Change:
From:
4 only for progress in projects that are meant to lead to a real flashlight for all to buy.
To:
4a primarily for progress in projects that are meant to lead to a real flashlight for all to buy.
4b the funds are growing so fast, a part also for support of driver developers for down the road these projects can be used in BLF specials
Reason, we do not know what will be used in BLF specials and even Narsil and Bistro started smaller.
Though all developers that are doing their work open source seem happy in doing so, financial rewards or a little donation are no motivations for them. The big projects can get so much attention it seems nice to give others a small token of BLF appreciation making them able to do a Oshpark order or use it for tools or something, knowing they are seen and speeding things up as among others the Kronos projects and Q8 have sped things up too.
:+1: thank you for creating BLF tech.
You guys are the core why manufacturers take us serious as a group with real information and input and not just a forum of consumers.
It is the likes of you that are making it possible for people like me to dare ask manufacturers to look at an idea and thus making BLF specials possible, not to mention the coolness of what gets done with super firmware, lighted tailcaps and what not
So thank you again!
Pretty cool you wanna do a GAW! do people who donated to the funds and enter an extra chance?
So Miller talked you into giving your donation away. Iāll have a few words with him for you and give him a good piece of my mind. He wont be doing that again.
Thanks for the donation, The Miller! :money_mouth_face:
Mike C, I didnāt think I deserved to be on the list of recipients, but you sure do. Your work around here is undervalued, IMHO. Nobody talks much about your contributions, but IIRC youāre actually the guy responsible for a lot of the coolest ideas, like 3+ channel drivers for better efficiency. Itās cool youāre going to āgive backā your donation by building drivers and doing a giveaway. It reminds me of Old Lumens in a way. He had received lots of flashlights from manufacturers for reviewing over the years, and he never kept them, but always did a giveaway here.
Also, I want to take the time to say thanks to everybody that donated. I hope you all feel good about the decision The Miller made here. Iāll try to make sure whatever I do is a push forward for BLF somehow. Iāve learned so much in my time at BLF, that I canāt possibly pay back for the knowledge Iāve gained. I wouldnāt even be doing these kinds of mods, or designing my own boards, if it werenāt for the inspiration and encouragement of my fellow BLFāers.
Iāve already got a GAW going right now (gonna end today). So, in an effort to āgive backā my donation, I think Iāll try designing another crazy, cool, or niche driver board. My reasoning is that itās the guys on the fringe, making the niche items, that push most crafts forward in life. So maybe Iāll find another nifty host and make a driver for it. Then, if the build goes to plan, Iāll do a GAW of the modded light. The donation money will help me buy the board from OSH Park and the components to populate it, and maybe the host to put it in. I donāt know when Iāll get all this accomplished. Perhaps it will be done in time for my 5000 post GAW!
Thanks for the donation here as well. if we can come up with a good design for a Q8 lantern I could get it 3D printed for testing.
For the Q16, the biggest issue here will be heat shedding. It will need a massive heat sink.
With 4x xhp50.2 or 70.2ās it should easily surpass 15k lumens, with xhp70.2ās it could get close to 20k or more.
The problem is that it would also be pushing upwards of 200-300W worth of power, which is going to get REALLY hot. So figure it will need to be quite large indeed to reach that level.
Honestly Djozzās spotlight idea that was tossed around for the GT at first would be ideal for this, it would allow for an active heatsink (aka a fan) and could actually handle that king of power.
Although it would most certainty not be considered ācheapā by BLF standards even if it was the best bang for the buck around.
Honestly, if something, whatever it ends up being; is the ābest bang for the buckāā¦. āBLF standardsā may have to possibly change a bit.
Many times quality and dirt cheap do not go hand in hand.
Sure, bargain for the absolute best price that can be achieved and then that is what it is. :+1:
IMHO anywayā¦ & I am far from being a monetarily rich man in saying that.
Liquid cooling is way overrated. You still have to transfer the heat to the ambient air and liquid doesnāt help that much. You still need a lot of surface area to do that.
