THIS IS NOT A TN42!!

This was the LED of my TN32. It happened 5 days after getting the light! David, from Thrunite chimed in and was very concerned! lol!

I see, but in my case is quite different. You had a catastrophic failure. Mine remains lite ve very dim (only 3 dies) but the flashlight still works as should be. It seems like a parasitic drain to the led!

You have to do it through a host. Many will work. I use postimage.org which works much better than photobucket,at least for me it does.

-click the INSERT ICON at top of page.
-put image URL in the box
-if picture is too big reduce the size in the “relative width” box
-click OK

Your right. Yours is still defective and unusable. Your entitled to get it replaced.

I feel bad for you. The challenge is getting HKE to replace it.Even in the USA it would cost too much to send it back to China.

An advantage of buying[and living in] from USA dealers is that we do not have to deal w/ China for at least the first 30 days. I have had items replaced for free that were 5 months old!

I hope some others chime in to give you ideas on possibly fixing it. I am a novice when it comes to electronics!

I am good at buying lights and then using them every night to walk my Husky Capo!! ,,,,,,,,,he starts howling/talking about 10 minutes before dark!

^^^ I saw that. That is strange. So it will not go full power like that? It only stays in moonlight w/ 3 of 4 sections lit up?

Exact but lot less than moonlight mode. When turn into normal modes, including moonlight all dies of the led fires ok. So strange and sudden!

Sorry for the confusion I am not very good with english but I will try to explain again. The flashlight does not turn off completely and remains as depicted. That is like a very very low moon mode.

Are all of your cells in properly—— Long click still makes moonlight—double click still goes to Turbo—from turbo short click to off or that almost moonlight (3 dies lit )

Yes the flashlight works properly and the batteries are the same and in the same position as yesterday. The only difference appeared today was this rare impossibility to totally off remaining thi 3 dies lighted ver very dim.

With that said. I am sure you want to know what is causing that. Good news is your light works and ALL you need to do is take the batteries out until your ready to use the light.

Taking the batteries out reminds me of a SEPARATE AND DIFFERENT issue that I have HAD w/ my high powered lights for several years.

Condensation under the lens!

Solution:Silica gel packets in the battery tube and w/ the batteries which are stored in a big pill bottle until they are ready for use. It rarely happens anymore. if it does I just put in a fresh silica gel packet and refresh the other one in the microwave! I have had these packets for over 2 years.

BTW ALL those lights are modified by Vinh[V54] W/ The exception of the OSTS TN31mb which Michael Johnson Modified. Mine was the last one he did[470Kcd]. All others were b/w 390/420Kcd.A new XPG2 S2 bin had come out and I benefited from it! This was in December of 2013.

No, No, No!!! I am sorry for confusing you.

Sooner or later someone will reply on here with a possible reason/solution.

Until then, REMOVE your batteries when you are not using the light!

Ahh!, haha thanks a lot for your effort and support. Now I understand.!

Do all of the dies light up when the light is on? You would need a filter of some kind to be able to look directly at the LED when it’s very bright. I wonder if one of the dies somehow became a short. This would reduce the forward voltage of the LED (and cause that die to not light up) and possibly this caused the issue with glowing while off.

Hi Easy, I used two polarizer filter to look when the light is in moon mode and as far I can tell, all 4 dies lights ok. But I´ll try again.

Yes these 3 dies remain glowing when the light is off. I looked again the led in moonlight mode and I can confirm that 4 dies are lights Ok. So strange…

Wolfdog,,,you misunderstood!! Easy asked to turn light on and see if the same [3 out of 4 dies on] thing happens?!!

Well, I must wait for the knowledge and advice of some of the gurus in modding and electronics. Hope they can help me with this issue…

If all four dies are lighting at power on, I would suspect the e-switch wires maybe pinched or shaved and bleeding power to the emitter, not enough to fully light them when the light is off. There is always a bit of power going to the MCU via the e-switch, hence parasitic drain. There is a mess of wires between the inside of the head and reflector, they pass thru the shelf into the driver below, the ones I modded had sharp edges around this pass thru hole. I’m just guessing, but that is where I would look, first. Maybe remove the e-switch bezel and button and see if wiggling the wires kills the power going to the emitter, might even be the switch contacts on the back of the switch themselves? Then TN42 does have that lighted Blue ring when powered on.

Again just a guess, I haven’t had it happen to me…yet. but I am intrigued!!!

I do not know exactly how that light is designed, but a weak glow in the leds may not be a problem. Modern leds need very little current to glow.
I possible try measuring the tailcap current with the light off, then you can see if the drain is significant for battery life.

Hi HKJ, yes the flashlight seems to perform as should be. But the rare thing appeared suddenly yesterday! It means that something happens…

I removed the e switch bezel with no results so far. A new thing noted is that this dim glow is not constant. I mean that if I look close to the light magnified on the reflector I see some kind of blinking.
