Test/review of Charger LiitoKala Lii-202

Thanks for the testing, HKJ! Great review as always.

I’m very happy with this charger, bought from Gearbest 2 months ago. Never used the powerbank function, though. But charging it does great.

I took pics of the internals, will upload them soon.

Mine does 2 x 1A very nicely, but it was difficult to find out.
I measured with aluminum foil, cardboard and DMM first, and got very low values. The foil had a strangely high resistance and the DMM added to it. Then I soldered a 10mOhm shunt in both channels and measured the voltage drop: slightly over 1A per channel simultaneously. PSU is the HKJ-approved Enerpower Flypower 2A.

So my charger does a fine Job.
Will start looking into making the target voltage selectable.

From the article, C = Iload / (f × Vpk-pk). After peeking at the graphs, I decided to go with Iload = 1,2A, f = 500Hz and Vpk-pk = 0,5V. This results in… 4800μF. Of course, these calculations may not mean much here and such capacitor may still be oversized, in practical terms. And of course, that won't fix de boost converter design/quality control failure.

Are classic (cheapo?) electrolytic caps low ESR in nature? I believe so, or at least should be more than good enough for this and/or fixing noisy driver outputs, doesn't it?

Cheers ^:)

The switcher frequency is probably about 50kHz.
For best result you need a capacitors specified for switcher usage, i.e. low ESR specified at 100kHz. Capacitors designed for 50/60Hz bridge rectifiers or audio applications are not really low ESR types and are not designed for 100kHz.

Pass through charging is not working on Lii-202. So usb output is not working if usb input is connected (with or without batteries inserted). Any way to fix this? Like manually connecting usb input contacts (+ and -) with usb output? Any concerns why I should not do that?

WHat’re the changes to the version v3 ?

Hmm, new ones have problem with low voltage charging in one slot.

One slot is 4.17-4.18V and other is 4.11-4.13V tested on three samples. So they mess something in this new ones in whole batch, does someone else notice this ?

I bought one several years ago where 1 slot charged around 4.20 and the other around 4.17 so it’s not a new issue.

Yep, but now it is eaven lower :person_facepalming:

What cells are you charging, I try with 30Q and get that results, right now I charging on one sample that I have from 1-1.5 years ago and will report about half hour what I get on it…

I was charging Panasonic 18650B’s at the time. I threw the charger into my earthquake supplies so I haven’t used it since then.

Yep, it is not about different cells.

This older one that I test now, I get after rest in right slot 4.21V and in left 4.17V, new ones are like I said right 4.17-4.18V, and left 4.11-4.13V…

Does anyone warn them about this, do they have account here so we can ask them to repair this ?

I bought one just for 4 x Li-Po4 AAA’s I bought.
It works fine for them.
Battery’s read even when checked on Multi.
Plus evenly charges any 18650/26650’s I’ve had in there.
Everything else I do with Xtar VC 4 and VC 2.
I also use a NIKON 3.5A cable for all my chargers.

I use Panasonic B’s, Samsung 30Q in 18650,
With Soshine 26650, 14500, and Li-Po4 10440’s.
Those Soshine are cheapies that seem to give constant output
and lots of reserve for the price. Can’t complain so far.

Does anyone know if there is a fairly simple way to fix this so both bays end up at about 4.19V - 4.20V??

If so, what is it??

Any guidance appreciated…… :+1:

Maybe enjoy your dual output voltage setup? O:-)

Cheers :-)

I got no idea what your talking about. :person_facepalming:
So, if you don’t mind…….
……IF there is anything to explain… please explain it.

Otherwise…. I’ll just assume it was a BS comment. … :innocent:

For me “enjoy your dual output voltage setup” means deal with it or sort of.

A relatively simple solution can be wiring both channels in parallel. Should work well without issues due to being reverse polarity protected. If you do this the charging current would become 1A/2A shared for both channels.

Wait for someone else to chime in if in doubt.

Cheers ^:)

Thanks for the review, I bought this at Gearbest a year ago and never unpacked it. Finally found it in the original shipping envelope and started using it! It felt like a Christmas gift I gave myself

So far it is as described above, great charger.

He means, sometimes it’s conservative not to always charge cells up to maximum voltage, because that reduces lifetime of the cells, while not doing much toward keeping the light on and fully bright — probably just a few minutes’ difference.

Try a test, put a phone camera on time lapse and see how long a light stays usefully bright when charged from either side of the charger.

And charger circuits are specified to plus or minus five percent, so if you have several chargers, you can keep track of which ones produce which results — and take advantage of knowing what you have.

Or so it seems to me.

I bought one of these last fall. Used it maybe 6-10 times. Last night, tried to charge a pair of batteries and only the left side seems to be working. All of the LEDs light up when 1st plugged in, but the right side does not react when I put a battery in.

Anyone else have issues with this model?
