Any Victorinox/Wenger fans?

I

If I am going to carry around a larger SAK the Evogrip 16 is a good size. I have not carried around a knife of this size since around 1994. My elderly in laws have something to fix at their house often so I take this knife or a Leatherman Blast to fix things on the fly when visiting. The Ganzo multi-tools just do not cut the mustard.

Has anybody modded a SAK with a LED, e.g. a spartan light?

Much lower price than Amazon.

I would like to hear about Spartan Lite mods.

Guess Ive gotten out of the loop……. havent seen one of those. Its Puuuurdy!

I didn’t know that. Thanks for the info. Wish I’d kept the big Wenger tent I had. Sold it at a loss to a friend who was taking his family on a trip to California. At least I still have the nice thick down sleeping bag.

How I’d love to pack up my gear and head off somewhere to spend a week away from the city, fishing and spending time with friends surrounded by trees and try out the gear I’ve accumulated. Molle pack on gen iv frame with custom lashing straps and gear ready to pack. Unfortunately no takers among my friends and it seems a bit foolish to make such a trip alone.

The victorinox tinker may be the most perfect pocket knife I’ve ever owned. It’s size and weight for utility is unmatched imo. If you go with a third layer sak you may as well get a leatherman juice sized multitool because of thickness inside the pocket. I have a deluxe tinker that collects dust for that reason. The tinker is just perfection though love love love that knife.

@264 the knife to the left in the op image reminds me of a sak I bought in germany during the 80s. I hope they improved the steel of the tweezers since then. Grey insert was twezers, off-white was toothpick. I suspect if I saw it opened it would be the same as what I had back then. Unfortunately the one I had didn’t hold an edge very well. Hope they also improved the blade steel.

I kind of doubt they did mine were bought in the 90s and early 2000s. They don’t hold an edge all that long but never even think about rusting. Sharpen very easily, certainly an adequate steel for carry always use occasionally role.

This is what the two larger knives look like opened up Tekwyzrd. I got these images off the internet. Wonder if the corkscrew will be phased out from the larger knives in the near future. Looks like winemakers followed the lead from Thunderbird and Maddog 20/20 brands (ha ha) and are no longer using cork to seal wine bottles. Most likely the wild (Quercus suber) is happy about that.

I have about 40 SAKs and the Tinker is my go-to favorite as well.

Some of my SAKs, the Climber was my first good swiss army knife, bought in 1994, is yet in good condition.

Re: natural corks & their demise. My wife works for a winery here in Napa. The industry has been switching to synthetic corks and screw-tops due to the risk of importing contaminated cork. They were worried about bugs etc. that might attack local plants, trees, VINES etc. I think the higher end wines will probably keep using synthetic corks for nostalgic reasons and the “table” wines will go screw-top. The SAK corkscrew will likely continue to have a place as long as good wine has a “cork” even though they won’t always be cork.

Love SAKs! Very utilitarian. I was on the Victorinox side of the fence, but it seems they joined!

I might have the model names mixed up, but my most used were Classic, Farmer, and I believe the Hiker (camper? backpacker? umm…)? Classic is so useful I feel naked without it, and so small I could still feel naked with it :P. Farmer has those nice alox scales, stouter blade, and boy howdy have you tried the awl on this one? Great crafter, even the lanyard hole is sharp enough to scrape wood. Hiker, I could be wrong on name, is a nice all in one package out in the woods, lots of stuff without lots of fluff. My first knife was a GAK, if I have the name right, and that was a robust beauty, kinda inbetween the alox and celox (sorry brainfart cant remember name for ‘plastic’ handles), and had a quirky shaped but aggressive saw with built in bottle opener, ha! I know the highly polished finishes have a purpose, but I like to rough up the edges of the screw driver for example, so it grips better.

I haven’t purchased any recently, but when I was in collector mode, I was most happy to support FelineVet. It’s been a long time so please forgive me if I’m wrong, but I believe he bought TSA confiscated SAKs in bulk and sold them very inexpensively after qc check, in order to help fund veterinary procedures for people’s pets who could not otherwise afford the health care. It was a side project, to his veterinary practice. I remember considering him one of the good guys who I was not only happy to do business with, but along with a great deal I got a bonus pride boost for helping out a good cause :+1: I hope they’re still in business and continue working their magic for their respective communities!
…Hmm… ok just looked, it seems their shop is not found, but I hope it’s just temporary! It’s still listed here

and another good group if you like SAKs is SOSAK

I have carried an Executive victorinox for almost 30 years I don’t think they make that model I need to send it back for a freshen up. Its been back to CT about 7x for a quickie always comes back like brand new.

Hi Trevi_Lux

Do you know if models like the Pioneer Alox still have beefier tools than most of the other knives? I purchased a couple of Pioneer Alox knives in the early 1980’s. Knife was not called a Pioneer alox then. Can not remember the name used. Thanks.

How you can survive without corkscrew?

My EDC

Never needed a cork screw just bang the bottom of the bottle on a post the cork will pop with little or no loss of wine. Or just drink some single barrel bourbon no problem getting the cork out then. lol
