Home Depot Deal Alerts & Discussion Thread

So yesterday I scored a razorback shovel for $7.53 marked down from. $34. It was actually tucked away out of sight in the clearance area. And only noticed by my 4 year old because he gets into everything!

On my way out I heard a little grumbling between 2 employees that, “he got that last shovel”

Seeing these shovels were not there last week when I took those pictures I can only guess that they may have been stashed away for a while so employees could snag them at the price drop.

Great deal! I saw those too, but I got a couple last year at that great price.

I actually was in one store that had all 4 of those tools at the “3” price.
Right next to this display was a display for metal tined rakes for $3.33 I was with a friend and we bought them all.

Going up to the registers, we thought he had just scored a great deal. Turns out the guy in line in front of us did MUCH better!!!
2 - 12 foot wide rolls of carpeting. One roll contained 14 square yards, the other 16………………
The 2 HD employees you see are trying to figure how to ring up his sale.

The customer is on the left, he came across this deal on the floor. These 2 rolls were priced as shown.
Top of tag, “Reduced 100%”

14 cents and 16 cents.
Home Depot had pennied these 2 rolls out. Rather than throw them in the dumpster, taking up valuable dumpster space, they decided to sell each at 1 cent per square yard!
So he ended up paying 30 cents, + tax

I need to expand the scope of my deal hunting in HD. :person_facepalming:

Ok. In getting a bit frustrated. I’ve ask a number of times how to do this but to no avail. I am officially the “goof” who rings up the whole store at self checkout without buying a thing. I mean, ive tried everying thing! My store has items dated from last July, august, self… and no discount any different than the orange sticker price.

And what in the world is the 2 price or 6 price or 99 price… idk?! This is nuts. I guess I am done and will quit reading this thread as it just makes me angry! I think maybe you guys are part of an out of control joke, laughing at everyone who gives this a try. (I’ve been involved in college humor before)

No, I do believe that you are getting deals but I still don’t get it or my store is an exception to the rule?

LightRider, It’s no joke. That I can assure you.
It is true, some stores are harder to score in than others. Also some stores may be easier, then for some reason will have long spells where it is more difficult.
This is a very long thread and the fundamentals have been explained many times. Perhaps if you do a search on the internet for “Home Depot penny” you will get some information that you can use.

Another example on how to score a penny deal.
Today while walking thru my store, my caught this display. All of these knives are not were they would normally be,an employee hung some on a post next to the flashlights. For some reason, flashlights and knives seem to go togehter.

What I noticed was that there were 3 double packs of knives mixed in with the 1 knife and blade set. That knife and blade set currently goes for $7.88. The 2 packages look very similar at first sight. The double set just turned to the “2” price as I mentioned in an earlier post. I knew that cause I spied the price change stickers a couple of days ago at another HD. I even was able to score 1.

So I grabbed all 3, because a 2 pack for $2.52 is a great deal. Just to make sure though, I price checked before I bought them………
And BIG surprise!!!
They scanned for a penny.
I have NO explanation for that one, maybe I DO have the power
All I can say is, learn the fundamentals, after that it is a combination of hard work, perseverance, and a little luck.

BTW, I know how it can feel. I felt that yesterday when I was behind the guy getting 30 yards of carpeting for 30 cents :confounded:

Don’t feel bad, a HUGE part of it is how the store is run. Another large part is how often you are in the store and how good your memory is, then throw in a pretty healthy serving of good luck. The only thing left is skill.

The HD closer to my home has still been selling the energizer lanterns for full price when my work HD has 20 of them on the clearance rack for less than $5.

The 2, 3, 6 price is the penny digit of the price. It encodes where on the path from FULL price to PENNY price the item is. Usually.

I’ve been watching the eight pistol safes that showed up in my work HD clearance rack a month ago. [edit]I just pulled up the pic I took on my phone March 1, $46.0 6, so it was the ‘6’ price and the date of the markdown was 1/4/17 so it should have been halving to $23.03 (I think) soon.[/edit] There were 6 of them left Thursday or Friday last week, I went in today expecting/hoping them to be there with a new price - GONE, all of them. I’m pretty sure DCHOMAK drove down to the Carolinas from Connecticut just to snipe them out from under me!

What determines wether or not they will scan for less than the sticker price? So “6” is the price break just before turning to a penny?

Keep in mind these deals are not supposed to happen. If everything worked as intended (based on our understanding) none of us would be finding these deals. That is why there are no real rules that work every time. Furthermore, each store and region appears to have the ability to override price changes. So if store X in South Carolina is confident they will eventually sell Product X, they don't have to follow the Corporate price moves. Makes sense since a product may move better in specific areas. Home Depot has been making record profits. They seem to know what they are doing, big picture wise. So you have to become very observant to figure out what works and what slips by at your stores. Dchomak demonstrates over and over, superior observation skills. He may be fortunate to be near stores that move big margin items and can afford to be sloppy with low margin stuff, but no one here has matched him yet even in his region.

