Official Thread for COMETA Refunding - Problem solving

Where are you getting your Cometa Specs?

From what they were to supposed to do or from what they actually in reality did do?

Oh I don’t doubt they are exactly the same…… Banggood just waited for the “ruckus” to die down a bit.

I’ll have to break both of mine out again and do some testing…. I do not remember my Z1’s being behind the Cometa at all.
Nothing like you are saying anyway…….

Percentages were roughly approximated, but this is what they actually do based on my measurements.

52kcd vs 152kcd (174kcd with braided springs)
891lm vs 1305lm
$92 ($53+ $9 ship, $20 led/driver,$10 lit tailcap) vs $42

Part costs are roughly estimated. Newer Z1’s might be a bit better now if they used higher bins, mine is quite old.

I have the first edition of the Cometa its still going and i have not fixed any of the issues on it. I dont use it much its just not my sort of light.

I run a 18650 in mine and the disk that covers the LED is anodized and no insulation ring under it. I can see a few marks where the LED wires are rubbing but the anodizing is still in place.

The Brinyte/Odepro is years ahead of the Cometa in terms of build quality and design. Output is not that far behind the B158 does well it looks like a great modding light. I will mod mine soon maybe even today if i get a chance.

The Cometa does under perform to what the specs say at least mine does. I still have not bought a flashlight by said company or reviewed a light by them this really made me angry what they did i have sworn of them! I am a brand loyal person if they do right by me. I do not so much blame the organizers its more the manufacturer cutting corners.

I never bothered with the refund because mine worked even if it was a flop light plus to much negativity in the threads relating to the Cometa. We all got out okay i guess its a lesson learn about say company and how much they really think we are worth as customers!

I got 3 Cometa”s.
One was DOA & had a badly damaged lens.
One turned on in Turbo & would not change modes, just worked in Turbo & had a damaged lens.
One worked but had a badly damaged lens & air bubbles & bits of dirt in the lens glass itself.
All had extremely loose zoom threads, no insulating disc & thinner LED wires than expected.
The one that was stuck in high turned out to have a short.
I measured the 2 that worked at around 980 lumens in Turbo.
I made insulating discs myself from some thin plastic sheet I had, replaced the 24 AWG led wires for 20 AWG ones (which is what we were expecting), did spring bypasses with 16 AWG silicon wire, replaced the lenses with Jaxman Z1 lenses & replaced the non fitting lens O rings with one that actually fitted & put O rings in the fins to stop the extremely loose zooming threads from rattling & changing zoom position on their own.
This resulted in 2 lights that worked OK, had a better beam & tint & increased the lumens by about 300 to just under the advertised 1,300.
The DOA light is still sat in a drawer not working.
I was pretty unhappy at the time with the Cometa fiasco as it was my first group buy & the light was not what I was led to believe it would be & Banggood & their rep Neal were terrible to deal with.
Looking back now it taught me a lot about the actual workings of a light (prior to this I had really just put cells in a light & the whole reason for buying the Cometa”s was to get an already modded light rather than modding one myself) & it did make me do my first mods so some good came of it as I now have a better understanding & am not afraid to dis-assemble lights to repair or mod them, should I want to.
However I certainly wouldn”t have chosen to be in the position I was put in by choice.
As it was during the Cometa problems Teacher bought me a Jaxman Z1 XHP50 (the 2 x 26650 cell version) which IMO is the light I should have bought in the first place (at the time I had not really heard of Jaxman).
A far superior light in all respects, build quality, output, run time, beam & tint.
It is my “go to” light & has performed flawlessly since arriving.
I must say that with all the problems there were with the Cometa & the bad press surrounding it that I am surprised that Banggood are marketing it again & I would imagine that the lights are exactly the same ones we received a year ago & have just been sat in a warehouse somewhere so will still have the exact same problems.
I certainly would not buy one again knowing what I know about them & knowing what needs to be done to them, IMO, to make them right & would choose a different light as again IMO it is a modding project & there are better lights out there to do that to.
Just all my opinion of course & ramble over.

An advantage the Z1 has over Conera and Brinyte is broader flood, in a nice tint and even at that. Zoomies are not all about the little beam zoomed in but nice hotspot-less flood as well IMHO

Well, there your numbers are in black & white… I certainly cannot argue with that based on my “memory”.

In fact, now I am questioning my “memory”……

When I have time I am gonna do some testing on mine and see what I end up with.

