would have at this moment, turned right around and bought a bunch more of these, pretty sure at first glance, nice clean light, Take care

Thank you T18, look forward to the reply whenever you have time.

Hmmmm, 2 - M2’s, a “surprise”, I am intrigued.

Take care and talk later. Looking forward to the M2 tear down pics too, when you get them that is.

I got my 2 lights in from Jaxman yesterday, the UV version and the E2L triple. They both have outstanding finishes and the attention to detail, assembly of the light before the text being applied so everything lines up, is just stellar! The gray steel E2 L is a very nice change from black or silver, really like it a lot, and the SS bezel goes with it very well.

The tail switch retaining ring is left hand thread, in case anyone was wondering.

Stock, it performs like this…

0.07A for 24.88 lumens
0.62A for 220.8
2.06A for 741.75

So I put a Qlite with 8 extra chips and biscotti flashed…

Level 10 of biscotti

0.04A for 10.557 lumens
0.42A for 137.655
2.23A for 643.77
5.92A for 1652.55

Much mo bettah!

Edit: For the record the second set of numbers was pulled off the same cell without recharging.

Nice build Dale, I also picked up his E3 version UV and that to is an awesome UV with filter lens great for my trit work and the bigger winner for me is that I bought a couple of the AA M2 - 2 Cell lights, they are not only nice looking and pocket friendly but how they are built is completely unbelievable.

I have posted some pics over on the E2L host page of this other new light the Jaxman M2 and my tear down and what I found out M2 pics
I really liked the looks of the body style out the gate and then looking at it I had some ideas and a lot of hope so took a chance and bought a couple normally I don’t really look at AA lights but this one seemed different and so when I got it and tore it down I was in for a huge surprise, a very pleasant surprise.
So just saying that M2 light is a real sleeper, the retaining ring is what really blew my mind,
I hadn’t seen one as good as that in a long time and really allows for sky’s the limit, I know what I’m building with it in 14500 but could only imagine a Dale build with this same light, definitely worth a look…!

Aw man! You’re gonna make me buy more lights! :stuck_out_tongue:

Ha Ha, it never ends, you must have looked at my pics, did you see that retainer… amazing, it stunned me really,
I knew if I didn’t mention this AA light most wouldn’t look at it, but it’s a real sleeper as I’ve said and cheap for what you can do with it.
I’m right now am doing a mock-up with another driver populated both sides to see if that retainer is what I think it is and a XHP50,
I’ll drop a picture soon, it’s to cool and what’s cooler yet was a recent conversation I was having with RMM about the new XHP50.2 and the new XHP70.2, well while we was just talking suddenly Richard says I just got some 50.2s and he dropped one in a C8 smo to see what would happen beam wise, we know what happens with the old 50-70’s and it seems all those old issues with the dies is history per RMM eyeballs, so being the footprint of the 50.2 is 5*5 which is same as the stock emitter this M2 light came with and is currently on 16mm noctigon at Mt. well … you know… ha ha
The reflector in this AA is a very lite stippled OP with a hint of smooth and 9mm emitter hole, 31mm across I think and about 23.5mm deep, driver pocket I tried to get a lot of angle shots, very nice really.

Of course that tall retaining ring means nothing for an FET+1 driver. Zener mod one and bingo, 6V emitter in business with a couple of 14500’s. Loved that MT-G2 on a 16 sitting down in there, you should do that!

Funny, the new Eagle Eye X9 has a similar robust brass retaining ring over a 20mm driver. It’s not relieved on the inside like that M2 is but still.

