Home Depot Deal Alerts & Discussion Thread

It’s funny, a couple of posts ago I was soooooo pleased with myself by deducing that my local store had more of the bags in stock even though the shelf was bare.
As Lasy-R-us schooled us on, is all you have to do is ask.

Well, yesterday I asked! I asked customer service to check for stock in local stores for 2 items.

1001-397-206 The 10’ Husky bag ($1.32)

1001-396-908 The 850 Lumen Defiant 3C flashlight ($3.32)

The guy behind the service desk told me all stores are out of stock, EXCEPT for the store in Orange, CT

They had 39 of the bags and 29 of the flashlights. WOW!
So I went outside and checked the distance to that store, 23 miles. I’ll travel that far, no problem.
When I got there 20 minutes later I first checked the floor for either item. I didn’t expect to find them, and I didn’t. Then I started checking the overheads for 2 large boxes. From the numbers, 39 and 29, it sounded like I should be looking for full unopened cases.
I couldn’t find the flashlights, but I did find the bags. Here they are in isle 9 of hardware.

So I asked a guy to pull them down for me while I went to get a flat bed.
There it is, the whole display, it had never been set up.

I’m sure some here (most) think I’m crazy. This should remove any doubt.
10 to a flat and 4 flats on the flat bed!

As I went up to the register, the girl saw me and exclaimed “You FOUND them, WHERE were they?”
I answered “YOU know about these?” and she said yes, we ALL know about these, WHERE were they??
Just then another guy came over and said, yes we have been looking all over for these, we knew we had them, but couldn’t find them.
I offered to leave some, but everyone declined.
Then I asked him if he knew about the flashlights, he quickly asked if I meant the 850 Lumen 3C Defiants. I said yes. He told me they have been looking for those too. So I paid for the bags, that whole flatbed worth cost $52.80 :innocent: and left them with the checkout girl while the HD guy and I searched the entire store, high and low. He seemed as excited as I looking for them.
I learned a few things from him as we searched. For instance, inventory showed 39 bags even though there were 40 in the case. 1 is subtracted from the actual 40 to be displayed. That meant we were looking for a full box of 30 flashlights, because inventory showed 29.
Also the box would have the number 25 on it in big numerals indicating that it was meant for hardware.

AND, the HD guys on the floor with their hand scanners can check when an item was last sold. In the case of the 3C Defiant, one was last sold a week ago.
We spent a half hour together looking. Of course he had to break off and I spent another half hour checking the rest of the store.
I know what size box to look for and the markings it should have, but I just couldn’t find it.
Those flashlights are what I REALLY wanted, but all I got was the bags.
WHAT AM I GOING TO DO WITH ALL?
I did manage to get them all to fit.

Why everyone needs at least 10 of these small tool bags.

1. It’s a tool bag!.

2. For a small job one can be used to carry the specific tools and parts to do the repair at the site.

3. Use one for your prepacked “go” bag.

4. Use one for your toiletries on a vacation.

5. Use one for your tablet, charging cables, powerbanks, electronics, etc.

6. Keep your favorite flashlight, charger and batteries in one.

7. Use one as a man purse.

8. Carry one in the car to stuff receipts in for tax purposes.

9. Use one for a lunchbox.

10. In my van I have one setup with a boost charger and cables, one with some 12v droplights, one to carry my registration and insurance papers. I have another in the back of the van with safety flares and warning signs. Another is full of bungee cords, etc. etc,

does anybody have any other ideas?

I would like also note how easy it was for you to thank him for his efforts. It's amazing how simple that is...

If I ever get the time to go and get lucky enough to find a deal like that, I will buy us all a few.

Way to put in the leg work on this one.. enjoy the spoils... I will thank as well. Now I just got to find a way to get out of work lol

Picked these up this AM, saw the date on the box and checked one of the lights and it was a penny…. Sooooo I went back to the clearance rack and a MET team guy was standing there scanning stuff. Soooo I started talking to him about the incoming inclement weather, while talking to him I loaded the rest of those lights into my cart and once we finished our conversation I headed to the SCO… Lucky for me no one was around because certainly they would have offered to help as these boxes were very big. So I scanned em all (which was a challenge due to their size, I wish they would add a handheld scanner to the SCO lol) and walked out!