Please follow that and start reporting your results with proof. There is much truth in it, but there are many a slip twixt the cup and the lip.

I rarely shop at home depot.

But if you look at the images from the past 2000 posts you will see that the pricing discussed in that forum thread is very accurate.

You just need to wait the right amount of time between the price being changed and getting there before the product is removed.

I think I was the first to report a penny deal here on BLF. Way before that thread started. Been doing it a while. There are no hard rules that always work.

EDIT: The above sounds authoritative. I should have said, "There are no hard rules that always work as far as I know."

I have made some great purchases, I don’t remember at this point if I have scored any penny deals, but I got a rolling tool cart for $40, about what the CASTERS would cost me. I managed to get several of the Energizer WeatherReady Lanterns for less than $5 (with three AA batteries). I made the mistake of telling the employees what a good deal they were when there were 15 or so left on the shelf, and when back the next day to get more for friends - empty self.

Part of the luck is catching an item that is miss-shelved and no one but you realizes what a deal it will ring up at. It is also about how many other people there are who are watching the deal you are waiting on. (And probably keeping my stupid mouth shut would help as well.) Someone else saw those pistol safes, they got to them before I did. I don’t know if the price had come down or if a new person saw the existing price and jumped on them. At the risk of starting a political discussion, this is capitalism at the most basic level. A reverse auction if you will. I don’t need another (fill in the blank), but if I find one marked at 25% of the original price, I’m going to seriously consider it. Someone else needs that item, and will happily buy it at 50%.

I got several two packs of Milwaukee 11in1 screwdrivers for around $7/pack. I tossed a couple in the work toolbox, gave some to friends and donated another pair to a robotics team that my daughter is on and I mentor. I was not willing to watch them disappear waiting for them to hit a penny cause some other cheap so and so wanted them. Maybe he is on some other forum bragging about scoring my pistol safes and lamenting the missed screwdrivers.

The deals exist. The information linked above is basically what is being posted about here. S’truth!

You are on the right track but not quite. $xx.06 is the first major price cut. Things often have been on sale at a higher price than that, and the ‘regular’ price higher still. After some amount of time sitting at the $xx.06 price, either on the regular shelf or the special clearance shelf, if there are any left, they go to the $xx.03 price, usually half the $xx.06 price. This is usually about 25% of the original price. This SHOULD clear the merchandise. But sometimes things go wrong (from HD’s perspective). Maybe demand for Ice Melt has… dried up. :sunglasses: Or maybe the inventory system thinks there is ONE left in the store but nobody can find it. Some customer picked it up and their wife caught them and asked the dreaded question: “What do you need THAT for?!” and they put it down in another isle. Or an employee put an entire box of that item in the wrong place. That is when things drop to a penny. HD marks it to a penny so their non selling inventory numbers are as low as possible while they look for the item. And WE come searching through the store, on the treasure hunt for stuff we may not need but get a cheap thrill out of scoring for a penny.

Don’t ask about the time wasted walking around HD. Don’t take into account the six bucks I paid for two boxes of Gorilla Wire Nuts that I didn’t really need. I got a DEAL!

!!

I’ve been busy moving into a new house. But I did find a nice fireproof safe at the 3 price. Normally they’re over 400$ they have a new model out now. Also those Bosch laser measuring tools are a penny, found one mixed in with new stock GLMX 10 is the model

Found a few items at my local HD at the 3 price and the 2 price nothing too great. Marked down in November, they all scanned for the stickered price.
My local HD seems to be pretty picked over. All those bins of holiday items being marked down are long gone.

There is a nice tool belt that normally sells for about $100 that just hit an .03 price at the Harbison Blvd store in Columbia, SC. I bought one at $25.03 and left 2 on the shelf. Sorry for no pics. It has a thick brown leather and black nylon belt and pockets. It can carry a ton of stuff and looks like it will last. Best of luck to any that try to get one.

Brand? Model name?

Can't find it on their website. It's a Husky 21 pocket belt with a full apron. Here is one on ebay (link in first pic). Second pic if found in an google query.

Tools not included.

I missed out on this deal.
The triple emitter Defiant, 3C 850 Lumen flashlight went to the 2 price. All stores around here show 0 in stock

Also the 2 pack of WS40 products hit the 2 price! Both of the included items still are sold in HD separately, and total $13
$2.02 is a steal!

So did you wheel the whole display up to the register on a dolly?