And the Jaxman E2 L has a very thin brass retaining ring, I stuck a Qlite in it with 4 extra chips on each side and it was no issue at all. 5.92A at the tail on an LG HE-2 rested. That was almost too easy, I had the driver sitting in my box after replacing it with an FET driver. Simple matter of flashing Biscotti and soldering it into the E2 L. Suddenly it’s really alive! Jaxman makes some seriously well done lights, for sure. From the Z1 to the X1, the UV and E2 L, every one has been meticulously crafted and I really like where they’re going…

Oh buddy you already know I’m on it, this was the real sleeper at Jaxman, I was looking at it at Jaxman and they sort of not to wisely had said next to the description the size of a AA cell said 14500 and first thought was someone is going to not understand that and put two 14500’s in this AA light and have about 1/1000 of a second worth of light and that would be it for that light, UNless,… then I thought and 2 cell?
So in the cart it went and see what happens when it arrives and it was a win win big time and even that retainer you won’t see very often,
Thanks for the comment about how nice that MT-G2 looked, it did look really nice sitting in there for sure but I think first I’m going with the new XHP50.2 now that I know what is what with Richard confirming to be and with a pic even how the new 50.2’s make the doughnut hole and other die related issues a thing of the past now.
So I’ve already order the XHP50.2 on 16mm noctigon with a new QLITE driver zener modified to run a 6V XHP50 and all the Fet possible since their soldering is better than mine and I am good at de-soldering should it be just to much, but it looks real good overall with the 50 I had on a cheap 16mm board and the 50 fits into the reflector real well, up and in nice and just excited really, it is so rare to buy a light with just a idea and hope that it turns out to be for real and it turns out better than for real, this is a incredible light through and through.

Also as you can see the reflector is a very light stipple, so the 50.2 not having the old issue known with the XHP50-70’s should be real nice and the 50 fits deep in the reflector so buying some of those big 3m things RMM has that fit’s over the connections and have some Kapton so just waiting on the mail but mocking up parts for when the real parts show up just hate waiting and also order some more of these lights from Jaxman.

Edit: Yes I’ve been a Jax guy since about day one have them all now that I’ve bought the little UV light and the owner really needs to hear all this good stuff about his lights, it makes a big deal that he knows that he is turning out some amazing products and to not be offended when I tear all the guts out of his fantastic AA light or his X1 light what have you, there’s nothing wrong with the light because I do that, it is what we do and I don’t believe to this day the owner completely understands why we take a part a perfectly good light and rebuild it and I’ve tried to explain, it’s because it’s what we do …. It’s a sickness I’ve come to believe, for me anyhow… Nothing wrong with any Jax light I’ve ever seen for sure but I believe if it ain’t broke try to break it then if anything just make it better performing light…

Well, for me, it’s gotta be up against the wall or it ain’t right. I know they can’t sell em like that to everybody and they are worried about liability and all that so I have no problem with them being “standard” when they come to me, it just gives me some parts to play with later after I gut about 300 or 400 lights.

I used to stack chips 3 or 4 high on the Qlite, sometimes keeping the 3 high on the inside but not afraid to go with as many as I felt it took. hahaha Took me a pretty long time to realize I was putting more chips on than the cell could drive a light so it was a futile effort part of the time but good practice all the same.

I could probably put 4 more chips on this Qlite/Biscotti and let the triple have closer to 9A and hit 2000+ lumens but then heat would be a huge factor and the run time would suffer anyway so I may leave it like it is at 5.92A. We’ll see. Could be that it needs some XP-L2’s, at which point it will also need more amps for sure. Not concerned with whether or not the mcpcb will come out easy as the lathe can cut the mcpcb out with no difficulty. Much simpler than prying on the edges and messing things up.

So I guess I only need to find out what’s between my Nichia UV emitter and the black filter glass to see if I can improve the beam profile of that one, might add a nice chunk of copper and raise up the Nichia to just under the glass for a mule that has no hot spot or artifacts. Gotta be something I can mod on that one…

