Lux-Pro LP130 Nichia 219c

Got this little fella today for moddin’ , Lux-Pro LP130 , a small zoomie light powered by four LR44 button cells.

Not very good output, tint or beam with the stock strawhat type emitter but it only cost $6 and is fairly well made.

I measured 24lm and 10lm zoomed with the button cells.

This light needs an emitter change and a 10250 li-ion cell in there…

I had an old XP-E emitter that I thought I would try in this so set about the installation bearing in mind for some reason that I wanted the LED to sit just under the aspheric and found a nice thick aluminium MCPCB that would make it just the right height with a press fitted copper disc for connecting the negative to.

Well, after all this work and rebuilding the light I found that it was well out of focus, I couldn’t get the emitter die to project to full intensity, the LED needed to be sitting at least 2mm further back :laughing: :open_mouth: :cry: :weary:

So I had to rip all that out to start again, drill a bigger hole in the pill and press fit a 10mm sinkpad so it’s flush with the original shelf and a nice Nichia 219c D320 5000k emitter this time, potted with silicone carbide mix… again…

There were a few moments where I was feeling that this one would have to be abandoned, especially after bending the pill out of shape but I persevered as usual :+1:

I used a thicker o-ring on the bezel to give more length and the ability to tune the projection some

The light now is powered by a 10250 MBI Nuke giving 306lm and 120lm respectively

Nice mod, and a good inspiration, I have two of those little lights as well (red ano’ed), and am still thinking about what and how to put in.

Well it didn’t last very long mate, it was destroyed in the re re build due to me being slightly annoyed but I was going to say to Djozz that the XP-E was not very good, maybe an XP-E2 would be better.

I did play around with it for a little while and this particular plano aspheric did not seem to like the emitter at all, this might be more suited to a larger die emitter.

@Djozz, have you measured the output on your samples? Just curious.

In flood it is 45 lumens at start, but nose-diving from switch-on, under 40 within 20 seconds. Not battery-drain but actually thermal sag at 45 lumen :partying_face: . In spot there’s some 15 lumen leftover.

Thanks. Just checked the buttoncells voltage, 1.45v each may be why I got low numbers before the mod.

Yeah, I think the ideal position for the MCPCB would be pressed up right under the existing shelf but the wires would be in the way so would either need to alter it to accomodate or take the wires through the back of the board, I’m sure someone did that before.

Well, I never got mine to fully focus. I made a custom driver board in Eagle, but upon looking at it again, it wasn’t going to work, so I did what I did. But, the custom board was meant to go under the shelf, as you said.

Yeah, and I’m still planning on fixing the mix-up on my board, re-uploading to OSH-Park, and one day ordering it so that I can do the mod I originally wanted to do with mine! (But with another one - no use tearing up the work I’ve done if it works)

I’d like to see that, did you have some sort of regulation in mind like a dual MCPCB driver combo?

I made a PCB design in Eagle that had driver on one side and XP footprint on the other side. It has been uploaded to OSH Park so anybody can get it if they want. My error was that it’s too big to fit in the bottom of the pill. I somehow got myself mixed up. The top of the pill has ~12.5mm and the bottom has ~11mm. The way my driver board is made, it will sit in the top, and the LED will be facing up as it should be. But, the pressure from beneath would push it out of the pill. Plus, being on the top would still have the LED out of focus. So, it needs to be re-fashioned to fit in the bottom instead. Here’s the link. Post #62 is the latest revision.
