This little AA x 4 powered light comes in neutral or cool white with XP-L HI emitter. There is also a XP-L V6 version of the light with both choices of emitter in it if desired.
I was actually pleasantly surprised with this light when I got it out and started looking it over , as it is more compact than I had expected. I was even more surprised when I put the cells in it and turned the light on outside. I never thought I would be able to see one of my markers out at 400 yards (18 x 24 inch white marker) with the compact AA powered light , but not only could I see it , I could see it and the surrounding trees pretty well.
The build quality is what I would expect from ThruNite , with the Anodizing being very clean on the light with no marks , bare spots , or sharp edges. The threads are very smooth and well cut and the AR lens in this light was just crystal clear when I took it out of the package.
The TN4A HI has a very good feel in the hand as it is not too small nor is it too large and fits just right when you pick it up (at least in my hands). This is basically a larger diameter tube light , as it is the same diameter all the way from the tail to the head. The switch is easy to locate , as it has just a slightly raised edge on either side of the switch button , so if you pick the light up in the dark and run your thumb around the tube you will feel when you get to the switch pretty easily. Once the light is turned on , you of course have the indicator light , so it is illuminated in blue and very easy to see. That same indicator light is also a Low Voltage indicator as it will turn to red when the cells start getting depleted. The modes are from Firefly (long press from off) to Low / Medium / High / Turbo (quick double click to turbo ,even directly from “off”) and then another quick double click if you want to go into the hidden strobe. A single click gets you back to normal modes and the light does have memory for the Low , Medium and High settings. I have not had this light step down as of yet , but I have not used it on a really warm night yet , so I will have to see what happens with warmer weather than what we have had so far. I used the light up to about 45 minutes continuous on turbo (outside in cooler weather on NiMH cells) and it never stepped down , but the light never really got what I would call hot either , as I could grab it by the head end , without worrying about getting burned (although it was on the hotter side of warm). The light does have what ThruNite calls “ITC” (Intelligent Thermal Control) which is basically the same as what we usually hear called “turbo step down”. I have used the regular AA and the NiMh cells and both perform pretty well in this light , although the regular AA alkaline do run down quicker than the NiMH. I actually do not have any Eneloops (gonna get some of those soon) but I figure they should work well also.

This is one light that you would not have to worry about gifting or handing to someone that is not familiar with Li-ion safety and they could have a powerful little thrower in their hands to go out and see the world with at night.
Overall I am really impressed with this light as the fit , feel and finish are all top notch and it is powerful to be a AA powered light , with some pretty good runtimes. Although I have not done an extensive test , I did get 48 minutes from a fresh set of the Duracell copper top cells on Turbo (light switched off a couple of times for a short period) (listed at 56 min. with NiMH 2500mAh) and with another fresh set of the Duracell copper top , I got 137 minutes on high mode. (light also switched off a few times during this test) (listed at 150 min. with NiMH 2500mAh)

As I usually mention , my cheap video camera does not show nearly as true to life as the still photos do in the slide portion of the video. The still photos are much closer to what I actually see out there than the video is.
For those who do not want to watch the whole video , the still shots , teardown of the light and the beamshots start at 7:28 in the timeline and the outside live footage with a BLF D80 and a Convoy L4 for comparison , start at 11:49 in the time line.

I also need to correct what I mentioned about the L4 in the outside footage. That light DOES NOT have a FET driver in it , although it HAS been modded. It has the stock driver with a slight current bump , spring bypasses at both ends and a dedomed XM-L2 U4 1A on a Noctigon MCPCB.

•Memory Function
The light will turn on in the last mode accessed, except for Firefly, Turbo and Strobe.
•ITC Technology
The light will automatically lower the current when temperature in LED or driver rises to 80 degrees centigrade to protect the flashlight from overheating.
Thus to extend its lifespan.
•Battery Replacement
Unscrew and take off the body near the head, insert four AA batteries into the battery carrier, put the carrier into the flashlight and screw on the body.
With either end of the battery carrier towards the light head is OK. But make sure the batteries are correctly inserted into the carrier
with polarities matched (springs on the carrier should connect with the cathodes of batteries).
•Low Voltage Indication
When the indicating light on the switch turns from blue to red, it means the batteries should be replaced.

It was brought to my attention that I had the wrong video in this review and in fact had a totally different light linked to this review.
That issue has been corrected now and My apologies to anyone that may have wanted to see this video review before now.

The TN4A HI is an excellent light all around, never fails to impress me no matter how often I use it.

I actually found this video on YouTube before I bought the light. It helped me make my decision. It’s my favourite light right now. Thanks.

FYI, you have it posted on the AAA section so you may not get as many responses.

Glad the video could help and always glad to do the reviews.

I think I got it moved over to the AA section now….Thx for the heads up.

This light has such an impressive performance/price/quality mix that I’m surprised it isn’t generating more interest. I’ve used it a bunch now, both on long walks and tailstanding as an early morning light. It’s just superb.

The Manker Mk41 now throws a bit farther on unprotected 14500’s. But that adds extra cost if you don’t already have an extra matching set. On nimh the Thrunite still wins there. I’d buy mine again in a heartbeat.
