H17F - programmable driver with full thermal regulation

Does this driver work with a forward clicky switch like the McClicky?

I’ve been interested in this driver and firmware. But never pulled the trigger at mtn. One thing I hate is turbo timers. Is there anyway to config the settings to disable the thermal regulation like you can in bistro.

Same reason I don’t use a6 drivers unless they are reflashed with no timer. I can live with a 3+ min timer. It just gets aggravating to keep bumping it up every 30-60 seconds. I use my lights on turbo mostly. Searching for critters outside. I don’t have to worry about unwanted turbo use so much. Would be great to disable to thermal sensor without doing anything on the driver.

This driver doesn’t have a turbo timer. It has thermal regulation. If you are on the fence about trying one of these drivers, just do it. This is the only driver I’ll build on unless specifically asked otherwise. Hands down the best 17mm driver out there if you ask me.

Edit: forgot to mention…you can turn the thermal regulation off if you want.

Thanks ya that’s what I meant. Like with bistro you can turn off the thermal regulation. On the outlay of the guppy firmware on rmms site I never say in the config where you can disable it. Its possible I missed it. But from what I remember it says something like tap 30 times to enter thermal and then tap or turn the light off when it reaches the max temp you want. But nothing on how to disable it.

Do you know if this is the same FEt that RMM uses on his 17mm single side fet drivers? Would would be the difference between the two drivers besides firmware?

Can’t comment on the other driver you’re talking about. Sorry

It works fine with a McClicky.

Regarding guppy FW, you can disable the stepdown by: after tapping 30 times to enter the menu, tapping before the light turns on in turbo. I remember this being in the description at some point, but it’s not now, so this is from my recollection.

Regarding the H17F FET, it is smaller than on normal FET drivers so has more resistance, like 30mOhms instead of 5-10mOhms.

I’m sure stepdown is disabled if you set the timer to less than 5 seconds in guppy.

Hi guys,

Been following this thread for sometime and have really enjoyed the Dr Jones FW’s

Recently did an upgrade to my Mac Tri-EDC (changed to XP-L HI) with this H17F driver and Lucidrv2. Now pushing out some crazy output.

In the past I used the masterfully crafted Hyperion driver and UI by Mattaus, who I’ve had the pleasure of working with in the past. He put together a great cheat sheet that I referred to endlessly during learning the UI.

Lucidrv2 is just as good, if not better, and I needed to make a cheat sheet for that too. So here it is.
LUCIDRV2 Cheat Sheet

Can someone tell me the difference between the H17F and the Bistro? Would like to order my light but unfamiliar with the Bistro.

Got a flashlight with this driver, it’s really wonderful !!

Is it possible to add another mode caused by 3 quick clicks?

I see one mode caused by 2 quick clicks, I put a turbo on it, and I would like another 3 click mode so that I can put a strobe on it. Otherwise, constantly have to think and choose when configuring - double-click on a turbo or strobe.

If I put the turbo on the last mode in ascending order, then if I suddenly need it urgently, and I am in firefly mode, then the extra seconds of sorting the mode can be very expensive.

Zombie thread revival alert.

Hard to believe this driver and its programing was created over 6 years ago. Way ahead of its time.

Still my favorite clicky light driver. Built another light with it today.

Thanks Dr.Jones, whatever you are up to now days.

Upvote if you’re still using this driver in 2022.

Yeah I love this driver. Is there anything out there that makes it obsolete?

1 Thank

Still rocks

Yup, still a good one!

It’s still my favorite edc firmware for 7 years now. I prefer 4 light levels, and most drivers are 3 or 5. I’m using it with a forward clicky, but would love to try the firmware in a reverse action light. hint hint Simon.

great driver, but is its possible the double tap to moonlight mode and not turbo mode?

yes

Just in case anyone still needs to find the information Dr. Jones had on his website, which is offline, it is cached on the Internet Archive:
