I found 3 ryobi 40v packs last week at home depot one person saw me bagging them up and walk away and said did he just steal those. I keep on walking. I always walk up with a bag with something in it so I can dig. And walk away with a bag of stuff if need be.even at best buy I turn my back between me and the bin fiddle with the bags then shine my phone light down in the rubber flaps and look around. Of I see something I grab it and walk and donāt turn or look back. What are they going to do to me? They still get their tax credit for participating in recycling its not determined by how much they return just that they are enrolled in it I use to work at Lowes. Its not stealing because its recycling bin. But store policy was if we say someone in the store actually stealing stuff we werenāt allowed to say anything to them or touch them in anyway but go to a manager. If you need a cover story to go into the bins. 1) my brother dropped off the wrong batteries he recycled my good ones not my dead ones.
2) Iām with the technology dept at (insert local community college) we use these to teach the students robotics building and skills. I was happy I found the packs but not so happy to find it only has 1300mah cells the smaller tool packs are the way to go. I just got into after a week. My boss helped me there was two tiny security screws I didnāt have a bit for. Lowest I had was a t 15 needed a t-10 so now this weekend Iāll test all 60 cells and see whatās worth keeping. If anything I have a lifetime of free vaping cells. Save my good bought cells for lights
generic hp pr06 replacement.
was doa.
battmon showed 6.7v and it did not rise after 7 hours.wear level 100%.
so the bms could not trickle them back.
cells were surprise! samsung icr18650-22fm.dated 2012
all at 2.35v
i set all 3 pairs into a tp4056 based homebrew charger all in parallel.
after 5 hours of trickle they went to 1a.
the cells are still like new.the bms had locked out.
an odd case where an aftermarket pack had good cells.
and the low voltage kept them fresh.
seller was good about the situation and promptly refunded the transaction and said to recycle the pack.
i did:-)
I got some pink Samsung ICR18650-26Fās from a used tool battery pack.
They charged upto ~2200mhA-ish (far from 2600mAh when new) in my XTAR VC2 (they were not hot at all when charging, at 0.5V)
Maybe itās a wrong impression, but I found they ran my Convoy S3 (8x7135) a tad hotter than other 18650ās I have (Or I forgot how hot this light can get )
Need to double-check that!
As internal resistance goes up, cell running temp goes up. The more cells are used (in the lifetime sense) the more resistance they develop.
So no mystery about running temp of cells. But maybe you were saying the leds are running with more power aka hotter?
If you live in Cannuckistan and you cant get your light to chooch Ave is you man!
Yes I mean the flashlight gets hotter to the touch, and quicker, even in medium mode. So yes, those cells are well used, I will not use them in the summer for sure
that means these cells are better than your others.
measure your tailcap current.bet its higher.
this is a good thing.they are not well used they are better.
Will have to try that
Hadnāt seen anything in weeks but then 2 in one day
Lenovo Thinkpad 45N1001 6 Red w blue top SANYO UR18650FM R1122 (2600 mAh)
Xbox 360 controller battery pack with 2 NIMH Sanyo AAās (2100 mAh)
WOW!!!
I didnāt even know that 7.5Ah EGO battery existed.
Would you mind posting your find in my thread? I started it when I first found a Ryobi 40V 2-1/2 years ago. At the time I thought THAT was unbelievable.
Look what I found in the recycle bin
You definitely have found the best all time battery as far as I am concerned!
That battery can be ordered at Home Depot and costs a lot of money.
Good seeing people doing sort of the same thing Iām doingā¦
Iāve had moderate success with taking apart some laptop batteries. Iām mostly buying cheap Chinese knockoff packs which actually arenāt as bad as you think. From my 4 different suppliers on ebay, every Chinese cell has managed to get me at least 2000mAh with a 1A draw. Lowest and cheapest cells which when I hit them on the ground, sound like theyāre partially hollow and have another battery inside, achieve over 2000mAh no problem. So thatās kinda strange. Weigh in at 41g and my other suppliers weigh in at 45g which is on part to other brands. Iām actually in the process of using these to build an ebike. 91 cell 48V battery should let me stay under 2.5A per cell so I should have plenty of power and no crazy power draw or anything like thatā¦
Hey Philaphlous, I have been wanting to make an extra battery pack for my 48v ebike. Just curious what method are you planning on using for putting the cells together? Im leaning towards carefully soldering them instead of using a spot welder. Theres a guy on youtube that uses a freeze spray to cool down the cell after soldering or spot welding. My battery pack I bought with my ebike kit has 52 cells but I bet 91 cells will get killer range.
I just picked up a 60w soldering iron. Tested it last nightā¦gosh got it way too hot, apparently it has a temp controller, whops. The 60/40 solder was charring it was getting so hot. lol. I found someone on endless sphere that used 3.5mm solder wick as the main voltage lines for the cells so Iām going that route. I hope 10ft of that stuff is enough for 91 cells. Iām pulling either old laptop battery packs or new cheap Chinese packs out and spreading the brand name with the chinese cells to try and even out the voltage sag because Iām sure Iām going to get that. Hopefully I can keep each of the 13 banks balanced or else its going to take like days for my BMS to balance everything. lolā¦
I might chill my batteries before I solder them but Iāve read that thermal shock also degrades cells so Iām not sure yet. I have a 120mm computer fan to evac the soldering fumesā¦
Itās going to take forever to put it together but I think I have a great design. Iāll post my build on here once I have everything. Still 1-2 weeks out for my BMS. My battery isnāt the most robust and Iām going to have to keep my wattage under 800w draw. <3A per cell.
Ive read so many conflicting things on what degrades the cells I just feel like if I can get free cells from laptop pulls and get only 100 or even 50 cycles Id be happy just because I made it and it works. Of course, I dont want a fire either. I also came across an interesting video on youtube about not using a bms at all would be beneficial by using a balance charger here:
Im considering going this route but those balance chargers are kinda pricey.
Anyways, I have never tried going to home depot to check the recycling for batteries. I think I might try sometime this week.
I havenāt gone quite that far to check HD or any other place for old cells but I did pick up a few used laptop packs off ebay. Moderate success. LG cells get me about 2200-2400mAh while the other LG cells get only about 1400mAh and the Samsung cells were completely bad with only about 200mAh usable.
Yea its about $1.5/cell for the 2000mAh Chinese cells but theyāre consistent in their voltage drops, capacity, and I know they havenāt seen either extreme loads or heat that could potentially damage the cells. Iām hoping that my commute wonāt fully drain the battery pack as my charger is only a 2.5A 48V charger so thatāll take forever to recharge plus I hope to keep the discharge depth to a minimum. Iām in-between jobs right now and so once I nail down a new job Iāll go full steam ahead on this idea. I may be moving, may live closer to my work, may end up absolutely needing to bike to work with outrageous parking pricesā¦who knows right nowā¦
Well I wish you the best of luck with the job hunting. I actually sold my car and got an ebike kit so I can do the 2 mile commute to and from work. Its working out great so far however the weather forecast is showing 105 degrees on Wednesday so that might make me regret my decision. Well see.
Oh yea! Broke open a genuine Dell and genuine lenovo laptop battery pack. The dell came with LGDBB31865. Charging one up to test the capacity. ALSO, wait for it! Panasonic NCR18650D cells! 2700mAh cells. woohoo! All 3.6-3.83V which means theyāre all good! Testing out the Chinese cells again. Just realized my imax B6 is recording the voltages pretty far under what the cell is currently at. Iām using both a multimeter and the Imax. Imax says 3.56V right now and multimeter on the cell says 3.71Vā¦dangā¦ Definitely more capacity in these cells than I think. Now after this run Iāll test the 1A draw to make sure its really 1A or else Iām screwedā¦lol
either you have a fake b6 or a lot of resistance in the leads/holder.
maybe both.
