Designing a Flashlight 7/15 update!

I like the design a lot, am also a clicky fan, looking forward to how it develops!

Hi,

A couple of comments here:

- For the tail, can you do “notches” instead of it being fully circular. I am wondering if the button may be too deep, making it hard to click, but by having the notches on opposing sides, it’s easier to click?

- Any possiblity of some knurling on the body?

I like it! Looks to be a smooth, flowing design. Keep it that way.
Less is many times more. There is a lot to be said for that.

It’s a great looking flashlight. I’m not sure I would change anything.

i like the basic, straightforward design.

brass makes it high end to me… and i am getting use to the “little triple carlco” design getting popular around the site. power, some flood, some throw.

looks like a solid straightforward design. good show.

ps - your voice sounds good now. (wink)

good video, and a great approach

Nice light! I would keep the design. Maybe end the battery tube with a ring instead of a recess near the head, to make the transition to the head more fluent.

I would open up the inside diameter of the bezel so the optic isn’t being blocked so much.
Here’s a pic of Jerommel’s giveaway triple with a nice exposed optic.

The rest of the design looks awesome.

Thank you all so much! Getting this kind of feed back from people I know have their finger on the pulse of this industry is really encouraging.

Hmmm. I hadn’t considered that. The switch feels decent, but not as good as a raised. This might be a good way to split the difference. I’m not sure about knurl on this one, but I have imagined it in a few places.

Good point. I can see the advantage. What is the max OD of the head on that light? Do you happen to know what size the glass lens is?

“Just my .02”, but the switch looks easy enough to operate as is and knurling is just gonna mess up the “smooth flow” I mentioned above without much real world value anyway.

As it’s your custom design you pretty much have a clean slate to craft with. I’d think what can I build that no one else has? Full uncluttered optics, nice straight or so body for holster carry. Slight grooves on the head to easy pulling out of pockets or holsters. Simple two or three modes well spaced. Maybe custom heads; one in a triple, one as a single, different uses different heads. A niche nobody has filled yet is 20700 with an 18650 sleeve. Make options so a buyer could semi customize; aluminum, brass and stainless steel bezels, tail cap maybe the body. With the BLF A6/Astrolux S41 I’ve got at least three heads, seven bodies and three tail caps.

I’ve tried it ain’t easy to get something from paper to reality. You seem better prepared and skilled to pull it off good luck.

I wouldn’t hack on the tail .Anyone who can’t click a clicky without cut outs has real issues . cutting into the tail means the light ends up with problems tail-standing and adds at least 4 sharp edges .i think this cut out tail thing is a bad fad that hopefully will go away soon .

I have added the latest updates to the top of the OP.

I think by opening up that S2+, you sacrifice the o-ring so it isn’t water resistant anymore

Sorry I just noticed this question. I’m not sure the specifics, or if its practical (may have to give up a little visible optic for waterproofing). The smaller oring you came up with sounds like it may be a good compromise. I just saw that picture and thought it looked nice.

I just saw your latest video and your thoughts on a pocket clip. I agree with you that a snap on clip would be nice. I really like the snap on clips that come on the eagle eye x6. They are stainless steel, are a lot more robust that the convoy clips, and have a little smaller ID. They may fit perfect on your light. I don’t know how you’d go about ordering them by themselves though.

I like the rounded cooling fins on version 2. Both versions look awesome. Are you planing on making each one by hand? or settle on a good design and mass produce? It might be cool if they were all a little different.

Once I settle on a design I will have them run on a CNC… Semi mass produced I’d say.

Looking good VoB… either one.
I love the “clean, uncluttered design”. I, like you; do not care for a clip either… so as you mentioned……. no holes.

Update posted.

Gotta keep an eye on this. He does great work, had him chop a C mag down to 26650, and you would have thought it was a factory job

The presale for these lights has now begun!