I was there checking on some area rugs at the 4 and 3 price, and saw these lights. Also DCH that compressor you posted is not clearence here, I need one to air up tires and such. SO I will have to watch out for it. I know where a bunch of these lights are at another HD but they are up in the overhead and I would not be able to climb up and get them without drawing some attention.

The screenshots are only Dewalt and Husky clearance, I was looking for some of those tool bags (not that I need any).

Just from an organisational standpoint i would buy everyone also. I struggle with places to store power tool accessories, blades, bits, etc. I have tons of shelving, but most jobs happen away from shelves… Unless you’re building shelves of course.

Likewise in the house being able to organise small stuff. The sheer amount of small things like adapters and chargers i cant seem to ever organise is astounding.

If i had 100 of those bags, i could find a use for them all.

If i find any I’m going to use them for my growing army of RC toys. Bins just aren’t easy to carry around.

There had to go back and add photos, the first batch I put up was all the same photo of the receipt.

Congratulations on the lights.!!!
I was wondering how you got them scanned, being so large and all. :+1:

Tell me more about those screen shots. I still have never seen a setup like that in a store. I would LOVE to has access to one of those.
I can make out “HomeDepot.com” in the URL, but everything after that is not clear. Maybe it is online and a username and password is needed?

Anyway, that compressor is on clearance, just hasn’t dropped as far. Do you remember the 8 gallon compressor I scored for a penny awhile back? There is a story behind how I got THAT done.

You mean maybe I’m not crazy

I was nervous about the lights, they consumed the entire buggie and the bottom rack… I lucked out and there wasn’t any cashiers near the SCO, I had planned on “looking” at tools for an extended period of time incase there was a cashier at the SCO, until they walked away.

The screenshot is super easy to look up. BUT you can only do it in store! Which is not a problem if you know which computers you can and can’t use. All of the HD’s have in store PC’s the public is allowed to use, if you walk around the store and see one facing outwards towards the isle, typically these are “public access” also at the front of the store there is a PC you can use to “fill out an application” however it is typically at the pro desk or customer service. Those 2 areas are high traffic areas and I have not nor do I recommend using these for the purpose of our endeavors. I use several computers in the store, depending on which one I’m at, there is a computer in the lighting section, appliances, doors, tools, they’re everywhere you just need to find a low volume spot… If you’re asked about your business on the computer, simply reply “I was checking to see if another store had stock of an item” This app on the computer will save you a ton of time and leg work, also it’s easier to stay organized and you will no longer need to ask an employee to check stock ( I’ve posted these screen shots in the past, but will gladly explain further)

So walk up to a computer and they are in “sleep mode” move the mouse around and the desktop pops up.
Locate the icon that says price check, double click that and it opens up a website (the site ONLY works in store on their PC)
once its open there is a search bar, type in whatever you want… I search brands, if you type LED its hundreds of pages so narrow it down.

After you search say Dewalt. Click on the icon at the top left that says “refine results”

Another page opens and you will click “clearance” on the bottom right

Then click “back to list” top left of the page

It takes you back to the list of swag, you can look at all the prices and items, if you see something you want say at the “3” price you can click on the item and it will have an inventory on the left side as well as local stores (you can change the store you search too)

try it out and see, the penny stuff doesnt show up, but the 2 and 3 price does so you can track stuff…

let me know if you have any ?s

I just checked both Spartanburg stores to see if they even show stock of those tool bags. Didn't see any at either online.

I may make the short trip tomorrow just to scope things out.

I will be totally new at this but, I have constantly kept up with this thread.

Either my Dad use to say, "you will never win if you don't enter"

^

Cool. I've tried one of the Greenville and a Greer store without any luck. But I was only in those stores once. It's a fun challenge to find penny deals. I think I try more for the challenge than for the deals. Best wishes Terry.

Get a load of this light bulb, 10,000 Lumens!

Now get a load of the price.