Just to be clear also, I was not saying the Cometa could not be a very good light… it can be.

I think the whole thing that got me going about it was:

  • It was not what was advertised & promised
………Jaxman Z1 host it was not. It was an unauthorized copy of lesser quality.
  • Some other specs compromised
    ………Wire gauge being one example
  • Problems right from the start
……….Many people were absolutely clueless on how to fix any of the “problems”
  • Banggoods initial response

But “to me”, the main thing that bothered me the most was the response from the person that introduced the project in the first place. When the “stuff hit the fan” this person quickly disappeared and was totally missing in action.

No response to emails, posts, PM’s……. no nothing after a very short while.
“To me” that is not or was not acceptable in any way.

If they totally screwed up by mistake, just come on here and say that. Just say whatever the problem was or what may have caused the fiasco.
Most people are very forgiving of honesty, myself included.

But to go “underground” and leave the “”project”” in the state it was……… ??? I’ll simply say that was not acceptable.

Yes it took me litteraly pages of text to get something as simple as “we don’t know if cyberscudo has a Z1 or OKed a sample not on par”
CS vanished and CPF Italia mods were nice to try to get a refund but never showed a sign of wanting to get to the cause of things.
It was a mess and for the Q8 educational for sure
I let it go, even now CS is active again, fact that CPF (Italia) let’s it go is a sign we simple BLFers have to keep out of CPF business and are a nice place to dump lots of reviews for more views thus more review samples.
Glad to be highly involved in this friendly yet critical place

Oh OT, have an emptied out Comets with two enpty pills, not going to do anything with it so if somebody wants it, just cover shipping and I send it to you.

Good advise. The cost of the light, whatever it was, wasn’t, and still isn’t worth getting worked up over. I posted my words and what was wrong with mine, and it’s forever etched in the innertubes. Lessons learned, hold no grudges, and forgotten.

Amen….

  • Forgive…… Absolutely
  • Hold no grudge……… Absolutely
  • Don’t get worked up……… Absolutely… nothing to be worked up about
  • Lessons learned……… Absolutely, good one’s too
  • Forget……… Not likely if “lessons were learned”.
  • Trust……… Not a ‘Houdini’ that disappeared under fire.

    Ymmv

Can’t argue with that.

Cyberescudo came back a couple of months ago very active on CPFItalia, I being part of Staff I once again asked CS to explain the whole situation, he replied that he should not apologize to anyone, who has always respected all the questions (Totally false)
I asked ADMIN CPFITALIA to ban CS for damaging community BLF + CPFITALIA, damaged the name of a forum and escaped like a rabbit.
Admin CPFIT did not want to banner cyberescudo. Absurd!
So I and other Staff members, to leave CPFIT!

Thank you for the info ‘antoninodattola’. :+1:

As far as I am concerned, the “reply” CS gave you just goes to prove he is a worm; which many of us already suspected &/or knew.

I don’t blame you all for leaving CPFIT either, sounds like a smart move. :+1:

Take care & cheers…… :beer::slight_smile:

Edit: I find it almost humorous that some “”person”” would mark my post RUDE.

Wow dramatic stuff man!
Thanks for the update.
Now to deal with my itching fingers so I won’t reply to CS reviews with a question why time for review yet not to explain things on BLF…
My poor itching fingers for I restrained them so nicely with the many many reviews Budda was/is posting

Appreciated antoninodattola, you know you are very welcome here!

Hi, some of you remember me about the help in a refund for the Cometa last year with Banggood, after the big “disaster” created by Cyberscudo.

I was in the Staff of CPFItalia 4 month ago. I decided by myself to leave from the Staff, due to the big differences in how to administrate a forum with the other Admin.

After tons of proposals and debated discussions about ban some users that repeatedly didn’t respect the rules, others who had behavior on the edge of education with the Staff and other users, and so many other reasons (one of the most important the decision to not ban Cybrscudo and the ban of a Moderator).
So i decided to leave from the Staff and don’t have nothing to do with CPFITalia no more, like other Staff members that left for the same reasons.

Glad to be part of your community.

:+1: good to hear!

Yep, sure do remember you ‘wonwuster’…… glad to have you here. :+1: … .

Hi wonwuster & welcome to BLF :+1:

1 Thank

Just to clarify, I am the moderator banned on CPFITALIA.

Me, i have one, still working fine.
Budda, I know you from CPF

+1, welcome
