Decent Multiple AA Based Flooder. Is there one?

Its easy to find a good AA keychain light or decent small or large AA based pocket light. You can even find decent AA based throwers such as the MCU-C88 or Fenix Tk41. But is there a truly high output AA based flooder?

What's the best we can come up with?

I have a 4Sevens Quark X 2AA that has an xml LED and an OP reflector. That's the floodiest 2AA light I am aware of but it is not a budget light. I am not sure if there is a budget alternative to the Quark with xml and OP.

There is also the Fenix TK45. It uses 8 AAs. They use this light in alternate universes as seen on the tv show "Fringe". Wink It puts out about 600 lumens. It also is not a budget light.

That's what I was thinking. Is there a budget alternative?

Yeah the TK45 seems the best option, it was available for around $80 shipped on DD a while back I think.

Or the Balder 2x AA light, that uses XM-L and has a pretty small head so should be a real flooder too.

Anything with xm-l will be floody

Really, my XML's aren't that floody, not compared to my zoomies, mag fusion or UF-h3 for example

TK41? One of the most pencil beams out there..

There's also the Olight S65 that's cheaper than the TK45 and give comparable amount of light, and the Olight S35 which is even cheaper and gives a lot of light also. Both Olights come with a diffuser and are floodier than the TK45 anyway, I think.

I think the TK45 is floodier normally, but with the diffuser the S35/S65 would probably be floodier. Unfortunately they've both just jumped up in price on DD and so can't be had much (if any) cheaper than the TK45.

Oh, and there's always the option for the DIY way with a Saik-305 (replace emitter, pill, driver, maybe lens, maybe reflector, fill hole in body) and a diffuser (or spraying the lens).

Has Fenix brought out it 3xAA flood to throw type light yet? It was looking like one unique design. It was zooming with one reflector in another going front or rear of the bigger reflector.

or any XM-L......driven at 14500...... whatever brand, what is brighter and wider?

Only naturals...not Frankenstein Monsters

My Xeno e03 is a floody 1AA light.
Edit: oh, you already mentioned Xeno. Couldn’t see the title on my phone.
Maybe a floody Zebralight? My h51 regular isn’t much of a flooder though, but maybe ‘f’ version with a fogged lens.

Sounds easy to do . 3 AAA 's and an xml

The old itp A6 Polestar is a pretty floody light. It uses an MC-E emitter and 6xAAs in a battery carrier. I have given several as gifts and they have held up really well. 3 brightness modes and strobe/SOS. About 80 bucks, half the price of the closest competitor the TK40, except floodier.

Check the beam of the older TK40 as you can probably find it on sale. Its well known for having a good balance between flood and throw.

Sides, you can always put a condom or something on the end of any throw light to diffuse it. ;-)

I've been searching for the same thing for so long. I like my xeno e03, but want something that takes at least 6 regular AAs.

There's a thread on cpf about diffuser for tk41 - seems they've found one that works great and is a proper glass diffuser - for an olight I believe

eventually I'll probably go that route - but it costs so much!

+1 for the A6 Polestar (Gawd, that sounds like a stripper name...)

I had mine up for sale, then realized there was nothing else like it around. I'm keeping it. :)

The Olight S65 "baton" replaces the Polestar in their lineup - at a substantial price jump.

I got the S65 Baton for under $60 shipped at dinodirect recently, I know the prices have increased a lot now but you could contact summer and suggest it as the next group buy if you really wanted it..

How about in a 2xAA XM-L? I just got my "Caveman" from Shiningbeam, and am very impressed with it.

No blinky modes, nice finish, about $43.

I read its more of a thrower?
