Double lens flashlight with XM-L and big head at kaidomain

That would be a nice mod, I also want a FTT with 26650....

I will let you know the wall thickness once I receive it.

I have just received it, I am in the office and cannot show it right now, I will try to do a review tonight.

The first impression is really good, the body has a really nice feel with a thin layer of rubber on it which makes it really comforable to hold it on our hands.

Threads are quite thick and well machined for a budget light like this.

It came with all the threads quite clean.

Oh dear. That's a deal breaker for me. Its always part rubs through/off and ends up very tatty/

not me, I love rubber! really, I plastidip everything. and I mean everything (even did and entire truck bench seat ). thinned w/ naptha (coleman fuel) it sprays ok through HVLP.

anyway, so great to hear you have it in hand and that's its not junky!

really looking forward to what you have to say. this makes my day.

It is 1PM over here, I will try to do some tests after work, in about...8hrs ( I leave at 7-7.30pm the office).

*VFMaddict, it looks to be well made, I hope it will not wears out in the short term.

I can't wait to hear what you think of it when you pop in a battery and fire it up!

I am as nervous as you waiting to see how it performs!! Haha.

By the way, the rubber cover, looks like can be removed, it is not sticked to the body, but the metal underneath, might scratch easyly as the finish is the typycal anti-slip which might scratch or get dirty easily when exposed directly.

I have fleeting thoughts of stuff like that every (work) day, especially the first few hours of the day

Yeah - I hate when that happens to me :-)

Haha, sorry a lot for the delay guys, I did not get home till now.

I have just checked the flashlight, and I am afraid it is not as good as I expected, it throws roughly as much as the Yezl T9, a bit less I would say.

The focal lenght was not quite well regulated, it does not concentrate the die very good out of the box, I have just raised the position of the first lens, the one closer to the die, and now it is a bit better, but not even with this it throws much further, it throws roughly 350m with a bigger spot than on the T9.

On the flood part of it, the image is not fully clear, as with single aspherics, there is an external ring clearly more bright, and the area it covers is slightly smaller than the Yezl.

The flood to throw system is not that good, as the head doesn't run over a tube surface, it bounces a bit if you try to push it with one finger, it has to be done with one hand.

I will try to get some pics tomorrow, sorry but I am a bit tired and it is 12:32AM over here, and I need to sleep hehe.

The lens diameter is around 44.6mm and 10mm thick, I will check for a 44 from Kaidomain if it fits the focal lenght.

The one closer to the led is about 32mm and 6mm thick.

The build quality is good for the price, but the lack of a better throw which was my intention makes it fail for me.

It is a pitty, I was waiting like a child for Santa, but I found my parents preparing the presents, which were not as good as I asked for, telling me I hadn't been a good boy.

haha, good analogy.

well, I bet with some tweaking you'll be happier with it - maybe it is underpowered? Let us know about heatsinking once you've gotten some sleep:)

short term I'm happy about this...if you were raving I'd have to order it. long term I'm disappointed...as I too had high hopes...

Hi Gorann,

From the ones you mention, I`ve got the TR X9 and the TR-1200.

I would say it throws just a bit less than the X9 I've got Direct drived.

The distance I am giving is measured from Google Maps, to a building I can see from my home, and it is at that distance, the way I understand it is the top it can reach is viewing it reflects on windows etc, and moving it from left to right seeng it clearly illuminates it a bit.

I t might not be the best way to measure it, but I haven't got a luxometer..

Doing it in nature would be more accurate yes, in the other hand doing it like I do, has a con, wich is the light pollution from buildings and public lighting.

No, the beam is not as tight as with TR X9, it throws a bigger die square than with other aspherics such as the one on the Yezl T9.

I tested the X9 both DD, and with the Kaidomain V2 driver which is supposed to deliver 3040mAh, on my multimeter it is around 2900mAh I am not sure if the driver is not doing it to the specs, or my multimeter is not that good measuring it with its own wires.

Anyway, if you measured 200-250m with the TR X9, think this one is a bit less than that.

I would recommend you the Yezl more than this one, and if you can improve the lens it is a very nice light, the only one I know right now with a better quality than the one on the Yezl is this one:

http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/small-sun-zyc10s-cree-q5-3mode-zooming-glass-optics-led-flashlight-black-18650-p-8459

There used to be another one as good as that one at Ultraok, but it is no longer available.

Yo can also keep the small-sun, but the build quality is so so in my opinion.

Here you got some pics of it:

I added a piece of wire underneath the first lens to get a more foccused beam:

I have not been able to dissemble the pill yet, it might be glued with thermal glue

The reading is around 2.4A on high, and 1.46 on two batteries.

so you sound a bit disappointed, but it seems like a nice light - decent current, square threads, grippy handle, some aesthetic features w/o being gaudy...

Do the lenses not focus it enough for what you wanted, or do you think the losses through them are too high?

could you measure the lens diameters? I wonder if conveniently sized higher quality replacements are available...

In my opinion the general build quality is good, but what I was llonking for, which is mainly throw is not that good.

The flood is even worst, it is ringy, which is not normal on flood to throw lights.

So, it is a good looking light, with not that good performance, I would recommend a Yetzl T9 instead, which is more compact.

ringy flood?! eeeeewwwwwwwwwww!!!

imho, that's the whole point of xml in FTT...big smooth flood (instead of reflector hot spot) but some throw if needed.

maybe black out that aluminum cup around the first lens?

anyway, scratch this one off the list, thanks for taking one for our wallets!

Z6 is next, but I can't remember who bought it at ~$26...

Try blacking out the aluminum retainer ring - that may me causing some of the artifacts.

If that doesn't help, the issue is likely lenticular.

Yeah, in many cases I’ve figured out the rings are from the design itself and mainly from how the lens is used.
If it were larger and covered the entire end of the flashlight it would be less ringy but many ftt lights use undersized optics and the light hits the edges of the lens because it isn’t extended over the entire front opening.

I will try yeah.

Till now I had only seen rings when trhowing to its maximum on flood to throw lights, this is the first time I see the opposite.