Yes exactly Dale, this light was dirt cheap fully assembled brand new and the potential I discovered taking a chance is incredible,
Jaxman saw my pics of his new AA light and I know he was not happy about that.
He has a lot of pride in his product and for me to get the light and just tear it a part sends the wrong message and I know it,
I’ve tried many times to explain why we do this but it doesn’t translate and now I just saw a member mention this on RMM’s thread as a possible great host, I asked to please respectfully do not do this to Jaxman, he will stop selling hosts completely, do it like the old days, you buy a flashlight because it looked cool but then find out it’s completely junk but still looks good so… you fix it up.
You mentioned that MT-G2 looking so good and I got to looking at it again and I have ordered some more of these 2 cell AA’s from Jaxman so I will be going with the MT-G2 and the new XHP50.2 as others, it’s just to good of a light to not just go crazy, but wanted to ask, on that Qlite zener modded driver RMM sells what do you think about adding just 3 more fets, use the normal side of your brain please, not the crazy burn down the town side of your brilliant brain… hah ha, I think as it is stock zenered with a add 3 should be 4A I think and should be good for this AA and the MT-G2 6v, the heat sinking is so so, maybe…?
I bought that E3 UV and been sitting here wondering myself what behind that black retainer and why black, boy that’s just asking for it, make a retainer black like in X project, it will make me look for sure… ha ha Already thinking how nice the body looks to me and I wonder if this might fit, and well Oh never mind…. ha ha

Edit, the driver in this AA is just 2 modes nicely spaced, great beam profile and a nice warm white tint is what I got, the reflector has great throw considering, but that’s all, then I saw all the great potentials, and oh boy what a sleeper.

I did a Jaxman M2 with XHP50.2 and a LD-2 driver :

There is some more info in the Jaxman M2 thread :

hi dear friend, just see your great working on a ourlight. :person_facepalming:
due to busy work, I visit BLF not at a full-day time. And maybe I cant read a long topic you are talking about. I really appriciate the DIYmen who can make all kinds of flashlight…But as a seller,I want say, that will make me crazy….haha……

Best wishes, and injoy what you like.

That’s really nice Khas, actually had no idea Jaxman put up a thread for this M2, he says one thing and then does another, so a tad irritating, not you or the group of course, but it seems at times the guy is playing to sides against the middle.
I’ve been sitting on this light for awhile now, not supposed to say anything about modding but finally decided I bought the light I’ll do as I like since I was fairly certain most here wouldn’t really give a AA light a second look and hoped a mention of the mod capabilities would generate some sales for him, well maybe won’t be like that again.
I had bought one thinking a rather difficult 14500 mod and when I got it and I realized just how great the light was and found out that any 17mm will drop in perfectly and the retainer ring is unbelievable and is able to support a double sided populated driver so sky was the limit.
I appreciate the link you posted but sure am surprised to say the least, completely reverse of what I thought he wasn’t going to do, but I guess after mentioning what I saw as far as modding but yet he didn’t tell me he started his own thread for this light well maybe profit and was maybe more than he could keep quit about himself ha ha,
Yep you did superb job and with the same LED that I am going with and also the MT-G2 and I’m waiting now for the QLITE 6V+ Zener’s with add 3-7135’s I think that makes it 4A’s or so, the reflector was another great surprise at 31mm wide and 23.5mm deep and a nice lite stipple with some smooth to it which is why is was wondering about old issues with the XHP50’s and how the die’s caused all those issues, doughnut hole etc. when used with a smooth reflector, but then Richard got hold of some of the new 50.2’s and told me that the new 50.2 has solved the old issues with smooth reflectors and showed a picture of a no modded C8 with the 50.2 just thrown in to see what it looked like and it looked fantastic, what’s your take on that LED, with this lights stippled Op reflector, give you some throw at all…??
Can’t wait for the new 70.2 now, but yes this is a real sleeper of a AA 2 cell light for sure and well worth the money, that is one nice build you’ve done…!
I sincerely thank you for your posting that thread with the link, thank you I had no idea…

I have built Zener modified Qlite drivers and Wight’s PZL driver with a Zener mod for the 6V emitter, but the 7135 chip is not designed to run with an 8.4V power supply so there is potentially a problem with that if using the light for longer periods and/or in the lower modes where the regulation chip is holding back more of the current.

I prefer to use the MOSFET driver and if need be tone it down with PWM. The little 14500’s can be surprising, a pair of em can do 6A or more in most cases and of course you can just avoid Turbo to make it easier on the cells.

LED4Power’s LD-2 is a better approach, I think. I have a few of those left, might try that some day. Nice mod Khas, bet it’s a really sweet performer in a “sleeper” of a light!