One of the 3 way bulbs on this shelf cost me only a penny, but it’s only 1600 Lumen.

I had some extra time and was passing one of my local Home Depots the other day and scored four of the Milwaukee twin pack screwdrivers. I saw them on a hanger with a slash of yellow tape through the regular price. I got some a while ago at the 3 price at my work HD, but the two stores do not seem to follow the same schedule. (They still have Energizer Weather Ready lanterns at full price here (I checked) I cleaned out my work HD months ago.) So I took one to the self price check, and had to keep myself from running back to the display. I grabbed all four, rang them up, paying cash, and took them out to my car. Then came back in and paid special attention to the other items with a yellow slash through the prices - NONE of which price checked to a lower price.

Let’s see if I can get this cursed picture posting to work:

The yellow slash I believe means that they have been inventoried. I see that yellow tape on items that are not in their usual or proper location.
Consider yourself lucky on that find, they must have been at the 3 or 2 price when they were inventoried and pennied out just recently.

I was definitely not as fortunate as you. I had to pay the 4 price, $7.54 for each of the 4 I got. I never saw one even at the 2 price! A friend that just loves anything Milwaukee asked me to pick them up as his HD didn’t even have the twin packs.

BTW, this same screw driver sold singly is $7.97 in some stores and $9.97 on others.

I took my second crack at the Spartanburg store over by Star lanes, I found every bag but the 10 inch, I fianlly got tired of looking and just walked up and asked somebody if they were sold out. She looked it up and it seems that store never carried the 10in, so struck out there.

I am nowhere near to being finished. I am going to try to get over to both Spartanburg stores enough to be on top of these things...

The stores are huge and my wife still does not quite understand what to look for. No plans of giving up though...

When I read that, I doubted it very much. So I checked.

Just as an example of how powerful search can be with the tools we have available, and how a little bit of effort can bring results, I decided to call that store and ask myself.
BUT, there are 2 Home Depots in Spartanburg, SC :stuck_out_tongue:
You mentioned that it was the one “over by Star Lanes. So I ran Google Earth and with my ”3DConnexion SpaceNavigator”:http://www.3dconnexion.com/products/spacemouse/spacenavigator.html contoller flew on over to the HD at 2300 East Main. As I was “flying” around, I could see Star Lanes across the street, so the East Spartanburg store is the one you meant. Then I got the phone number from HomeDepot.com and called the service desk. I asked them to check an item for stock.
Then I explained that the item is on clearance and it will not show up on the website, you need to use the store inventory system.
Had I not mentioned that, he might have merely looked on HomeDepot.com. Clearance items do not show up on the web site
Anyway, after I gave him the item #, 1001-397-206 he said that should be in Hardware, but then added, we have no stock. :frowning:

But part of the reason for this call was to check and see if what the girl earlier said to you was true, “that store never carried the 10in”

I went one step further and asked him when was the last one was sold?
After a few seconds he answered, February 19th.
So, that store DID have them, they just sold out very early on! Why?, who knows.

That’s right, don’t give up

No worries... one of the 2 stores I have a good layout of. I also noticed who was paying attention to me as well as who was happy to check an item to see if it was in stock. Now it's time to let them get comfortable seeing me. Normally I just go to lowes here in town or Ace hardware. Now I'm going to just make that short trip. If they are like the emplyees at my local lowes they will soon not even pay attention to me unless I ask lol. They guys at lowes here in town have learned the more I'm left alone the more I seem to buy lol.

I was in a HUGE hurry when I answered you last post... My fie and I are starting an Amazon store and have almost no time to slow down, I want to have it running full bore in about 4 weeks. Wholesalers are being a pain and so far only 1 flashlight company is willing to be decent.

My point is I did not take time to thank you fort taking time and helping me out. I appreciate that very much no matter what the reason.

Anytime I get luck enough to find a deal like the one of those tool bags, they will go to our store and priced at a fair price. Of course there is no way I can find enough to stay in business, but deals like that I can make a decent profit and pass a very fair price on to someone else.

I will be watching those 2 stores constantly now.

Thank you very much for your help.

Terry
